The Shepherd's Loft is a pretty Shropshire park on a traditional family-run farm in the tiny village of Frodesley. With easy access from the road, dark night skies for stargazing and freshly-laid eggs for sale at the top of the drive, it's a place where you can get back to life's simple pleasures and explore the very best of the Shropshire countryside. Guests here can look forward to good on-site facilities, including well-maintained toilets, showers and a chemical disposal point. Handily, The Shepherd's Loft is also a five-minute drive from a local farm shop on the A49, while those searching for a supermarket will find Shrewsbury (25 minutes’ drive) has plenty to offer in that department. How to fill your days? Bring a rod to try the fishing pond on site, take a two-hour circular walk from the site or set off for more hikes in the Shropshire Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. For culinary treats, you might also like to head to the foodie town of Ludlow (35 minutes).

This little caravan park's got peace, quiet and country views. Flat, roomy spots with power and water. Top blokes run it, it's clean and good value. Basic loo/shower, a bit of a wait sometimes, but most reckon it's fine. Great for a chill or a stopover. You can get fresh eggs and goodies. Minor hose and shower temp hiccups being sorted.

Liked The site is a wonderful, secluded getaway that offers a truly quiet and intimate atmosphere away from the crowds. One of the standout features was the local farm animals, including the donkeys and chickens, which wandered right up to the site and provided great entertainment for our daughter. It is a charming, peaceful spot for anyone looking for a small, out-of-the-way retreat in the heart of the countryside.

Disliked The entrance would benefit from much clearer signage, as it is easy to miss and results in some difficult maneuvering in the narrow surrounding lanes. Additionally, the infrastructure feels quite limited with only a single toilet and shower unit available for guests. The washing-up facilities could also be improved by the addition of warm water, as the current setup is a bit too basic for a fully comfortable stay.

Disliked Only 1 shower and toilet for the whole site and both together so if shower occupied, meant waiting for bathroom, not ideal with young children
Shower was small and not very warm
No hot water available in the washing up area

Liked Everything.. Excellent campsite that has electric and water tap on every hard standing pitch. Pitches are flat and well spaced apart. Good views and convenient for visting National Trust properties or those that like lazing around or walking trails etc. The toilet block was extremely clean with built in shower. Usual outside washing facility ertc. Their fresh laid hen and duck eggs are also available with an honesty box to pay for them. Can't fault anything.. suited our needs.

Local attractions

Once you’ve warmed up on the local footpaths, set off for longer strolls in the Shropshire Hills, perhaps starting from the walkers’ mecca Church Stretton (15 minutes’ drive) at the foot of the Long Mynd. Caer Caradoc (10 minutes) and the Wrekin (half an hour) are close by if you’d rather tackle a mountain or two. Quad biking, horse riding and River Severn canoe trips are all possible too if you don’t mind a drive of 45 minutes or so. ​For a bit of local history, start with Acton Burnell Castle (five minutes), the seat of the first Parliament in 1283, then move on to Wroxeter (15 minutes) to explore the Roman City and then take a tour and tasting at the vineyard next door. You could also embark on a Charles Darwin-themed tour of Shrewsbury (25 minutes). Ironbridge (25 minutes) is another fine place for a glimpse into the past, as is the lovely National Trust estate Attingham Park (20 minutes). Or try the Telford Steam Railway (25 minutes) for a special day out.
