Broadstone Park: Ancient oak trees

General

  • Small fishing and farm site on the England/Wales border
  • In a peaceful scenic setting among old oak trees and Neolithic stones
  • Close to Go Ape and the Forest of Dean

Settle in for an afternoon's fishing and look out for wildlife like deer, rabbits and birds, all in a lovely Welsh/English border locale among old oak trees and Neolithic stones… welcome to Broadstone Park.

This is a small and family-run site between the market towns of Monmouth and Coleford, named after those Neolithic stones and in an area with plenty of options for walking, cycling and other outdoorsy activities. A small spring-fed fly fishery is on site for guests' use, stocked with carp, rudd, perch and bream and open daily from dawn to dusk.

Facilities at Broadstone Park include a newly added toilet and shower block and a small camp shop selling local produce groceries such as free-range eggs, burgers and sausages: all sorts of fab things to sizzle up on a campfire…

Please note

Facilities/activities including fishing are subject to extra charges payable on arrival.

Bookings must not be for more than 14 consecutive nights.

    - All staff, locals and campers were really friendly and helpful during my visit which made our stay so much more enjoyable.
    - Site has a great little onsite Bar/Cafe. It's only big enough for around 6 people however has a lovely area outside with a wood burner and benches which overlook one of the fishing lakes. Perfect for a quiet evening drink.
    - Nice woodland walks which are accessed directly via the rear of the site.
    - The site has a nice mixture of friendly farm animals which was lovely to see. During our morning walk we we're greeted by ducks, chickens, geese and turkeys.
    - The site has a nice and relaxed 12pm checkout time which gives you plenty of time to pack up, have breakfast and explore the local walks.
    - Show and Toilet facilities we're pleasant.
    - The whole site was nice and quiet at night with only animal and road noise that could be heard.

    Disliked:

    - Unfortunately the biggest issue I had was that many of the pitches we're muddy and there was no option for gravel or hard standing pitches (Hopefully this is something the site will add in the near future). Due to the time of year and the recent weather there was quite a bit of mud and my van become very dirty during our stay.
    - Most of the pitches are quite close to the nearby road which can be both seen and heard during the day and at night. It would be nice if trees and/or taller hedges could be added along the boundary in the future to limit the impact from this.
    - I was disappointed to find that there was no onsite hot food offered in the evening.
    - Sloping pitches made our stay slightly unconfutable.

Lovely clean, well-appointed site with plenty of space and fishing available. Beautiful area, with Monmouth only a few miles away. Shop and bar, which is small and friendly, where you can have a drink and relax, inside, or out. Great walks from the site into the woods, or up to The Kymin, a National Trust site, situated in a designated AONB and having lots of history related to honouring the Royal Navy and its victories. Abundance of wildlife around - we will definitely be back!

    Disliked:

Busy road nearby could be considered a problem by some in the warmer weather when sitting outside relaxing but we had no issues with this.

Note they allow groups of people so music/noise goes on, did not bother us but some may not apricate this.
