  • Dog-friendly wild camping location in the Peak District National Park
  • A 15-minute drive from Castleton, Bakewell and Ladybower Reservoir
  • Five minutes’ walk from the local pub, with shops a short drive away
Pining for a Peak District break that’s quiet and without all the extra frills? Look no further than Newlands Farm in a rural patch 15 minutes’ drive from Bakewell and Castleton. This is a fine spot for all things walking and exploring… excellent walks in the surrounding area include the walk over Bradwell Edge from Bradwell village (five minutes’ drive), Monsal Head (10 minutes), Mam Tor (15 minutes for the trailhead in Castleton) and Kinder Scout (20 minutes to the trailhead in Edale), among others. When it’s tasty eats that you’re wanting to track down, the site sits on a footpath that gets to the local pub in around five minutes. For shops, bakeries, cafés, fish and chips and more pubs, the villages of Tideswell and Bradwell are both five minutes’ drive away too. Eyam (10 minutes) and Castleton (15 minutes) have more on that front too. That’s not all that’s handy. Back at your base, there's running water and a portable toilet is provided. Cars aren’t able to access the site, but parking is provided within close proximity to the site. With such excellent walks close at hand and a peaceful Peak District location, it’s natural that the dog owners among you might want to share all that with your canine companion. Handily, well-behaved dogs are also welcome (at a maximum of two dogs per pitch) – just be careful that they’re under your control at all times due to the livestock and wildlife around this countryside location.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked: My first campsite fell through. Got online and found this one last minute. Easy to book, find and coordinate with the landowners. Beautiful setting & great location w a pub a VERY short walk but site felt very remote...I appreciate that. Port-a-potty available & clear notice of no showers. It was my very first experience of camping. First time finding a place, pitching my tent and sleeping in it. This location was excellent as we're the hosts.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked: Great campsite for the price. Host was really nice went above and beyond for us as we forget our air bed pump and she let us borrow hers, which saved us a trip to the shop. Fairly easy to find and easy layout follow the cones and just find a available spot.

Disliked: Toilet wasn't clean when I used them but did see them getting cleaned in morning.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked: The location was good and i expect out of peak season would feel more like wild camping. Other campers were fairly respectful of noise other than the odd slam of a car door and swearing. I'd return out of season as other reviews seemed to say how quiet the site was!

Disliked: Advertised families only but 80% of the people on the site were same sex bookings of 2 people. A large group of lads turned up but camped through a camp in the wall? So whether or not they had book via this site is unknown. Whoch didn't please the poor family stuck near them as music was then blaring. The campsite description said you can arrive between 12 and 9pm which for families i think is late as we still had campers arriving at 9pm and setting up, which can be a noisy process whether meaning to or not. I think this time should be reduced to latest of 7pm, seeing as its a family friendly site where most young children are in bed by 7.30pm. As a family with young children we prioritised the specifics such as families only when booking as we've stayed at numerous sites with D of E's and large groups which is never a good idea. But this site seemed to tick all the boxes, its just a shame about the timings of arrivals and the fact that despite descriptions it seems the site wavered on these specifics when filling up the site. It also said this site can hold between 11 and 25 pitches if i recall correctly, i would recommend this to be reduced to a maximum of 11! We had 15 pitches on the site and felt incredibly over crowded by the time check in had ended people were not much further than 10 feet away from the next pitch not through lack of trying to distance! This to me isn't wild camping. I mean the whole process of a wall concealed field with a portaloo isn't wild camping anyway but for Englands strict legalities on wild camping we have to make do unless the trip to dartmoor. That all being said the owners were friendly. Over priced in my opinion for 1 night in a field with minimal effort from the owner other than to collect the rest of your money.

From the manager: Thankyou for your feedback. We aren’t families only but are family friendly. We only sell upto 20 pitches and within the 5 acres you get I am more than happy that is enough space for everyone however I will be sure in future to take extra care that people spread out. I’m not sure what other effort I could put in other than being polite on check in and collecting the remaining monies and making sure the toilet is clean for your stay I can do? Thanks again.
