  • Adults-only park a couple of minutes' drive from the M5
  • Use as an overnight stopover or as a base for Cheltenham or Gloucester
  • Landscaped with mature shrubs, hedges and trees
Apart from a possible pitch on a tower block in the middle of a city, Briarfields Touring Park might be the most ‘leave your car at home’ site we’ve seen yet. Ditch the diesel guzzler or leave the motorhome on site and hitch a ride on one of the regular buses that pass right outside, leading to days’ worth of days out at Cheltenham (two miles away), Gloucester (six miles), Oxford, the Forest of Dean and the Cotswolds. And if you’re getting around under your own steam, the friendly family team at Briarfields can pick you up from local public transport when you arrive. Even on your own feet you’ll reach most of what you need quickly from the park: a pub and a newsagent are within a few minutes’ walk; an Indian restaurant, KFC and supermarket less than 15 minutes – and a caravan sales and spares dealership is a mile and a half away, just in case. Although Briarfields is only a couple of minutes from the M5 (it’s often used by guests on their way north or south as an overnight stopover), it’s been rather cleverly designed so you can think you’re slap bang in the middle of the countryside: the landscaped and the accommodation areas are edged throughout with mature shrubs, hedges and trees. Amenities are equally well looked after: the centrally placed amenities block is cleaned twice a day and has free hot showers for ladies, gents and disabled guests. Swing into reception when you arrive at Briarfields for reams of info, leaflets and maps on the many (many) things to do a bus ride away: buses run every ten minutes during the day and every 20 minutes in the evening to both Cheltenham and Gloucester, and another service to Oxford will give explorers about six hours in the city before heading back to Cheltenham. Briarfields is open all year round and is dog-friendly.

What customers say

This adults-only site is exceptionally clean, well-maintained, and conveniently located near the M5, Cheltenham, and Gloucester, with frequent bus services right outside. Visitors praise the immaculate, modern toilet and shower facilities, spacious and level pitches often with privacy hedges, and the friendly, helpful staff. While some note occasional traffic or aircraft noise due to the location, most found it unobtrusive. Free WiFi is available and generally works well. It's highly recommended for stopovers or exploring the area.

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked Lovely quiet site, really handy for a couple of local places to eat and Asda nearby for any items.

Lovely lady greeted me and gave me the site layout map with my pitch number on and wi-fi code. Lots of local information on the reception.

Site is secure with number plate recognition barriers.

Nice level pitch and very quiet despite what seemed to be a busy road at the back when I pulled in.

The shower and toilet block facilities were excellent and spotlessly clean.

Asda etc within walking distance, KFC and a couple of other shops.

A real credit to the owners and another site I would definitely visit again.

Thank you.

Disliked Nothing to dislike what a fantastic site this is.

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked The location is well-presented, with modern facilities in the centre of the park. A peaceful, adult-only site with a gated dog exercise area. Local parks and businesses are both within walking distance. Cheltenham is easily accessible via cycle paths. The staff were friendly. Quiet hours are from 10 p.m. to 8 a.m. ANPR access with height limits during quiet hours. Wi-Fi was a bonus.

We used the site as a base camp as we explored the Cotswolds and Forest of Dean.

Disliked * Pitches are small and closely placed, but privacy has been maintained through clear guidance on each pitch layout.
* You can occasionally hear noise from the adjacent A40, as well as small planes flying into and out of Gloucestershire Airport. This is not a fault of the site itself, but it should be noted while booking.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Dear Simon,

Thank you very much for your detailed review and for highlighting so many aspects of your stay. We’re delighted you enjoyed the peaceful atmosphere, modern facilities, and dog exercise area, and that the location worked well as a base for exploring both the Cotswolds and the Forest of Dean.

We also appreciate your constructive feedback. Our pitches are designed to make the most of the space within the park while still maintaining privacy, and your comments are really helpful as we continue to look at ways to improve the guest experience. It’s also useful of you to mention the nearby A40 and airport, as you say, these are outside our control but good for future guests to be aware of.

It’s lovely to hear that you found our staff friendly and the facilities well-presented. We hope to have the pleasure of welcoming you back again.

The Beeches fully-serviced grass and gravel motorhome pitch

Liked Cleaness flowers wooden bear fox ect

Disliked Being on pitch B2 it was behind the washroom for dishes and toilets it’s very noisey and people have to walk passed constantly for washing up area or toilets and showers not much privacy being there

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Dear Mark,

Thank you very much for taking the time to share your feedback. Both positive and constructive comments are always welcome, as they help us improve what we offer. We’re so pleased you enjoyed the cleanliness, flowers, and little touches around the site.

I’m very sorry to hear that Pitch B2 did not suit your needs. It is one of our most popular pitches due to its location close to the facilities, but I completely understand how this may have felt less private for you. I do wish you had come to reception during your stay, as we would have been more than happy to offer you an alternative pitch.

We planted hedging around The Beeches last winter to create more privacy, though sadly much of it has struggled with the lack of rain since March. We will continue working on ways to improve screening, and it’s always helpful if guests let us know their preferences in the “special instructions” when booking, so we can do our best to meet them.

Thank you again for your valuable feedback, and we wish you all the very best for your future travels.

Warm Regards,
Jo and the Team

Local attractions

Well. Where do we start? At least a day in Cheltenham first, we think – more if you’re coming to have a flutter at the racecourse just four miles away or jazzing it up at one of the many festivals. Catch the bus early to take in as much as poss: a morning coveting the art, furniture, crafts and jewellery at Cheltenham Art Gallery and Museum, many created by Cotswold craftspeople inspired by William Morris, should build up an appetite for lunch and an afternoon of shopping around The Brewery, Bath Road and in the well-lined High Street. Harry Potter fans and the history-inclined will likely want an hour or two at medieval Gloucester Cathedral, used in the first and second films (see if you recognise the Cloisters). Away from Hogwarts, the cathedral has an award-winning exhibition centre, exhibitions and guided tours, and regular events and concerts including The Three Choirs Festival, one of the oldest classical choral music festivals in the world. The Gloucester Docks and award-winning Waterways Museum is also a good afternoon out for heritage fans, while the more modern can find plenty to occupy them at the waterside retail park Gloucester Quays. Plunge into the countryside next for a couple of days in the Cotswolds, where you’ll find acres of things to do whatever your inclination such as punting around local villages like Chipping Camden and Bourton-on-the-Water, or visiting the many museums ranging from Roman to motoring times. Wildlife options abound too, particularly for birders, with the Cotswold Falconry Centre at the Batsford Arboretum, geese and swans at Slimbridge Wetland Centre, and Birdland Park and Gardens in Bourton-on-the-Water where twitchers can see rare birds from around the world, including England’s only group of king penguins. Finally, take a day or two in the ancient Forest of Dean (Harry Potter and co ended up here too), one of the oldest woodlands in the country, to go underground at the old mines of the Clearwell Caves, hire a bike to hit the forest tracks, or, more relaxingly, take the four and a half mile trip from Lydney to Parkend on the Dean Forest Railway.
