Site

General

  • Peaceful site near lakes, a sailing club and the river Trent
  • A 20-minute drive from Newark or Lincoln city centre
  • Kids' play area and free wifi; a few minutes' walk from fishing lakes

Head to Nottingham Nature Lakes if you're a fan of all things aquatic: this well-maintained park is close to peaceful fishing lakes, a sailing club and riverside strolls along the Trent. Land-based activities are also on the cards – a golf club, nature reserve and three pubs can all be reached in a 10-minute drive or less. Several major roads are also nearby, making it a doddle to head out to nearby towns and cities like Newark and Lincoln.

Families are welcome to settle down on a patch of this 13-acre site – the park has a popular play area where the kids can get up to all their usual mischief in a safe and friendly environment. Well-behaved dogs are also welcome here (and there's plenty of scope for walkies along the peaceful lanes located directly opposite the site).

Nottingham Nature Lakes has also got lots of practical bases covered thanks to amenities like free wifi, a smart toilet and shower block (with disabled access), a washing-up area and picnic benches. The latter may very well come in handy if you have self-barbecued bites in the pipeline (you can drive 10 minutes down the road to the nearest farm shop if you need to stock up).

Toilets facilities, shower facilities, no member of the staff in reception at any moment, Is not a camping site is just a land for you add your tent but there is nothing else, around is a horrible forest walk Super dirty with animal poo everywhere, You need to drive around 20 min to see something decent like Lincoln catedral. We pay for electricity pitch and was not electricity at all the owner promise electricity to everyone and they didn’t have the capacity to provided.

Lovely site and nice nature walks. Shop only 5mins drive away. Owner was lovely when came to check we were okay when our car broke down.

    Disliked:

Toilet block wasn't cleaned and 1 of the toilets was blocked and toilet roll wasn't replenished.
Electric was weak as kept tripping.

From the manager...

I think every campsite gets a blocked toilet now and again but got it all sorted

was right next to a beautiful woodland and other lovely walks.

    Disliked:

    no recycling, just mixed bins.
there was only one shower and it was very smelly so did not use it.
bit too close to a main road so was a bit hard to sleep
there was a guard dog that was constantly barking early hours of the morning.
the children's play park turned out to be 3 swings, which weren't safe as there are too close together and the children kept bumping into each other.

Flat generous pitches and hookup. We had the whole place to ourselves

    Disliked:

Advertised as WiFi across site but the signal was so weak it wouldn’t let us join the network. Shame because this was one of the main reasons we booked to keep the kids happy in the evening. The toilet block is not the fabulous new facility advertised on the website. It IS like a storage container. The shower is built up from the floor which meant my head nearly touched the ceiling and I’m 5’3. The water overflows the tray onto the floor and floods. This makes the climb down precarious. Toilets are mixed with urinals opposite the cubicles. We were glad there was only us but social distancing means it’s one at a time anyway. I’ve never been to a site with no freezer so our food all went off, we couldn’t refreeze the ice packs. An electric coolbox is a must. It’s right next to a busy road but we were used to this by the second night. We left a day early but that was not due to the site it was because of the heat and the swarms of flying ants!

Local attractions

Sporty folk will find plenty to keep them busy around here – if you fancy having the run of a 100-acre lake, get in touch with the friendly local boating club (10 minutes’ walk) to sort lessons or freestyle sails. Joggers, cyclists, dog walkers and the like will find similar amounts of space (and peace and quiet) at Spalford Woods Nature Reserve (10 minutes' walk).

The nearby market town of Newark (20 minutes' drive), meanwhile, is a hive of local history – here you can stroll around high castle walls, delve into England's 17th-century past at the National Civil War Centre or learn about all things aeronautical just outside town at the Newark Air Museum (15 minutes). For more grand old buildings and narrow cobbled streets, head 20 minutes up the road to Lincoln.

Are the kids clamouring to be entertained? Sundown Adventureland (15 minutes), with its giant soft play area and Angry Birds zone, is a tried and tested hit with younger tots, while older teens may well prefer zapping each other at Frontline Combat Lasertag (15 minutes). Animal fans of all ages should set their sights on Messingham Zoo (40 minutes), where fuzzy, furry and spiky beasts abound.

Must see

  • Lincoln Castle (9.4 miles)
  • Lincoln Medieval Bishops' Palace (9.5 miles)
  • Lincoln Cathedral (9.5 miles)
