What customers say

A small, friendly campsite located behind a country pub, praised for its welcoming staff, excellent food, and convenient location for walks. Facilities include toilets and showers in a static caravan and a useful honesty shop. While some mention slight road noise, most visitors found it a good value, basic site perfect for stopovers and exploring the Peak District, with many expressing a desire to return.

Non-electric hardstanding and grass pitch

Liked The staff in the pub were really friendly and helpful. We had take out pizza and chips which was delicious and the food in the pub looked great. It had everything we needed for a one night stay including toilets in the static caravan or access to the toilets in the pub with a key code.

Disliked The road noise during the night but that can’t be remedied by the owners.
We stayed on a Friday night which meant the pub was busy and the customers outside were really loud.
The static toilets/shower could do with a revamp.

Non-electric hardstanding and grass pitch

Liked Received a nice welcoming text from Fiona which said all the important information and showed clear communication. No issues sleeping over 1 night in August 2025. It is a very small pitch which is as advertised, although the pictures looked a little bigger to me than they do when you're actually there. But it fit the purpose and had good facilities (drinking water on tap, toilets, showers and wifi.)

Disliked Personally we might like a bigger campsite with more space next time but that's just preference

Non-electric hardstanding and grass pitch

Liked Great spot, lots of footpaths cutting through the hills originating very close to the campsite. Great area for motorcycling either on road or off-road. Pub food was excellent so there was no need to cook ourselves. Clean and tidy. On site shop was well stocked.

Disliked My own fault, use postcode to find the Devonshire Arms as there are a few with same name. I ended up at, Hartington on the first attempt, and im not the only one according to the bar staff.

Non-electric hardstanding and grass pitch

Liked Small pitch right next to the pub in a perfect location in the Peaks. Staff are also friendly and welcoming... our group met camping here and have come back for a reunion for the last 2 years running 😊

The honestly shop is really well stocked also and a great little initiative

Disliked The worst bit is the night time loos - that would be the only improvement which could possibly be made. Having said this all of the likes above outweigh the minus point and we still love our annual visit 😊

Liked Nice quiet area

Disliked The toilet and shower in the static caravan was feisty, mold on the blinds and smelt badly.

The food was overpriced and the meal was terrible.

Local attractions

Keen to give your boots or bike a workout? You’ve come to the right spot – from the pub it’s an easy jaunt to Mam Tor (10 minutes’ drive), the Monsal Trail (15 minutes) or Stanage Edge (25 minutes). You might like to stop in for a dip at the open-air pool in Hathersage (20 minutes) at the end too. There are many fine views to see around here – and some equally great sights to be seen below ground if you head to Poole’s Cavern & Buxton Country Park (15 minutes) or up to Castleton (10 minutes) to visit Speedwell Cavern and Blue John Cavern. Back up on the surface, get a hit of history at Eyam (10 minutes), the village that sealed itself off from the world during the Bubonic Plague of 1665. Away from all the rural attractions, take some town time at the opera house, gallery and museum in Buxton (15 minutes) or fuelling up at the pudding shops of Bakewell (20 minutes). The excellent Chatsworth House (25 minutes) should be on the schedule too, for the farm shop and playground as well as the house and gardens.
