  • Adults-only park a couple of minutes' drive from the M5
  • Use as an overnight stopover or as a base for Cheltenham or Gloucester
  • Landscaped with mature shrubs, hedges and trees
Apart from a possible pitch on a tower block in the middle of a city, Briarfields Touring Park might be the most ‘leave your car at home’ site we’ve seen yet. Ditch the diesel guzzler or leave the motorhome on site and hitch a ride on one of the regular buses that pass right outside, leading to days’ worth of days out at Cheltenham (two miles away), Gloucester (six miles), Oxford, the Forest of Dean and the Cotswolds. And if you’re getting around under your own steam, the friendly family team at Briarfields can pick you up from local public transport when you arrive. Even on your own feet you’ll reach most of what you need quickly from the park: a pub and a newsagent are within a few minutes’ walk; an Indian restaurant, KFC and supermarket less than 15 minutes – and a caravan sales and spares dealership is a mile and a half away, just in case. Although Briarfields is only a couple of minutes from the M5 (it’s often used by guests on their way north or south as an overnight stopover), it’s been rather cleverly designed so you can think you’re slap bang in the middle of the countryside: the landscaped and the accommodation areas are edged throughout with mature shrubs, hedges and trees. Amenities are equally well looked after: the centrally placed amenities block is cleaned twice a day and has free hot showers for ladies, gents and disabled guests. Swing into reception when you arrive at Briarfields for reams of info, leaflets and maps on the many (many) things to do a bus ride away: buses run every ten minutes during the day and every 20 minutes in the evening to both Cheltenham and Gloucester, and another service to Oxford will give explorers about six hours in the city before heading back to Cheltenham. Briarfields is open all year round and is dog-friendly.

What customers say

Briarfields is praised for its cleanliness, friendly staff, and excellent facilities, particularly the spotless washrooms. Its convenient location offers easy access to Cheltenham and Gloucester via frequent bus services, and is ideal for exploring the Cotswolds. While some guests noted road and occasional aircraft noise, this was generally considered a minor issue, outweighed by the site's overall advantages. Many reviewers expressed a desire to return.

From the manager: Thank you so much for your lovely review, Chris.

We’re delighted to hear you enjoyed your stay and found the park clean, well laid out and welcoming.

It’s especially lovely to know that your Cockapoos enjoyed Dorothy’s Dog Field and were able to have plenty of zoomies! That’s exactly why we created the enclosed space to give dogs a safe place to run, play and burn off some energy while their owners can relax.

Thank you for your recommendation and for taking the time to leave your feedback. We’re so pleased to hear you’ll definitely be returning, and we look forward to welcoming you (and your four-legged family members!) back to Briarfields again very soon.

Alan L. 5 reviews

Fully-serviced hardstanding touring pitch

Liked Lovely well kept site and well placed for visiting Cheltenham and Gloucester with a bus stop directly outside of the site. Modern toilet and shower facilities. We had a two night stopover on a fully serviced pitch travelling from Dorset back to Lancashire.
Also within walking distance of a Harvester Pub

Disliked Unfortunately it was just off the main road which was quite busy and as there was also roadworks at the time it was very noisy, although we appreciate that the was out of the owners control. It also very close to a private airport so there was a lot of light aircraft taking off and landing but that was fine as it was all quiet in the evening so didn’t interrupt our sleep

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you for taking the time to leave such a thoughtful review, Alan.

We’re delighted to hear you enjoyed your stay and found the park well maintained, with modern facilities and a convenient location for exploring both Cheltenham and Gloucester. It’s great to know you made good use of the bus service right outside the park and enjoyed having local amenities, including the Harvester, within easy walking distance.

Thank you also for your understanding regarding the temporary roadworks during your visit. As you mentioned, they were unfortunately beyond our control, and we really appreciate your patience while they were taking place. We’re pleased to hear that, despite the extra daytime noise, you still found the evenings peaceful and that the nearby airport activity didn’t affect your sleep.

Thank you once again for your recommendation. We’re especially pleased to hear you would definitely stay with us again if you’re in the area, and we look forward to welcoming you back to Briarfields in the future.

From the manager: Thank you so much for your wonderful review, Janet.

We’re delighted to hear you enjoyed your stay and that everything met your expectations. It’s especially lovely to know that your dogs enjoyed Dorothy’s Dog Field and that the seating was helpful for you. We wanted it to be a welcoming space where everyone could relax, so your comments are greatly appreciated.

Thank you also for your helpful suggestion about providing water in the dog field during periods of very hot weather. It’s something we’ll certainly give some thought to, as we always welcome ideas that could make our guests’ stays even more comfortable.

We’re also very grateful for your kind private feedback. It’s wonderful to hear you appreciated the warm welcome from the team, the peaceful surroundings, our convenient location and the ANPR entry system.

Thank you again for your recommendation. We hope to welcome you and your dogs back to Briarfields again very soon.

Liked Nice layout. Good facilities

Disliked The entrance is poor and possibly dangerous ? There is insufficient room at the entrance for more than one unit. We arrived and there were three of us. The second was part off the highway and we were stuck on the highway near to the roundabout on a busy road. That is very poor.

From the manager: Thank you for taking the time to leave your review and for your recommendation.

We're delighted to hear you enjoyed the layout of the park, our facilities, and that you appreciated the sculptures and the overall presentation of the site. It's lovely to know these aspects of your stay stood out.

We're sorry to hear your arrival wasn't as smooth as we'd like. Friday afternoons, particularly around our 1pm check-in time, can be our busiest period as guests begin arriving for the weekend. Our team always work hard to check guests in as quickly and efficiently as possible to keep traffic moving and minimise any waiting time, but we do appreciate that on particularly busy occasions there can be a short delay, and we're sorry for any inconvenience this caused.

Thank you for sharing your concerns. Guest feedback is always valuable, and we'll continue to review our arrival procedures to ensure the best possible experience for everyone.

We hope this didn't detract too much from an otherwise enjoyable stay, and we look forward to welcoming you back to Briarfields again in the future.

Local attractions

Well. Where do we start? At least a day in Cheltenham first, we think – more if you’re coming to have a flutter at the racecourse just four miles away or jazzing it up at one of the many festivals. Catch the bus early to take in as much as poss: a morning coveting the art, furniture, crafts and jewellery at Cheltenham Art Gallery and Museum, many created by Cotswold craftspeople inspired by William Morris, should build up an appetite for lunch and an afternoon of shopping around The Brewery, Bath Road and in the well-lined High Street. Harry Potter fans and the history-inclined will likely want an hour or two at medieval Gloucester Cathedral, used in the first and second films (see if you recognise the Cloisters). Away from Hogwarts, the cathedral has an award-winning exhibition centre, exhibitions and guided tours, and regular events and concerts including The Three Choirs Festival, one of the oldest classical choral music festivals in the world. The Gloucester Docks and award-winning Waterways Museum is also a good afternoon out for heritage fans, while the more modern can find plenty to occupy them at the waterside retail park Gloucester Quays. Plunge into the countryside next for a couple of days in the Cotswolds, where you’ll find acres of things to do whatever your inclination such as punting around local villages like Chipping Camden and Bourton-on-the-Water, or visiting the many museums ranging from Roman to motoring times. Wildlife options abound too, particularly for birders, with the Cotswold Falconry Centre at the Batsford Arboretum, geese and swans at Slimbridge Wetland Centre, and Birdland Park and Gardens in Bourton-on-the-Water where twitchers can see rare birds from around the world, including England’s only group of king penguins. Finally, take a day or two in the ancient Forest of Dean (Harry Potter and co ended up here too), one of the oldest woodlands in the country, to go underground at the old mines of the Clearwell Caves, hire a bike to hit the forest tracks, or, more relaxingly, take the four and a half mile trip from Lydney to Parkend on the Dean Forest Railway.
