  • Adults-only campsite at a Shropshire inn on the edge of Bridgnorth
  • Severn Valley Railway five minutes’ drive; Ironbridge Gorge 25 minutes
  • Hardstanding pitches with electricity; pub food and real ale on site
When it’s time to sneak off for an adults-only Shropshire break, make a dash for the family-owned tourer pitches behind 16th-century Halfway House Inn on the outskirts of Bridgnorth, Shropshire. Suitable for most sizes of motorhome, this small caravan park has neatly landscaped pitches on hardstanding, all with electrical hook-ups and their own direct water supply (but none with a connection for toilet waste). With 14 courses under an hour’s drive and numerous fishing spots on the River Severn, Halfway House Inn makes a great base for keen golfers and anglers – and if you’re a real ale lover, all you need to do is nip into the pub for a pint of your favourite brew (the bar is open daily). If you’re intent on self-catering, you can rustle up barbecue suppers on site; although alternatively the pub serves tasty British classics from Thursday to Monday. Facilities-wise, the small on-site toilet block has separate facilities for men and women – all with bags of hot water in the showers – and the loos in the pub are open 24/7 during the main holiday months. There’s also a dedicated washing-up area so you can keep on top of the chores.

What customers say

This adult-only campsite, located behind a traditional 16th-century pub, offers a welcoming atmosphere with friendly staff and good-sized, well-maintained pitches, many with water and electric hook-ups. Visitors frequently praise the excellent food and cosy ambience of the attached pub. While generally clean, some reviews note limited or basic toilet and shower facilities, especially when busy. Noise from nearby kennelled hounds was a recurring issue for some. Proximity to Bridgnorth is a plus.

Electric grass and gravel touring pitch

Liked The pub, the food, the location, warm welcome from the staff. Good faculties. The use of the field for a dog walk really helpful.

Disliked The dog kennel near to the site. Dogs barking and howling most of the night into the early hours. Unfortunately did not get much sleep. Such a shame as everything else was so good.

Electric grass and gravel touring pitch

Liked Easy to book the site clean and peaceful (except for the dogs sometimes but didn't bother us).
The beer and food was good.
The only thing that could make it better is to do breakfast and a Sunday carvery as you already have the market for it with the campsite.
The visit was great and staff very helpful a Big THANKYOU

Electric grass and gravel touring pitch

Liked Small friendly site, smallish pitches some with water - lovely pub with great food
Handy for Bridgenorth, 35 mins from Black Country Museum and Ironbridge.

Disliked There are stables and a hunt yard next door, so you do hear the dogs barking, but didn't really bother us.

From the manager: Hy Lynne

Thank you so much for your lovely review.

We’re delighted to hear you enjoyed the friendly atmosphere of our site, the pub food, and our convenient location for exploring Bridgnorth, the Black Country Museum, and Ironbridge.

We are blessed to be in the beautiful Shropshire countryside, though of course this does bring with it the sounds of the country. We appreciate you noting the stables and hunt yard nearby — the dogs are part of that setting, and while they can occasionally be heard, we’re pleased to know it didn’t affect your stay.

Hope to see you again very soon

Electric grass and gravel touring pitch

Liked Good location, tidy, showers good loads of hot water, this site is not to everyone’s taste… it’s small & cramped when full.. we struggled with twin axle to put it on the pitch… Great mid week when it’s emptyish….

Disliked Dogs on farm next door barked & howled at a LOT….the entrance to needs better signage…. Don’t go through car park !!!!!…& car OR awning with van at pitch…£30 Monday to Thursday £35 weekends

From the manager: Hi

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback following your stay with us. We’re pleased to hear you enjoyed our location, tidy facilities, and the plentiful hot water in the showers.

We do appreciate your comments about the size of the site. Being a smaller, more rustic campsite does mean things can feel a little tighter when we are full. You didn’t mention when booking that you would be bringing a twin-axle caravan, which can understandably make pitching more challenging on our site.

Your point on signage is also noted — we are currently reviewing how best to improve this to make arrivals clearer and easier.

Regarding the neighbouring farm dogs, we are sorry for any disturbance this may have caused. While this is unfortunately outside of our control, we will keep monitoring the situation and raise concerns where possible.

Cheers Matt & Team

Electric grass and gravel touring pitch

Liked Walkable up the country road into fabulous Bridgnorth, around 45 mins. Connected to one of those quirky, historical country pubs, with friendly locals. The campsite is best described as rustic and in need of attention. Spacing is cramped on some pitches, and we had a tent pitched around 2 metres from our caravan.

Disliked Barking dogs off-site at all hours (not the campsites fault). Toilet/ shower block grubby.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Hi Brian

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We’re pleased to hear you enjoyed the walk into Bridgnorth and the welcoming atmosphere of our historic pub — we’re very lucky to have such a lovely local community.

We appreciate your comments about the campsite. Our pitch spacing is in line with the requirements set out by Shropshire Council, but we’ll certainly keep looking for ways to make the layout feel more comfortable for guests. We also take on board your thoughts about the toilet and shower block, and I will pass your feedback on to the housekeeping team

While the barking dogs from neighbouring properties are unfortunately beyond our control, we’re sorry they disturbed your stay. We will pass your feedback on to the owners of the kennels

Cheers Matt & Team

Liked Very nice and quiet touring camping, great public house,
Lovely walk into Bridgenorth about 40 minutes caught the bus part way back
.

Disliked Hate loath Unisex toilets and shower facilities breeding ground for perverts. someone walked in on my wife while she was having a private wash (and that says it all)
No Wi-Fi

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Hi Charles

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback following your recent stay with us.

We’re really pleased to hear you enjoyed the peaceful setting of our touring campsite, the character of our pub, and the lovely walk into Bridgnorth.
\
We are, however, very sorry to read about your concerns regarding our facilities. While many guests appreciate the practicality of our unisex washrooms, we completely understand that this isn’t to everyone’s preference. Please be assured that all of our toilet and shower cubicles are fitted with locks for guest privacy, and we take comfort and safety very seriously. We will also be reviewing the points you’ve raised to ensure that all guests feel secure and respected at all times.

Regarding Wi-Fi, we acknowledge this is something many travellers now do expect and it is something we are currently looking into improving for our visitors. We do offer free Wi-Fi in our pub and surrounding beer garden but struggle to get a signal to the actual campsite. Openreach are working in this area to get super fibre broadband to our business - so fingers crossed

Cheers Matt

Local attractions

Start your local explorations in Bridgnorth (five minutes’ drive) on the River Severn. This pretty town was once a busy port, and today has a timber-framed Town Hall dominating the lively market square, a Victorian funicular that joins upper and lower towns, and an 11th-century castle with a tower that has a bigger lean than anything Pisa can offer. Shropshire’s industrial heritage can be seen at Daniels Mill (five minutes), set in a wooded valley with its vast restored waterwheel; there are tours to see the milling process. The viaduct close by carries the steam-driven Severn Valley Railway, which you can join at the station on the outskirts of Bridgnorth (five minutes). Other heritage spots include the restored furnaces and pottery kilns at Ironbridge Gorge Museum (25 minutes), or the recreated streets, steam engines and period shops at the Black Country Living Museum (40 minutes). When all you want is to spend time in nature, there are several fisheries and golf courses within 20 minutes’ drive of the site. Alternatively, head for the Shropshire Hills National Landscape (20 minutes), where you can join Offa’s Dyke Path or climb to the Iron Age hillfort at the top of The Wrekin landmark hill.
