  • Peaceful site next to a 16th-century pub in Kirkby on Bain
  • 1.75-acre coarse fishing with carp, bream, rudd, roach and more
  • Three miles from Woodhall Spa and 21 from Lincoln
Fishing and fauna? Barn owls and kingfishers are among the residents you might encounter among the six acres of wildlife haven of Bainside House in Lincolnshire, with more feathered and furry critters easily spottable in the surrounding countryside via serene strolls along the waters of the Bain. Fish should be easily spotted on site as well: Bainside House's main attraction is its 1.75-acre fishing lake stocked with carp, bream, tench, perch, rudd, roach and barbell. Fishing not your thing? Golf courses and cycle paths are nearby, or you could amble along to Woodhall Spa, zip along to Lincoln, or hike the Lincolnshire Wolds, the Lincolnshire Fens or the Viking Way. (Whatever you pick for your day, round it all off with an evening at the topping 16th-century pub next to the site, which serves good food and a range of cask ales.) Among the basic but well-maintained amenities at this friendly place are a toilet and shower block with disabled access; recycling, and chemical disposal (only biodegradable or cesspool-safe chemicals to be used here, please). Bainside is for adults only.

What customers say

This is a peaceful, adults-only site with friendly, helpful owners. Pitches are well-maintained and spacious, and facilities, including toilets and showers, are consistently reported as clean. A country pub next door serving good food is a significant bonus. The location is ideal for exploring local areas and enjoying walks. Minor points raised include occasional concerns about shower facilities needing updates, and some road or distant aircraft noise, though most visitors found the site very quiet. This site is highly recommended by many guests, with a strong desire to return.

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked The location for Woodhall Spa and Horncastle is ideal.
The Ebrington Arms (pub of the year 2019) is located next to the site.
Fishing is great, the toilets and showers are ok, but was informed that they're being upgraded, that said they were clean and heated.

Disliked Couldn't see a drive over grey waste area.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you for taking the time to pop a review on, glad that you enjoyed your stay.

The grey waste drive over is located in the car park next to the fishing lake, apologies if this was not pointed out to you, we also supply waste water carriers which are located next to the Elsan point for guests to borrow if they do have their own.

The facilities are being upgraded, the shower blocks are being done individually, we started with the accessible one last season, new doors will hopefully be fitted in April. Always a job to do!! Glad that you found them clean and warm.

We look forward to welcoming you back.

Enjoy your travels.

Electric grass pitch

Liked How beautiful the site is, the song of the birds, the local cows next door, fresh air, pear tree in the middle. Lovely clean hot showers, better than ours at home! Just gorgeous. Lovely kind owners who allowed us late check out for the tent to dry! Nothing too much trouble, just ask.

Disliked Only small issue was 2 dogs barking at each other Saturday night behind the fences to some houses, they eventually got it out their system or the owners returned it seemed.

From the manager: Thankyou for your lovely review, we are so pleased you enjoyed the peaceful setting.
It's wonderful to hear that you found us helpful during your stay, we always try to make sure that our guests feel welcome.

We are sorry to hear that dogs disturbed your stay, as they are not on the campsite itself it's unfortunately something out of our control but we do appreciate you mentioning it and hope it didn't take too much away from your overall stay.

It was a pleasure having you stay with us and we look forward to welcoming you back.

Local attractions

This amiable place is close to the Bain river, in the small village of Kirkby on Bain between Horncastle and Coningsby. Walking trails and cycle paths are easy to access from here, along the river, from the village and to the nearby Sites of Special Scientific Interest of Kirkby Moor and Moor Farm Nature Reserves, to the west of Kirkby on Bain. The Lincolnshire Wolds are six miles away. The handsome market town of Woodhall Spa three miles away is a Fairtrade village with a selection of top shops to spend some money at, and access to long-distance walks of the Fens including the Viking Way's 147 miles from the Humber Bridge in north Lincolnshire to Oakham in Rutland. (Much more easily, there's also the Spa Way, a traffic-free footpath of just over three miles from Woodhall Spa to Horncastle.) Golfers can shoot along the courses and academy of Woodhall Spa's National Golf Centre, voted among the top 25 courses in the world; and if you'd rather have putting, a course plus tennis courts, an outdoor pool and a croquet lawn are at Jubilee Park three miles away. For a day trip (or two), the castle, cathedral and shops of Lincoln can be reached in about 21 miles.
