Overview of the site
Grass pitches

  • Gloucestershire farm site with views of the Malvern Hills
  • A 10-minute drive to Tewkesbury; 20 minutes to Gloucester Cathedral
  • On-site café and occasional restaurant; firepits for hire
Located in the Severn Vale, Elmwicke Campsite has fabulous views of the Malverns and Bredon Hill in Gloucestershire. This is the place for all adorers of animals, as it’s set on a working farm with a flock of Jacob sheep, a herd of rare-breed Gloucester cattle, and the Pygmy goats Mabel and Martha, plus Bacon the pig. Site owners and carers to all those animals, Jon and Ruth are fourth-generation farmers and you’ll see them at some point during your stay, whether that’s welcoming you in, delivering wood, cleaning the facilities or having a good old natter. The site is a seven-acre, flat field where you can choose your own pitch, and stay together if you’re with friends or family. There’s plenty of space for games of cricket, rugby, football, rounders or flying kites. With men’s and women’s loos, the amenities block has showers and a family room with baby-changing facilities. To help you with keeping everybody clean and tidy, there’s also a laundry area with a washing machine. An on-site café is open for breakfast rolls, pastries and fresh coffee (note that all breakfasts must be ordered the night before) to get you going in the morning, and on some nights, you can eat at the pop-up restaurant. If you’d rather be self-sufficient, barbecues are allowed on site, and you can order meat packs (subject to availability) from the farm, as well as hire firepits and buy bags of wood, which are delivered daily.

What customers say

Elmwicke Campsite offers a very positive experience with immaculately clean facilities, including hot showers and a useful washing-up area with fridges/freezers. Visitors consistently praise the friendly and helpful owners, Ruth and John, and the spacious, flat pitches. The on-site cafe is a popular bonus, serving excellent breakfast rolls. Children particularly enjoy the tractor rides and the open space for games. While some mention distant motorway noise, overall feedback highlights a relaxing and well-maintained site that guests frequently recommend and plan to revisit.

Electric grass pitch

Liked Fantastic site with great facilities. Excellent location for exploring the local area. Facilities were so clean and well maintained, as was the cafe area. The breakfast sandwiches are definitely worth a try. Ruth was just lovely too. On the last day let our girls feed the goats which that absolutely loved.

Disliked Nothing at all.

Electric grass pitch

Liked Amazing facilities, best I’ve seen. Very clean toilets and showers, lovely washing up room with washing machine and fridge freezers to use.

Plenty of space and a lovely big field for the kids, enough distance to not hear other people’s camps.

Disliked The sound of the nearby M5, it was windy so we were possibly unlucky with the wind carrying the sound. I didn’t notice it during the day, but at night I could hear the distant rumble and found it annoying. The rest of my party weren’t bothered though.

Electric grass pitch

Liked Returned today from a lovely stay at Elmwicke this weekend.

This is by far one of the nicest sites we've ever had the pleasure of staying at. Ruth and John are so welcoming, friendly & attentive as hosts. As soon as you arrive you can feel the lovely atmosphere. The views were outstanding, the site is flat, clean & well maintained & the bathrooms are tidy, clean and well stocked. They also have a cafe on site which serves delicious breakfast rolls along with other options such as ice-creams, snacks, drinks etc.

Really looking forward to heading back again when we can!

Liked Very clean facilities. Plenty of toilet paper, soap and even a few sanitary products. Free washing machine for use. Really big site with lots of room for non electric people. The electric section looked a bit squashed.

Non-electric grass pitch

Liked Sunsets on an evening were beautiful. The toilets & showers were very clean with personal touches. Large open and flat field with campers around the perimeter.

Disliked Tall hedging prevented views into the neighbouring fields, however, this did provide screening from poor weather.

Non-electric grass pitch

Liked Clean, well set out campsite, clean toilets and showers. Great safe area for kids to ride bikes or play.

Disliked Unclear instructions on arrival, showers were not working on the 2nd day, shop could have stocked more necessary items. Felt host was stressed so unfortunately communication may have come across as rude on her part. Sign at cafe/shop stated to call if unattended, so when she came she told us she was busy so just text her. We felt like we had annoyed her.

Local attractions

Gather the kids up for games of mini-golf at Sherdons Golf Centre’s Pirate Adventure (five minutes’ drive), or let them have a look at the Harry Potter film locations in Gloucester Cathedral (20 minutes). They can follow treasure trails at Puzzlewood in the Forest of Dean (both 50 minutes), where you can also hike forest paths or up the activity levels and get some cycling in. Keen for more exercise? Have a go at skiing or tubing at Gloucester Ski and Snowboard Centre, or head for Sandford Parks Lido in Cheltenham (both 25 minutes), with its gorgeous Art Deco architecture and two outdoor pools to cool off in on sunny days. Mooch around indie shops in Tewkesbury (10 minutes), where you can also visit the historic abbey, grab an ice-cream or relax on a boat trip along the Severn and Avon rivers. Mellow-stone Cotswolds towns to add to your itinerary include Broadway (half an hour) for its delightful architecture and design museums, and Stow-on-the-Wold (40 minutes) for its cracking selection of antique shops.
