Springwood Fisheries: Pods over the lake

General

  • Coarse fishery, camping and glamping in the National Forest
  • A short drive from Donington Park
  • Less than a mile from Calke Abbey

Yes, there's fishing available at this site. Quite a bit of it, in fact: one elated angler staying at Springwood Fisheries bagged over a hundred specimens in a tiddling two days...

Not an avid angler? There's a fair bit to do anyway around this friendly Derbyshire site, as it's on the edge of the National Forest and is a cracking base for a decent bagful of local attractions: Calke Abbey, for example, is less than a mile away and the racing circuit of Donington Park within about 10 to 15 minutes' drive.

All guests have access to the site facilities of toilets and showers, a water station, chemical waste and refuse disposal. A café on site serves snacks and hot and cold drinks; Ashby-de-la-Zouch and Melbourne village are close by for other supplies.

The angling at Springwood Fisheries is of the coarse variety, on two lakes brimming with common, ghost and mirror carp, crucians, ide, chub, tench, roach, rudd, perch and barbel, and is charged per day ticket.

Finally, please note that while older children are welcome at Springwood Fisheries, the nature and layout of the site means there's limited space to play: ball games and bikes are therefore not allowed.

Pleasant location, ideal foe Calke Abbey

    Disliked:

After payment on arrival, advised that showers on touring site out of action due to shower being left running for two days! Hygiene / cleaning onsite is clearly inadequate.

From the manager...

A customer caused the damage to the toilet block I could not repair replace it in 24 hours as they flooded the whole block

As I explained they were two more showers for you to use before I took payment
Sorry a small walk to the usable shower block was an inconvenience to you I could have moved you closer to the Woking showers if you had requested it

Kind regards

Nice scenery, good location, easy to access

    Disliked:

On check in we were given the wrong pitch so had to move across, shower nearby was broken so had to use another across site which was always busy, noisy as under a flight path for East Midlands, the managers had a dog which just free roamed the site (friendly but a surprise to have a dog walk into your tent!), next door neighbour (long term tenant) was out but their alarm went off constantly at 6am on the last day we just left at 8am very tired! No shop on site (had to drive into local town). No Wi-Fi found

Absolutely beautiful site, the pod was very clean and tidy when we arrived and well stocked with everything we needed. Easy and swift check in, friendly hosts and beautiful destination.
It was so peaceful and relaxing and my partner had the best weekend of fishing, catching well over 100 fish over our weekend stay. Would definitely recommend and visit again in the future.
