Reception

General

  • Multi award-winning adults-only site with well-stocked fishing lakes
  • 100-seat platinum award-winning restaurant, bistro, bar and grill
  • Over 50 wheelchair-accessible pegs available at the fishing lakes

If you think that on-site fishing and an award-winning restaurant, bistro, bar and grill makes a winning holiday combo (yes), land them among the scenic landscaped surroundings and seven acres of Lincolnshire Wolds countryside at Caistor Lakes Leisure Park.

Anglers should find all excellent at the three well-stocked lakes, all of which have a dropoff point for tackle, gravelled paths, electric and wifi access, and full toilet facilities. Over 50 pegs are suitable for disabled anglers. Pick up day tickets for the Foundry Pool (mixed silver fish and carp up to 13lb) or Heron Pool (mixed silver fish and carp up to 29lb). Or settle in for a 24-hour session at dedicated specimen lake Arthurs Pool to see if you can snag carp up to 52lb.

Once all that's made you peckish, down rods for a bit for a bite in the Caistor Lakes 100-seat restaurant, in a peaceful setting overlooking the lakes and gardens. Its wide-ranging menu covers breakfasts, snacks, sandwiches, evening meals and a popular (with good reason) Sunday roast menu. All of it's cooked fresh to order, using locally sourced produce where possible.

Famished but can't tear yourself away from the fishing? You're among like-minded folk here: they'll happily deliver sustenance to your peg (or your accommodation if you're after a lazy night in).

Amenities on site include top-notch shower and toilet facilities (with separate male and female areas and full disabled access) and access to fresh water fill-ups and waste water and chemical disposal points.

Beautiful surroundings, impeccably maintained grounds and all necessary facilities (toilets and showers, dish wash area, fresh water etc) easily accessible. Very clean. Friendly and helpful staff. Very reasonably priced. Extremely quiet. We'll definitely be returning.

    Disliked:

Not a dislike as such but a small improvement would be to make a section of the restaurant available for dog owners or at least to provide a public inside area available to eat food from the restaurant.
Our requirements are adult only and dog friendly, but we couldn't take our dog into the restaurant so couldn't eat there which was such a shame as we would have loved to be able to use the facility. This wouldn't be an issue in the summer but we went in January and it's far too cold to eat outside.

Local attractions

Caistor Lakes Leisure Park's local town of Caistor is a market town on the edge of the Wolds with a history going back a couple of thousand years to its Roman fortress times.

Main sights to see are the Georgian and Victorian architecture, the Scheduled Ancient Monument of the remaining fragments of Roman wall, and the market square with over 50 listed buildings. Market days are on Wednesdays and Saturdays.

Fellow market town Market Rasen is 15 minutes' drive south of Caistor and visited for its racecourse, more Georgian and Victorian architecture, and market days on Tuesdays, Fridays and Saturdays – that's five Lincolnshire markets one could easily visit in these parts over the week, with more to be had at the likes of county market towns like Louth and Alford...

If you're up for ambling, an easy four-mile circular walk starts and ends in Caistor via Nettleton, or you could hike the 25 miles of the Caistor Challenge, wander the Wolds free range, or tackle some of the 147 miles of the Viking Way passing through Caistor on its route from Humber Bridge to Oakham.

Must see

  • Far Ings National Nature Reserve (14.5 miles)
  • The Deep (16.3 miles)
  • Ferens Art Gallery (16.6 miles)

National Trust

  • Maister House (16.6 miles)
  • Tattershall Castle (28.3 miles)
