General

  • Peaceful Shropshire farm park with views of Lodge Hill and The Wrekin
  • A 15-minute drive to Church Stretton; 25 to Shrewsbury
  • On-site half-acre fishing lake; fresh eggs available

Get set for proper peace and quiet in Shropshire at this fab farm park with views over Lodge Hill and The Wrekin.

The Shepherd's Loft is a pretty Shropshire park on a traditional family-run farm in the tiny village of Frodesley. With easy access from the road, dark night skies for stargazing and freshly-laid eggs for sale at the top of the drive, it's a place where you can get back to life's simple pleasures and explore the very best of the Shropshire countryside.

Guests here can look forward to good on-site facilities, including well-maintained toilets, showers and a chemical disposal point. Handily, The Shepherd's Loft is also a five-minute drive from a local farm shop on the A49, while those searching for a supermarket will find Shrewsbury (25 minutes’ drive) has plenty to offer in that department.

How to fill your days? Bring a rod to try the fishing pond on site, take a two-hour circular walk from the site or set off for more hikes in the Shropshire Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. For culinary treats, you might also like to head to the foodie town of Ludlow (35 minutes).

Peace and quiet on a simple site with wonderful views. Watching the hills rising from the early morning mists was absolutely stunning.
The loo and shower room was clean and well maintained and the owners came over to be sure we were settling in alright.
    Go again…..yes.

What a lovely wee site. Small(ish) field with hookups round two sides (no option for no hookup) and a centre area with picnic tables. Surrounded by farm land and a nice dark sky so quiet. It is by a road but hardly any cars pass by overnight as it’s well out of the way. Small toilet block (one loo and one shower in same area) which was spotless. Fresh jam and eggs available and the owners were efficient and friendly.

A small site which is rural and peaceful and the hosts were very welcoming and helpful. It's a working farm so, there are early morning sounds of cockerels and farm machinery but these didn't bother us. They sell jams and free-range eggs on site too. There are also some lovely walks in the surrounding area and it's a short drive, within 10 minutes, to the Pound Inn, in Leebotwood which serves great food. There are about 8 or 9 pitches which are hard standing and reasonably level. There is a combined toilet and shower pod which was kept nice and clean. The site was half full when we stayed so the fact there was only one toilet wasn't a problem.

    Disliked:

The shower cubicle was a little too small and the door snapped shut on you. Some of our group chose not to use it as they couldn't fit in it.

As a bonus we got homemade raspberry jam and fresh very free range eggs (chickens were coming to inspect the pitches). If we will be back in Shropshire I'll book there again.

Great location, beautiful Shepherds Hut in remote location, separate shower/toilet hut, plenty of hot water. Loved the log burner and very well equipped . Super clean & Great host …topped ice up and anything we asked.

    Disliked:

Only downside is it is a working farm so you will be woken up v early by the tractor feeding the sheep & cows.

Really good website with all the information you could possibly need. Really peaceful site with lovely views. Welcome from owners on arrival. Pitches were all really flat so no levellers needed. Shower facility with constant hot water. A nice touch was the help yourself box with locally made home made jams, honey and free range eggs with honesty box. Will definitely return.

Local attractions

Once you’ve warmed up on the local footpaths, set off for longer strolls in the Shropshire Hills, perhaps starting from the walkers’ mecca Church Stretton (15 minutes’ drive) at the foot of the Long Mynd. Caer Caradoc (10 minutes) and the Wrekin (half an hour) are close by if you’d rather tackle a mountain or two. Quad biking, horse riding and River Severn canoe trips are all possible too if you don’t mind a drive of 45 minutes or so.

For a bit of local history, start with Acton Burnell Castle (five minutes), the seat of the first Parliament in 1283, then move on to Wroxeter (15 minutes) to explore the Roman City and then take a tour and tasting at the vineyard next door. You could also embark on a Charles Darwin-themed tour of Shrewsbury (25 minutes).

Ironbridge (25 minutes) is another fine place for a glimpse into the past, as is the lovely National Trust estate Attingham Park (20 minutes). Or try the Telford Steam Railway (25 minutes) for a special day out.

Must see

  • Much Wenlock Priory (6.5 miles)
  • Enginuity (9.3 miles)
  • Ironbridge Gorge Museums (9.3 miles)
