Lyndon Top is a well-kept touring park on the shores of Rutland Water, spread over a peaceful 112 acres and with stunning views out over the water. And while those views are indeed tiptop, there’s a fair amount more to see around the lake’s shores so it’s handy that you can set straight out from the site for walks or bike rides on the path that runs all the way around the edge (22 miles in total). On top of that, there’s plenty of choice for other outdoorsy activities, including fly fishing, birdwatching, golf, canoeing and windsurfing (along with boat cruises and lakeside dining if you’re after minimal activity). Think a barbecue at your pitch might be more your kind of thing? Top plan. Such things are allowed at Lyndon Top, and you can pick up whatever supplies you need in Oakham or Uppingham (both 10 minutes’ drive), or while out in Stamford (15 minutes). Back at base, it’s a peaceful setup that welcomes families, couples and solo campers (and dogs, if you’d like to bring them) to spacious pitches in a tree-lined field. It’s really not the place for a party of any sort, so the site doesn’t accept bookings from single-sex groups or other non-family groups.

Liked The Osprey field has fantastic views over Rutland water, great welcome at the gate to a friendly and relaxed site with loads of space and limited restrictions. The toilet and shower block is very new and high quality with a back to back design where one half is opened as and when demand is high. Easy to walk down to the path that runs to Normanton.
