If you had thoughts on an ideal setting for a hol between England and Wales, Hadley Park might well be it. It's in the Shropshire countryside on the border with Wales, next to the Shropshire Union Canal, and a handsomely scenic walk from Whitchurch, Shropshire's oldest market town. Hadley Park is a family-owned and run site that's set up for adults only. It has a small pond where guests can fish – for free; a big sundeck overlooking the pond, and a fully licensed on-site café serving fresh local produce. You can also have your hair smartened up in the Hadley Park salon: just enquire when booking using the details in your booking confirmation email. Amenities include a launderette and a washing-up area; there's also a chemical disposal point, and a modern well-kept toilet and shower block with disabled facilities. The park is adults-only and welcomes well-behaved dogs. A service station with fast food and coffee outlet is 400 yards away.

Fully-serviced hardstanding touring pitch

Liked A lovely site, clean and tidy. Ablutions block was spacious and plenty of hot water, nice touch with music being piped through, allowing you to shower in a little more comfort. Alfresco cafe 2 minutes walk away from the site which produced a great fresh breakfast, also allows you to take your little fury friends in. The site is situated along the canal, which gives you a great walk into Whitchurch.

Liked Spacious pitches, parked where we liked as off-grid. Site was well thought out with a cafe and various events signposted, ie dog agility course, fishing and cross country (although none of these events were taking place whilst we stayed, except fishing). The site was well presented and clean. The toilets/showers area were lovely and clean and pleasant to use.

Disliked Nothing really! The pool area for off-grid camping is further away than I'd thought as when I sat in a chair, outside my campervan I couldn't see much, no pool (lake) or wildlife. The road noise could be heard but not enough to spoil my stay.

The Kite camping pod

Liked Fantastic reception. The site was pristine. Even the toilet block was to a standard expected in a restaurant. Beautiful peaceful seating area at the lake side allowed me to really switch off.

Disliked Nothing. The site and owners are genuine gems.

Staying close to home from Hadley Park, the old Shropshire town of Whitchurch is less than a mile away, and the walks of the Sandstone Trail as well as the hacks of the Bishop Bennet Way are easily accessible via the Shropshire and Union Canal on site. Elsewhere, several famed Shropshire and Cheshire sights are within 20 miles of the park, like Chester Cathedral and the city's Roman ruins and amphitheatre; Chester Zoo and Chester Racecourse; the fab follies of Hawkestone Park, and the llamas, alpacas and 50 acres of greenery of Cholmondeley Castle Gardens. Nearby Shrewsbury is famed for its annual flower show and for its Darwin Trail commemorating the life and work of evolution dude Charles Darwin who was born in the town. More modernly, a good range of plays are held at the new Severn Theatre and several riverside pubs and restaurants are around at which to while the night away.
