A sunny day on site

  • Spacious semi-rural site 10 minutes' drive from Mansfield
  • Less than half an hour's drive from Sherwood Forest and Clumber Park
  • Well-stocked carp fishing lake next to the site
A packing list for folk heading to Tall Trees Touring Park: comfy shoes, fishing kit, bus pass, kids, dogs (these last two only if you already have them – no need to acquire them specially). This family-friendly and dog-welcoming park is in a semi-rural spot a 10-minute drive from the centre of Mansfield, ticking holiday boxes for easy access to both urban amenities and fresh-air attractions. The comfy shoes and/or bus pass are useful things to have with you as there’s a bus stop just outside the park for forays into town, and lots of useful bits and bobs within walking distance (a family-friendly pub, fast food outlets, supermarket and indoor play centre among them). Those shoes may well also come in handy for lengthy rural rambles in the local area: around Sherwood Forest or Clumber Park, perhaps, or taking in the historic buildings of Hardwick Hall or Newstead Abbey. And the fishing kit? That’s for those who fancy heading to the lake just by the park for some quiet time gazing out over the Maun Valley Nature Reserve and (hopefully) catching some carp. Facilities on site include a playground to keep the kids amused (and/or tire them out), a small library, tourist information point and well-kept toilet block with accessible facilities and baby changing.

Electric optional grass pitch

Liked Helpful site manager. Clean warm toilet block. Clean washing up facilities. Respectfully other users of the site. Level pitches

Disliked The pitches are relatively small and not as private as we would prefer. The touring area is within a static site, okay for shorter stays but reminiscent of seaside holidays sites. However it is well run and well maintained. The showers are difficult to use as you have to hold them on with one hand and wash with the other

Liked When I booked this park, I didn't notice it was in the city, but I was pleasantly surprised.A small caravan park surrounded by private static caravans. The owners were very nice, and it was very clean.

Disliked We set up a small barbecue on the bricks. They told us to turn it off. Even though the sign said it was allowed. However, the toilets were code-operated, which was inconvenient for me, given my visual impairment.A 10-year-old child was bored and had to be warned by the owners. The caravan park is more for younger children.

From the manager: Hi Barbara, thank you for your review, on arrival everyone is given a set of site rules along with their booking card, it clearly states on those rules that we do not allow disposable BBQ'S, this is due to someone only having two small bricks underneath one and setting fire to the grass, they then threw the hot bbq into the bins and set them on fire, so they have not been allowed on site since.
You told us one of your party was disabled, if you had told us you were visually impaired, we could have given you the key for the family bathroom which does not have a keycode.
With regard to the 10 year old being told off, children are supposed to be supervised at all times and not left to wander off the campsite onto the very busy road for the residential homes, he was asked to return back onto site for his own safety.
I hope we have acceptably covered all the issues you raised and wish you happy camping for the future.

Liked Lovely quiet site clean and well cared for

Disliked Strict first night arrival time

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Hi Karen, thank you for your review, we can be lenient with arrival time if someone has a break down or are stuck in traffic due to an accident and they ring and let us know they will be late, however we do not have our evening meal until after the latest booking time and we have to draw the line somewhere so i hope you understand our reasoning for this.

Liked Loved the facilities, very clean and cosy. Little playground, lake on site close to hiking trails and shops.
Perfect for families

Disliked Only downside for this camping is the pitch space . Not big enough and very limited options.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Hi Andreea, thank you for your review, with regard the pitch size, you did have enough space for your campervan and an awning as well as some grass space both outside and to the front and back of your awning so i am baffled as to how big you would expect one pitch to be, at the time you were offered one of our temporary hard standing pitches, which are much bigger as they will eventually accommodate a holiday home but you declined as this was further away from the play area, so you did have another option available to you, at the time of your stay we did still have some pitches roped off as the ground was, and still is very soft, if we had put you on any of those pitches you would have without a doubt, sunk. We hope that this does not deter you from staying with us again and wish you happy camping for the future.
Kind regards

Local attractions

Take a spot at Tall Trees for all sorts of leisurely local walks: stride around Robin Hood’s old stomping ground, 450-acre Sherwood Forest, or take in one of the trails through the woods and around the lake at National Trust-owned Clumber Park (bike hire can be had here if you prefer to pedal). Both are less than half an hour’s drive from the park. Creswell Crags, 20 minutes’ drive away, is an enclosed limestone gorge and cave system that’s home to the UK’s only known Ice Age cave art. There’s a great museum here, and rock art cave tours can be had in the spring and summer months. If it’s historic buildings you’re after, head to 16th-century Hardwick Hall, or to medieval Newstead Abbey (home to a collection of objects belonging to former resident Lord Byron). Rufford Abbey Country Park is a good place for woodland walks around the abbey ruins.
