Nice night to go fishing on the pond

  • Family-run site with on-site fishing and a café
  • Steps from the Shropshire Union Canal
  • Adults-only and dog-friendly; canalside for dog walks
If you had thoughts on an ideal setting for a hol between England and Wales, Hadley Park might well be it. It's in the Shropshire countryside on the border with Wales, next to the Shropshire Union Canal, and a handsomely scenic walk from Whitchurch, Shropshire's oldest market town. Hadley Park is a family-owned and run site that's set up for adults only. It has a small pond where guests can fish – for a fee; a big sundeck overlooking the pond, and a fully licensed on-site café serving fresh local produce. You can also have your hair smartened up in the Hadley Park salon: just enquire when booking using the details in your booking confirmation email. Amenities include a launderette and a washing-up area; there's also a chemical disposal point, and a modern well-kept toilet and shower block with disabled facilities. The park is adults-only and welcomes well-behaved dogs. A service station with fast food and coffee outlet is 400 yards away.

Pool view primitive grass RV campsite

Liked: Very clean site. Adult only. Large flat motorhome pitches on grass. Numbered pitches. Water pipes next to grass area however bins only at shower block.
More roomy pitches for hard standing EHU and closer to facilities.
Large off lead doggy exercise field away from pitches, smaller exercise area right next to pitches (still tennis court sized). Short 20 min walk into town along canal. Walked for hours in the other direction along the canal, very peaceful and beautiful area. Everyone was friendly. Food in the cafe was tasty. Very little road noise in the evenings. Shower/toilet facilities spotless. Large area to tie dogs up outside toilet block.
Will visit again.

Disliked: Nothing

Pool view primitive grass RV campsite

Liked: Was lovely to pitch right by the lake. Nice and very clean shower block and the dog exercise field was great to be able to use. Stunning walk along the canal to Whitchurch and conveniently located very close to shops.

Disliked: Road was quite noisy but was quiet enough at night.

FHU cement/asphalt travel trailer campsite

Liked: Lovely campsite with friendly & helpful staff. The site is picturesque with a small lake, lots of wildlife and an enclosed dog field. The pitch and facilities were very well maintained, spotlessly clean & the under-floor heating most appreciated. On site there is a cafe serving breakfast & takeaways. The campsite also leads directly on to the Shropshire Union Canal with fabulous walks leading into Whitchurch town and local pubs.

Disliked: Unfortunately, the site runs alongside a very busy main road with continuous traffic and noise. It didn’t bother us at all, but felt it should be mentioned!

Pool view primitive grass RV campsite

Liked: Flat pitch, plenty of space with pleasant outlook. Easy access to canal for dog walks and pretty stroll into Whitchurch for pubs, bars, restaurants and all you’d need from a town. I stayed mid week and was very quiet. Near a busy road but I wasn’t disturbed by traffic noise. The shower and toilet facilities were immaculate and toasty warm. I didn’t need EHU but fresh water was available. Mobile signal for O2 was good.

Pool view primitive grass RV campsite

Liked: Easy access to the canal for walks into Whitchurch. Pitches were flat.

Disliked: Lack of information on arrival. Unsure where to pitch - directed to several different pitches - not very clear who was responsible. We booked a pool view pitch but this is misleading as there are no allocated pitches. We ended up in a pitch without a view of the pool and close to the road which was very noisy. This was not the peaceful weekend we were expecting. Gates were left open all weekend so there were concerns for security.

Local attractions

Staying close to home from Hadley Park, the old Shropshire town of Whitchurch is less than a mile away, and the walks of the Sandstone Trail as well as the hacks of the Bishop Bennet Way are easily accessible via the Shropshire and Union Canal on site. Elsewhere, several famed Shropshire and Cheshire sights are within 20 miles of the park, like Chester Cathedral and the city's Roman ruins and amphitheatre; Chester Zoo and Chester Racecourse; the fab follies of Hawkestone Park, and the llamas, alpacas and 50 acres of greenery of Cholmondeley Castle Gardens. Nearby Shrewsbury is famed for its annual flower show and for its Darwin Trail commemorating the life and work of evolution dude Charles Darwin who was born in the town. More modernly, a good range of plays are held at the new Severn Theatre and several riverside pubs and restaurants are around at which to while the night away. The bars, cafés and independent shops of the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Llangollen are within driving distance: other top town picks are a picnic in Riverside Park, a stroll along Victoria Promenade, and a steam straight ahead on the Llangollen Railway.
