  • Dog-friendly wild-camping site in the Peak District National Park
  • Eyam 10 minutes’ drive; Chatsworth House 25 minutes
  • Five minutes’ walk from the local pub, with shops a short drive away
Pining for a Peak District break that’s quiet and without all the extra frills? Look no further than Newlands Farm, in a rural patch 15 minutes’ drive from the market town of Bakewell. This is a fine spot for all things walking and exploring… Excellent hikes in the area include the walk over Bradwell Edge from Bradwell village (five minutes’ drive), Monsal Head (10 minutes), Mam Tor (15 minutes for the trailhead in Castleton) and Kinder Scout (20 minutes to the trailhead in Edale). When you want to track down tasty eats, Newlands Farm is on a footpath that gets you to the local pub in around five minutes. For shops, bakeries, cafés, fish and chips and more pubs, the villages of Tideswell and Bradwell are both five minutes’ drive away. Eyam (10 minutes) and Castleton (15 minutes) also have more on those fronts. Back at your base, there’s running water and a portable toilet, and cars can be parked right next to the pitch. During lambing season (which is usually from May to June), families can arrange with the site owner for their kids to feed and pet the resident Cade lambs. With such excellent walks close at hand and peaceful Peak District setting, it’s natural that the dog owners among you might want to share all that with your canine companion. Handily, well-behaved dogs are welcome (at a maximum of two dogs per pitch) – just be careful that they’re under your control at all times due to the livestock and wildlife around this countryside location.

What customers say

This tranquil site offers great views and a relaxed vibe. Guests love the clean, basic facilities and friendly hosts. It's perfect for exploring the Peak District, with a pub nearby. Some noted sloped pitches and occasional noise, but hosts manage rule-breakers. Highly recommended for a natural, affordable getaway.

Primitive grass campervan campsite

Liked Beautiful campsite with amazing views. 5 min walk to the pub with lots of walks in the surrounding area. One of, if not THE best site we've ever stayed at. Pitch sizes are unlimited, lots of choice for everyone. We stayed on a bank holiday weekend and had a peaceful and pleasant stay. We would 100% return.

Disliked Nothing!

Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked Great no frills site. Lots of space. Excellent pub 5 minutes away
Two toilets available which were cleaned regularly
Easy check in- just phone and then go and pitch up where there is space
Excellent campers…all was quiet at 22:00
Really good location and excellent views

Disliked Sloping field so difficult to find a spot for a tent box. This is clear in the reviews but just flagging for others.

Local attractions

The village of Eyam (10 minutes’ drive) is famed for its willingness to self-quarantine at the start of the 1665 plague epidemic. A museum has many exhibits documenting life, illness and death from that time, as well as a collection of local fossils and prehistoric artifacts – from flint tools, to pottery shards. A stately mansion overlooking the River Derwent, Chatsworth House (25 minutes) dates from the late 17th century. Its interiors are predictably spectacular, with highlights including the Painted Hall, with a grand staircase and a gallery with gilded balconies. As well as a rose garden and areas of woodland, the grounds have a maze and a playground. Fishing, cycling and watersports are just some of the activities at Derwent Reservoir (25 minutes). A walking trail skirts the water between the Derwent Dam and the Howden Dam, leading past scenic viewpoints of the lake.
