  • Adults-only park a couple of minutes' drive from the M5
  • Use as an overnight stopover or as a base for Cheltenham or Gloucester
  • Landscaped with mature shrubs, hedges and trees
Apart from a possible pitch on a tower block in the middle of a city, Briarfields Touring Park might be the most ‘leave your car at home’ site we’ve seen yet. Ditch the diesel guzzler or leave the motorhome on site and hitch a ride on one of the regular buses that pass right outside, leading to days’ worth of days out at Cheltenham (two miles away), Gloucester (six miles), Oxford, the Forest of Dean and the Cotswolds. And if you’re getting around under your own steam, the friendly family team at Briarfields can pick you up from local public transport when you arrive. Even on your own feet you’ll reach most of what you need quickly from the park: a pub and a newsagent are within a few minutes’ walk; an Indian restaurant, KFC and supermarket less than 15 minutes – and a caravan sales and spares dealership is a mile and a half away, just in case. Although Briarfields is only a couple of minutes from the M5 (it’s often used by guests on their way north or south as an overnight stopover), it’s been rather cleverly designed so you can think you’re slap bang in the middle of the countryside: the landscaped and the accommodation areas are edged throughout with mature shrubs, hedges and trees. Amenities are equally well looked after: the centrally placed amenities block is cleaned twice a day and has free hot showers for ladies, gents and disabled guests. Swing into reception when you arrive at Briarfields for reams of info, leaflets and maps on the many (many) things to do a bus ride away: buses run every ten minutes during the day and every 20 minutes in the evening to both Cheltenham and Gloucester, and another service to Oxford will give explorers about six hours in the city before heading back to Cheltenham. Briarfields is open all year round and is dog-friendly.

What customers say

Briarfields is a well-maintained, clean, adults-only site praised for its spacious, private pitches and excellent, modern toilet and shower facilities. Guests highlight the convenient location with easy access to the M5 and frequent bus services to Cheltenham and Gloucester. While some mention traffic noise from nearby roads and the airport, many find it unobtrusive and overshadowed by the site's many positives, including helpful staff and a good dog walking area. Visitors highly recommend the park and frequently express their intention to return.

Liked Location on a bus route to Cheltenham and Gloucester

Disliked NOISE NOISE NOISE. ROAD AND AEROPLANES!!

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you for taking the time to leave your feedback, Sarah.

We're pleased to hear you appreciated our location and the excellent bus service to both Cheltenham and Gloucester, although we're sorry that you found the background noise particularly noticeable during your one-night stay.

We do feel it's important to clarify for anyone considering a stay with us that we're very open about our location. Briarfields is situated between Cheltenham and Gloucester, close to the main road network and Gloucestershire Airport, and this is clearly described throughout our park information and booking descriptions. We also specifically advise guests that some traffic and light aircraft noise can be heard at times.

We provide this information before booking precisely because we want prospective guests to understand our setting and decide whether it's right for them. We're not a remote rural campsite; one of Briarfields' biggest advantages is its incredibly convenient location, with Cheltenham, Gloucester, the Cotswolds, the M5, cycle routes and regular public transport all exceptionally easy to access.

We completely appreciate that sensitivity to background noise varies enormously. Many of our guests tell us they barely notice it, while others are naturally more sensitive to it, and we fully respect that.

We wish you well in your future travels.

Best Wishes,
Jo and the Briarfields Team

From the manager: Thank you so much for your lovely and balanced review, Colin.

We're delighted to hear you enjoyed your stay and found Briarfields clean, tidy and well laid out. It's also wonderful to know you were impressed with our washroom facilities and that the Wi-Fi worked so well for you.

We're pleased you appreciated how easy the park is to reach too. Our convenient location between Cheltenham and Gloucester, close to the main road network and Gloucestershire Airport, is one of the reasons many guests choose us, although as you rightly mention, it does mean some traffic and light aircraft noise can be heard at times.

We're always very open about this in our park descriptions so guests know what to expect before booking, and we're grateful for your balanced comments. For many guests, the excellent access to Cheltenham, Gloucester, the Cotswolds, the M5 and public transport right outside the park makes it a worthwhile trade-off.

Best Wishes,
The Briarfields Team

From the manager: Thank you so much for taking the time to leave your review, Charlotte.

We're delighted to hear you enjoyed your stay and found our team friendly, polite and helpful. It's also lovely to know you appreciated the size and privacy of the pitches, our clean facilities and lovely hot showers.

We're especially pleased you made good use of the regular bus service just outside the park. Our convenient location makes exploring Cheltenham and Gloucester incredibly easy without needing to drive.

Thank you also for your fair comments regarding the road noise. Being so conveniently located between Cheltenham and Gloucester, close to the M5 and major transport links, does inevitably mean some background traffic can be heard, and we appreciate that everyone has a different sensitivity to noise.

Thank you for your balanced feedback, Charlotte. We look forward to welcoming you back!

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you so much for your fantastic review, Karen.

We're delighted to hear Briarfields had everything you needed for your overnight stay and that you found your fully serviced pitch so convenient, with electric, water and waste all close at hand.

It's also wonderful to hear you found everything spotlessly clean, but we're especially pleased that our team could help you as caravan newbies! We all remember there can be quite a lot to get your head around when you first start caravanning, so we're always more than happy to lend a hand, answer questions or help with those little things that suddenly don't quite go to plan.

Being just a few minutes from the M5 makes us ideal for an overnight stop, although hopefully we'll tempt you to stay a little longer one day and explore Cheltenham, Gloucester and the Cotswolds too!

We look forward to welcoming you back to Briarfields and wish you lots of happy adventures with your caravan!

From the manager: Thank you so much for taking the time to leave your review.

We're delighted to hear you enjoyed your stay and particularly appreciated the layout of the park, the generous size of your fully serviced pitch and our clean, spacious facilities. It's also great to hear the Wi-Fi worked well for you.

Thank you too for your lovely comments about the welcome you received. We always try to give guests plenty of information about the local area, public transport and places to visit so they can really make the most of their stay.

We completely appreciate your comments regarding our location. Briarfields isn't a remote countryside site, and we're very open about this in our descriptions and information before guests book. We're situated between Cheltenham and Gloucester, close to major road links and Gloucestershire Airport, so traffic and light aircraft can be heard at times.

That same location does, however, give our guests exceptionally convenient access to Cheltenham, Gloucester, the Cotswolds, the M5, excellent cycle routes and regular buses just outside the park. For many of our guests, that convenience is one of the main reasons they choose to stay with us.

Thank you for your balanced feedback and we hope to have the pleasure of welcoming you back in the future.

The Beeches fully-serviced grass and gravel motorhome pitch

Liked Pitches nicely spaced. Facilities lovely and clean and in excellent order. Friendly greeting on arrival, friendly staff throughout our stay. It's also in a great location, with easy access to both Cheltenham and Gloucester. Shops and eateries also close by, what more could you want?

Disliked A pet hate of mine is push button showers, they are so annoying, I can never understand why they exist. I also find them difficult to operate.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you so much for your lovely and thoughtful review, Tim.

We're delighted to hear you enjoyed your stay on The Beeches and appreciated the spacious pitches, our clean and well-maintained facilities and, most importantly, the friendly welcome and service from our team throughout your stay.

It's also great to know our location worked so well for you, with Cheltenham and Gloucester both within easy reach and plenty of shops and places to eat nearby.

We completely appreciate your comments about the push-button showers, we know they're one of those things people tend to either not mind at all or have firmly on their list of pet hates! We're sorry you found them particularly difficult to operate, and we'll certainly keep your feedback in mind as we continue to upgrade and improve our facilities.

Your private comments genuinely meant a great deal to us. We put an enormous amount of care into Briarfields, so it's wonderful when a guest notices that and takes the time to say so.

Thank you again for your recommendation and for choosing to stay with us. We're delighted you had such a lovely visit and hope to welcome you back to Briarfields again in the future.

From the manager: Thank you so much for taking the time to leave your review.

We're delighted to hear you had a pleasant stay with us, enjoyed our clean facilities and, most importantly, would choose to stay at Briarfields again.

We're sorry you had difficulty getting completely level on pitch 11, even with your levelling blocks. Thank you for mentioning the specific pitch number, that's really helpful, and we'll take a look at it as part of our ongoing pitch maintenance.

If you visit us again, please do let us know your preference for a particularly level pitch when booking and, subject to availability, we'll always do our best to accommodate you.

Thank you again for your recommendation. We hope your next visit might be for a little longer than one night, and we look forward to welcoming you back to Briarfields.

Local attractions

Well. Where do we start? At least a day in Cheltenham first, we think – more if you’re coming to have a flutter at the racecourse just four miles away or jazzing it up at one of the many festivals. Catch the bus early to take in as much as poss: a morning coveting the art, furniture, crafts and jewellery at Cheltenham Art Gallery and Museum, many created by Cotswold craftspeople inspired by William Morris, should build up an appetite for lunch and an afternoon of shopping around The Brewery, Bath Road and in the well-lined High Street. Harry Potter fans and the history-inclined will likely want an hour or two at medieval Gloucester Cathedral, used in the first and second films (see if you recognise the Cloisters). Away from Hogwarts, the cathedral has an award-winning exhibition centre, exhibitions and guided tours, and regular events and concerts including The Three Choirs Festival, one of the oldest classical choral music festivals in the world. The Gloucester Docks and award-winning Waterways Museum is also a good afternoon out for heritage fans, while the more modern can find plenty to occupy them at the waterside retail park Gloucester Quays. Plunge into the countryside next for a couple of days in the Cotswolds, where you’ll find acres of things to do whatever your inclination such as punting around local villages like Chipping Camden and Bourton-on-the-Water, or visiting the many museums ranging from Roman to motoring times. Wildlife options abound too, particularly for birders, with the Cotswold Falconry Centre at the Batsford Arboretum, geese and swans at Slimbridge Wetland Centre, and Birdland Park and Gardens in Bourton-on-the-Water where twitchers can see rare birds from around the world, including England’s only group of king penguins. Finally, take a day or two in the ancient Forest of Dean (Harry Potter and co ended up here too), one of the oldest woodlands in the country, to go underground at the old mines of the Clearwell Caves, hire a bike to hit the forest tracks, or, more relaxingly, take the four and a half mile trip from Lydney to Parkend on the Dean Forest Railway.
