  • Adults-only campsite at a Shropshire inn on the edge of Bridgnorth
  • Severn Valley Railway five minutes’ drive; Ironbridge Gorge 25 minutes
  • Hardstanding pitches with electricity; pub food and real ale on site
When it’s time to sneak off for an adults-only Shropshire break, make a dash for the family-owned tourer pitches behind 16th-century Halfway House Inn on the outskirts of Bridgnorth, Shropshire. Suitable for most sizes of motorhome, this small caravan park has neatly landscaped pitches on hardstanding, all with electrical hook-ups and their own direct water supply (but none with a connection for toilet waste). With 14 courses under an hour’s drive and numerous fishing spots on the River Severn, Halfway House Inn makes a great base for keen golfers and anglers – and if you’re a real ale lover, all you need to do is nip into the pub for a pint of your favourite brew (the bar is open daily). If you’re intent on self-catering, you can rustle up barbecue suppers on site; although alternatively the pub serves tasty British classics from Thursday to Monday. Facilities-wise, the small on-site toilet block has separate facilities for men and women – all with bags of hot water in the showers – and the loos in the pub are open 24/7 during the main holiday months. There’s also a dedicated washing-up area so you can keep on top of the chores.

What customers say

This adult-only campsite, located near Bridgnorth, offers level pitches with water and electric hook-ups. Guests frequently praise the friendly staff and the attached 16th-century pub, renowned for its excellent home-cooked food and welcoming atmosphere. While the campsite is generally clean and well-maintained, the shower and toilet facilities, though functional, are sometimes described as basic or in need of updating. A recurring point of feedback is the noise from nearby kennels, particularly at night. Overall, visitors highlight the peaceful setting, convenient location, and the pub as major draws, with many expressing a desire to return.

Liked Shower and bathroom were really clean. We all had our own separate taps on our plots with our number. Everyone very friendly.

Disliked Did not get much sleep at night got woke up for five times with dogs, howling and barking at the farm Next Door

From the manager: Hi Tracy,

Thank you for taking the time to leave us your review and for your kind comments about the cleanliness of our shower and bathroom facilities. We're also pleased to hear that you liked having your own dedicated water tap on your pitch and found everyone friendly.

We're very sorry that the noise from the dogs at the farm next door disturbed your sleep. We completely understand how frustrating it must have been to be woken several times during the night. Unfortunately, the dogs are on a separate property and the noise is outside of our control, but we do appreciate you bringing it to our attention.

Thank you again for staying with us, Tracy, and for your feedback. We're pleased you found the site clean and enjoyed your stay overall, and we hope we can welcome you back again in the future.

Electric grass and gravel touring pitch

Liked Easy access to the site, clear instructions on arrival. Site was clean and tidy with good size pitches. Water and electricity available on all pitches. Toilet facilities were not too far away and very clean. Level ground. Food available in the old traditional pub which was good.

Disliked The toilet and shower facilities were laid out in such away that there was potentially little privacy when getting washed and changed. The area was very small and would only accommodate one person at a time.
The dogs whining in the pound next door was quite distressing at times and very loud. Totally appreciate that it is not the campsites fault and out of their control, but still a factor when staying.

From the manager: Hi Stephanie,

Thank you for taking the time to leave us such a detailed review and for giving us a 10/10.

We're really pleased you found the site clean and tidy, the pitches spacious and level, and the arrival process straightforward. It's also great to hear that you enjoyed a meal in our traditional pub.

We were a little surprised by your comments regarding privacy in the toilet and shower facilities, as all of our individual toilet and shower cubicles have locks on the doors to provide privacy. However, we appreciate your feedback and will certainly take your comments on board.

We're also sorry that the dogs next door disturbed you during your stay. As you mentioned, unfortunately this is outside of our control, but we completely understand that the noise can be upsetting when you're trying to relax.

Thank you again for choosing to stay with us, Stephanie. We hope to welcome you back to the Halfway House Inn again in the future.

Liked Proximity to pub, although if the beer garden was full it could be noisy. Food in the pub was very good and the staff very helpful and friendly. The site wasn’t too busy when we stayed but if it was full the single ladies toilet and shower could mean a wait. Facilities were fine and very clean. Short drive to Bridgnorth, preset town with a busy market on Saturdays. Much Wenlock a pretty village about 15/ 20 mins drive away worth a visit. WiFi good in the Pub, phone signal ok but not fast

From the manager: Hi,

Thank you for taking the time to leave such a detailed review following your stay with us. We’re really pleased to hear you enjoyed the convenience of having the pub on site, the food, and the friendly and helpful service from our team.

It’s also great to hear you found the facilities clean and enjoyed exploring the local area, including Bridgnorth and Much Wenlock. We’re lucky to have so many lovely places to visit right on our doorstep.

We appreciate your comments regarding the toilet and shower facilities and understand that they can become busier when the site is full. We’ll certainly keep your feedback in mind.

As for the beer garden, we are a working 16th Century Inn, so when the weather is good and the beer garden is busy, there can naturally be some atmosphere and noise — particularly as many of our camping guests enjoy being able to relax and have a drink just a few steps from their pitch! 🍺😊

Thank you again for choosing to stay with us, and we hope to welcome you back to the Halfway House Inn in the future.

Local attractions

Start your local explorations in Bridgnorth (five minutes’ drive) on the River Severn. This pretty town was once a busy port, and today has a timber-framed Town Hall dominating the lively market square, a Victorian funicular that joins upper and lower towns, and an 11th-century castle with a tower that has a bigger lean than anything Pisa can offer. Shropshire’s industrial heritage can be seen at Daniels Mill (five minutes), set in a wooded valley with its vast restored waterwheel; there are tours to see the milling process. The viaduct close by carries the steam-driven Severn Valley Railway, which you can join at the station on the outskirts of Bridgnorth (five minutes). Other heritage spots include the restored furnaces and pottery kilns at Ironbridge Gorge Museum (25 minutes), or the recreated streets, steam engines and period shops at the Black Country Living Museum (40 minutes). When all you want is to spend time in nature, there are several fisheries and golf courses within 20 minutes’ drive of the site. Alternatively, head for the Shropshire Hills National Landscape (20 minutes), where you can join Offa’s Dyke Path or climb to the Iron Age hillfort at the top of The Wrekin landmark hill.
