General

  • Rock pub site near Coalville
  • Charity events, rock nights, bike nights and rideouts
  • Food available all day

Bikers, truckers and live music lovers – this is the place for you. Near Coalville in Leicestershire is The Victoria - Bikers Pub, where a friendly team sees all sorts from doctors to lawyers, and guarantees a rollicking welcome for those about to rock.

Free birds come to this popular pub from all over the country – and further afield – as a stopover on the way to Donington Park and Mallory, as a base when touring, and for the rock nights (three music stages!) and bike nights.

There are also charity events, rideouts at weekends – plus of course plenty of real ale and scrumpy (treat with caution?) The pub also has a garden of remembrance for famous and departed bikers and rockers like John Lennon, Gary Moore and Phil Lynott.

For stomach lining, the café serves all-day breakfasts and other meals during the day and a burger van sells award-winning nosh into the wee hours on weekend evenings, including Aberdeen Angus burgers, hot dogs with Irish-recipe sausages, bacon butties and chip butties stuffed with fresh handcut chips. Fancy a takeaway? Order a Chinese or Indian meal from a local restaurant and staff will supply the plates and cutlery.

Pitches at the Vic are within helpful staggering distance of the pub; outside loos are available at night when the pub is shut, and showers (and a swimming pool) are available a minute's drive away at a leisure centre.

Finally, as there’s much ale and scrumpy being consumed, the pitches here are for adults only. Rock on…

    NOWT

    Disliked:

This place had more relevance as a scrap yard than a camp site. The first part was half filled with derelict and seme derelict cars, caravans and a motorhome, and the 2nd part, the designated 'campsite', was 90% filled with a motley collection contractors caravans and a few scrap vehicles too. Because our fridge had suddenly become menopausal was needed to use the electric hookup. So for £5 I had to root through the undergrowth in order to find a hidden 13amp socket. My wife and I are in our mid 70s and have wild camped all over Europe in many strange places, but this is truly the most disgusting place that we have ever experienced and nothing like the website picture.

From the manager...

You know you meet the strangest people in life but you have to take the ticket, your laughing and joking with me one minute and stabbing me in the back the next, so there are other caravans on the site, what do you expect, did I forget to say you didn't have exclusive rights to the area, what does it matter who owns the caravans, they are hard working decent men who own them, work at the quarry, live in them 4 days a week and go home weekends to there families, you don't hear a sound from them...............REAL PEOPLE !!!
You booked a pitch without electric, is it my fault your poxy little fridge broke down, you had to hunt through the undergrowth to find a socket, one of the contractors actually helped you find a socket, yes a contractor, one of the people you condemn for being there......a scrapyard eh, a Jag doesn't look like scrap to me, its probably worth more than the biscuit tin of a motorhome you drive around in. the other car, a Peugeot is a customers car, yes a customers car, we do have customers.
A yellow motorbike, was a bit bright, hope that didn't offend you. Nah I,m sure you would have said. the advertising trailer, we take it to motorcycle events, its called marketing and promotion, they are all parked on the main car park, well away from you on the other side of the fence, so why should that be an issue..... My motorhome, I shouldn't park MY motorhome on MY own car park, mmm , really..... does need a clean though I must admit,........ Ha Ha you actually took a picture of the contractors' caravans, my god you're a nasty piece of work, wasn't they up to your impeccably high standards.
We have had campers from all over Europe but you are the most disgusting person I have ever had the misfortune to meet,
I'll now hopefully give Specsavers a bit of business and suggest you go there to have your eyes tested so you can read the itinery on our page so you know what your coming to... you didn't by any chance scrape the side of your Bisquit tin did you, as we have some very interesting stuff on our cctv which might lead me to think its someone's bad driving that rattled your cage in the first place to write such derogatory statements, I just might put it on Face Book and let the country decide whos really at fault here,, we have 32 HD cctv cameras around the pub and car park and camping area, for everyone's safety, we try and please everyone but its very hard to sometimes...why didnt you read the itinery and look at the pictures you can see quite clearly what we have.It does say we're not a proper campsite but a friendly and safe place for a stopover. I rest my case !!

Local attractions

Those feeling energetic can roar along the 30-mile circuit of the Brass Monkey Run around Charnwood Forest with hundreds of other bikers in early January to raise money for the Rainbow Children's Hospice – or complete it at any time of the year on their own (pick up a route map from staff and a celebratory pin badge after you finish).

Bikes, cars and other wheely good transport options are the (Ford?) focus of several attractions in Leicestershire. Outside of Download, Donington Park lives as a race circuit that's home to the British Motorcycle Grand Prix and the Donington Grand Prix Exhibition, the biggest collection of Grand Prix vehicles in the world.

Get more racing satisfaction at Mallory Park racing circuit at nearby Kirkby Mallory, or for an out-of-this-world trip, the acclaimed National Space Centre just outside Leicester city centre is the country’s biggest attraction devoted to space.

More quietly, Nanpantan Reservoir is a good nearby spot for fishing, and fisheries are at Mallory Park and Charnwood Lake. Also worth a look is Charnwood Forest’s Bradgate Park; look out for the ancient rocks on the hilltop of Old John.
