Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked Veyr pretty idyllic setting, with a fast flowing shallow river running through the site and mature trees providing shade and character. Very peaceful at the quiet time I visited. Would be great for fmailies with young kids playing in the stream etc Facilities are ok - not many showers which could be an issue if the site was busy and a lack of bins on site,

Disliked we were told to put a bit of old kingspan under our fire pit, which promptly caught fire and we had to drag it out. On the day of our arrival a member of staff was playing loud music in the tepee for no apparent reason and we had to ask them to turn it down

A peaceful, green stay with lots of outdoorsyness.

Electric grass tent pitch

Liked The surroundings, grounds and children’s play area over the water.
The BBQ provided for a small extra fee, the staff and the bar.

Disliked Facilities are the only thing that let the site down for us. Showers not draining, really hard to move around in the toilet/showers block. Floor was sopping wet all the time and I didn’t see anyone cleaning them whilst we were there over the weekend. Only two female showers for whole site.

Excellent site-staff need to enforce rules for child safety/more loos

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked The site and stream were absolutely beautiful.
Strict rules for guests to keep it safe for children.

Disliked On our visit there was one tent of adults near us. They had loud music and a Staffordshire Bull Terrier which was off lead a lot of the time. Nothing was done about this until the dog attacked a chicken in front of children. They were told by staff to remove the dog, which they did, however they then got friends round, started smoking cannabis and more loud music and shouting until 2am. Really spoilt the ambience and family nature of the site.

Also need more toilets 2 men’s, 2 female and 1 disabled was not enough for the busy weekend.

Lovely place go year after year, great when the bar opens too

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked Very nice campsite fantastic stream rounding through the middle of the site where kinds play all day plenty of electric hookups for your appliances showers and toilets as standard what you would expect. Nice campsite owners witch will answer any questions. Way off the main road so know need to worry about your kids.
I would personally recommend this site if you have children and you don't mind the noise that children make

Disliked I think the washing fertilitys could be updated

Electric grass tent pitch

Liked Great views, peaceful and calm environment. Pitching near the river is gorgeous. River is great for young children as this isn't deep.

Disliked Administration is poor, toilets, showers were filthy and kitchen was really dirty as well, with the sinks blocked.

The people at reception didn't offer much help. We rarely saw anyone there. Lots of rubbish on the ground right at the entrance of the campsite, as bins were full. And it seemed that they were more concerned about the supposed wedding they are going to have over the weekend than actually maintaining the facilities.

From the manager: Hi Pedro.
Thanks for your review!
The toilets and showers and washing up area were cleaned twice per day. We do have signs up stating to leave the toilets in the way you wish to find them, unfortunately our staff cannot be in the toilets cleaning them 4,5,6 times per day.
We do not have a wedding this weekend?
If you had a problem you should have come to speak to us.
Regards
The Old Vicarage Team

Electric grass tent pitch

Liked The brook onsite was truly brilliant for the children to play and splash around in. All the facilities were within a small
Area too, which really helped.just a short walk away is a lovely park with lots of activities for children.

Disliked The cleanliness of the toilets, and space within. These were cleaned at 11.00am, but owing to some grotty individuals leaving crap around the toilet bowel and seat, these need checking and cleaning more regularly. On arrival, reception clearly marked but no one was initially available, so a queue was forming. The room behind reception looked chaotic and a mess, which fitted in to the overall view and opinion that it’s a bit disorganised. The waste area was overflowing with bags and rubbish which doesn’t help the initial view upon arrival. We were told that the electricity supply can only handle small amounts, which made our electric grill redundant. Had we known in advance we would opted for a different site (granted we may have missed the small print). The cave bar was open, but initially no
One to serve, and again boxes and packages left on view which again makes the site appear disorganised.

Lovely break. Will be back - fingers crossed for some more facilities

Local attractions

The surrounding countryside has great places for walks and wildlife-spotting, with trails around the lakes and wetlands of Idle Valley Nature Reserve (15 minutes' drive) and lakes for fishing too. Then there's Sherwood Forest, 25 minutes away: some 450 acres of wildlife among ancient oak trees, alongside a wealth of biking and walking trails to take you through them. Adventure seekers can see it all from the treetops on ropes and wires at Go Ape, and the kids can clamber about at Robin Hood’s Hideout, an acclaimed natural play area. For family antics out of the forest, Sundown Adventure Park (20 minutes) has rides and themed playgrounds for the under-10s and families can also make tracks for Ferry Farm Country Park (45 minutes), to feed lambs, meet pigs and zoom about on go-karts and the adventure playground. An hour away and a major hub since Robin Hood's days, Nottingham still draws the crowds. Tour the castle and the caves, stop for a snifter in Ye Trip To Jerusalem (oldest pub in England, perhaps...), skate on ice at Motorpoint Arena and see what law and order meant in the Sheriff’s days at the National Justice Museum. For further historical wanderings, Creswell Crags presents an array of prehistoric caves in a cracking limestone gorge and Newark's castle, Air Museum and National Civil War Centre sum up the centuries very entertainingly, all around half an hour away.
