  • Adults-only campsite in hilly countryside near Market Harborough
  • A 10-minute drive to Foxton Locks, and 20 to Lutterworth
  • Covered communal eating area; dark skies site and wildlife haven
Base yourself at Valley View Campsite for a peaceful, adults-only stay among Leicestershire hills and valleys near Market Harborough, or use the place as a base for day trips to the bright lights of Birmingham (an hour’s drive). Either way, those far-reaching rural views come as standard on all the spacious pitches. No-frills facilities cover spotlessly clean showers and loos. Barbecues are allowed or you can pick up takeaways in Fleckney (five minutes’ drive) and eat in The Barn, an undercover communal dining area for unwinding, meeting fellow guests and doing the washing up. If the weather is behaving and conditions are right, you may catch some colourful sunrises and sunsets, and as the area has a low level of light pollution, some serious stargazing is possible on clear nights. The site is also something of a wildlife haven, so keep your eyes peeled for sparrow hawks and buzzards, rabbits and deer. Dogs are welcome at Valley View, and there’s a separate area where you can take them for exercise.

Liked Beautiful location and views.
Easy to get to.
Great facilities. Perhaps a little tired and dated and I guess could be a little limited if site is busy but very clean and well kept.
Laid back but Helen the owner on hand if needed.
The barn has been converted to include seating area and kitchen with kettle, washing up and so on. Great spot to hang out.
Excellent fish and chips in local village.

Disliked Not much.
Some noise due to road passing but nothing the site can do about that.

Liked Gorgeous little campsite, we absolutely adored how peaceful it was even though it was a bank holiday weekend. When speaking to the lovely owner Helen she said she doesn’t like to overfill the campsite and I think her decision is the best one as you don’t feel too crowded and there is plenty of space .gorgeous weather also helped but this is one place that we will definitely be going back too.

Power optional grass tent or trailer tent site

Liked Everything. Clean facilities and well maintained pitches. Friendly host. Quiet, adults only. Good space between pitches so didn't feel squashed. The pitches are flat as the hill doesn't start until further down, so no issues with being level but means you get amazing views from up high. Got to see loads of stars as it was a clear night. BBQs allowed. Had a great stay. Honestly one of the - if not the - best places we've camped.

Disliked Not a dislike for us, but there are several farms surrounding and the baa-ing from the sheep is constant. Recommend ear plugs for sleeping and it's absolutely fine. Just something to bear in mind if you're sensitive to noise.

Local attractions

Starting in the village of Mowsley, have a wander on foot around the Laughton Hills or do some exploring on horseback from the local riding stables (both five minutes’ drive). For a gentle stroll, follow the Grand Union Canal towpath out of the village – it’s an easy walk to Foxton Locks (10 minutes), where you can watch barges ascend a flight of 10 locks, hire a boat to chug along the canal yourself, or have a nose around Foxton Canal Museum (15 minutes). Exercise completed for the day? Foxton Locks Inn is the spot for a virtuous post-walk pint and a bite to eat. If you have the urge to spend some of your hard-earned cash, Market Harborough (15 minutes’ drive) is packed with antiques emporiums and unusual shops, or try Lutterworth (20 minutes) for its historic Thursday market and stick around for a tour of elegant 17th-century Stanford Hall (20 minutes, check opening dates before you visit).
