  • Adults-only campsite in hilly countryside near Market Harborough
  • A 10-minute drive to Foxton Locks, and 20 to Lutterworth
  • Covered communal eating area; dark skies site and wildlife haven
Base yourself at Valley View Campsite for a peaceful, adults-only stay among Leicestershire hills and valleys near Market Harborough, or use the place as a base for day trips to the bright lights of Birmingham (an hour’s drive). Either way, those far-reaching rural views come as standard on all the spacious pitches. No-frills facilities cover spotlessly clean showers and loos. Barbecues are allowed or you can pick up takeaways in Fleckney (five minutes’ drive) and eat in The Barn, an undercover communal dining area for unwinding, meeting fellow guests and doing the washing up. If the weather is behaving and conditions are right, you may catch some colourful sunrises and sunsets, and as the area has a low level of light pollution, some serious stargazing is possible on clear nights. The site is also something of a wildlife haven, so keep your eyes peeled for sparrow hawks and buzzards, rabbits and deer. Dogs are welcome at Valley View, and there’s a separate area where you can take them for exercise.

What customers say

This adults-only campsite boasts stunning countryside views and a peaceful atmosphere. Guests frequently praise the exceptionally friendly and accommodating host, Helen, as well as the immaculate, well-maintained facilities, including a communal barn with seating and refreshments. Pitches are spacious, and the site is ideal for relaxation. Minor points raised include occasional road noise and a desire for more shower/toilet facilities during busy periods.

Electric optional grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Very amenable owner (Helen) letting us pitch up in a ehu space to get more shade. The barn...coffee and chill out area is fabulous, for light weight motorcycle campers it's a real bonus. Definitely the best set up of our motor cycle tour.

Nice welcome in queens head pub, but no food monday tues at mo.

Liked Beautiful views, brilliant facilities and such a friendly host - they went out of their way to give us a perfect quiet pitch when I mentioned about my excitable dogs which I would ask for again as it was stunning!

Electric optional grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked My first ever tent camping trip and going solo (with dog) I could not have wished for a better place. Very peaceful calm and relaxing and views to die for across open countryside. Wonderful sunset and sunrise and lots of choice pitches to really get the views. Pitches looked generous and didnt feel cramped and a good combination of semi hardstanding for caravans and grass for camping. I asked for some shade due to the heatwave and temps in excess of 30 deg c and having the dog and it was no problem and Helen the owner met me on arrival and showed me to a choice of pitches. I agree with many other reviews here that Helen is a diamond and she had bags of ice on hand in the fridge freezer in the converted barn / facilities /kitchen area and my dog was very grateful for the ice water! I had forgotten to bring milk and she kindly gave me some of her own supply and checked in on my progress putting up my tent for basically the first proper time. Thanks also to my neighbour in the caravan who lent me a decent air pump when the one supplied with my air tent failed. I had heard and read about the camping community and Valley View was my perfect introduction. If you are looking for a no fuss easy going stop over or a base to explore the midlands for a few days or a week it would be perfect and the facilities and being in the central barn woud be great if say the weather turned or you just wanted somewhere to sit and read on the comfy leather sofas and there were board games you could use. Cannot fault the place

Local attractions

Starting in the village of Mowsley, have a wander on foot around the Laughton Hills or do some exploring on horseback from the local riding stables (both five minutes’ drive). For a gentle stroll, follow the Grand Union Canal towpath out of the village – it’s an easy walk to Foxton Locks (10 minutes), where you can watch barges ascend a flight of 10 locks, hire a boat to chug along the canal yourself, or have a nose around Foxton Canal Museum (15 minutes). Exercise completed for the day? Foxton Locks Inn is the spot for a virtuous post-walk pint and a bite to eat. If you have the urge to spend some of your hard-earned cash, Market Harborough (15 minutes’ drive) is packed with antiques emporiums and unusual shops, or try Lutterworth (20 minutes) for its historic Thursday market and stick around for a tour of elegant 17th-century Stanford Hall (20 minutes, check opening dates before you visit).
