  • Peaceful Shropshire farm park with views of Lodge Hill and The Wrekin
  • A 15-minute drive to Church Stretton; 25 to Shrewsbury
  • On-site half-acre fishing lake; fresh eggs available
Get set for proper peace and quiet in Shropshire at this fab farm park with views over Lodge Hill and The Wrekin. The Shepherd's Loft is a pretty Shropshire park on a traditional family-run farm in the tiny village of Frodesley. With easy access from the road, dark night skies for stargazing and freshly-laid eggs for sale at the top of the drive, it's a place where you can get back to life's simple pleasures and explore the very best of the Shropshire countryside. Guests here can look forward to good on-site facilities, including well-maintained toilets, showers and a chemical disposal point. Handily, The Shepherd's Loft is also a five-minute drive from a local farm shop on the A49, while those searching for a supermarket will find Shrewsbury (25 minutes’ drive) has plenty to offer in that department. How to fill your days? Bring a rod to try the fishing pond on site, take a two-hour circular walk from the site or set off for more hikes in the Shropshire Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. For culinary treats, you might also like to head to the foodie town of Ludlow (35 minutes).

Liked: Friendliness of welcome and helpfulness of staff. Small site for about 8 pitches so nice and quiet. Close to beautiful Shrewsbury and also went to Oswestry Metal Works exhibition.

Disliked: Not particularly picturesque, but I think that was reflected in the price and good as just a base. One unisex combined toilet and shower. Therefore difficult to get in when busy. Would be hugely improved if another block was added. I also, as a female, don’t like using a toilet men have aimed inaccurately on!

Liked: A great farm location. The amenities were small but clean. Lovely views of the countryside. The staff welcome us with a smile. If you want a remote country stop over, this is the site!

Disliked: The hard standing was made of pink hogging stones, which unfortunately there had been lots of rain the day before making the pink dust walk everywhere. Hopefully given time the hogging would clean off. Having said this the site would be lovely in dry sunny weather.

Liked: Friendly owners who met us on our arrival. Lovely location with great views. Honest shop on site selling eggs, jams, honey at reasonable price. Owners allowed us to stay later on day of departure so we could enjoy the stay even more.

Disliked: Only one toilet buy we were aware of this and didn't cause us any problems because site was quiet.

Liked: Peace and quiet on a simple site with wonderful views. Watching the hills rising from the early morning mists was absolutely stunning. The loo and shower room was clean and well maintained and the owners came over to be sure we were settling in alright. Go again…..yes.

Liked: A nice, small site in a quiet location. When I messaged the site owner about an issue at some point during my stay I got a very quick response.

Disliked: The facilities were extremely basic - one mobile hut with a toilet and shower in. The shower cubicle was pretty poor and, because the room was freezing, it added to the unpleasantness of the experience. There was an electric hot water thing over the sink but I couldn't get it to work. There was a sink for "washing food" or washing up outside, but there was no cover so you're screwed if it's raining, and there was no hot water supply so was essentially useless. Overall, this could be a nice site to stay if you're self-sufficient, but I certainly won't be staying again.

Liked: A nice quiet site: only a few pitches, all a good size, nicely gravelled and level, with a small cabin for simple but functional (and clean!) facilities. Thank you for a very pleasant stay

Local attractions

Once you’ve warmed up on the local footpaths, set off for longer strolls in the Shropshire Hills, perhaps starting from the walkers’ mecca Church Stretton (15 minutes’ drive) at the foot of the Long Mynd. Caer Caradoc (10 minutes) and the Wrekin (half an hour) are close by if you’d rather tackle a mountain or two. Quad biking, horse riding and River Severn canoe trips are all possible too if you don’t mind a drive of 45 minutes or so. For a bit of local history, start with Acton Burnell Castle (five minutes), the seat of the first Parliament in 1283, then move on to Wroxeter (15 minutes) to explore the Roman City and then take a tour and tasting at the vineyard next door. You could also embark on a Charles Darwin-themed tour of Shrewsbury (25 minutes). Ironbridge (25 minutes) is another fine place for a glimpse into the past, as is the lovely National Trust estate Attingham Park (20 minutes). Or try the Telford Steam Railway (25 minutes) for a special day out.
