  • Back to basics Peak District site with a view over Millers Dale
  • A mile to the Monsal Trail; 15 minutes' drive to Buxton and Bakewell
  • Farm shop and café on site; firepits available to hire
Bunk up in a barn at Beltonville Farm for a brill time in the White Peak part of the Peak District – this site’s just a mile from the Monsal Trail and therefore splendidly placed for a strolling, cycling or horse-riding holiday in Derbyshire. When you’re not tottering along this disused railway line transformed into a pretty path, soak up the views over Miller’s Dale; the park is in an elevated position looking out across this Site of Special Scientific Interest’s rock-studded landscape. Chillout sessions are of course boosted by having nosh to chomp on, so drop by the farm shop on site before dusk to pick up bits and bobs such as local veg. The site also has its own café, the Cow Shed Café, which is open every day from 9am. There are regular live music events at the on-site café, mostly on weekends, including live bands, tribute acts and karaoke; on these nights only, cask ales, wines, spirits and beer or cider are up for grabs. Rather a meander followed by a meal out? Map your way to one of several local pubs within a three-mile radius instead for supper. This is a back to basics site but it's well maintained and stretches to such luxuries as toilets and showers. There's also a washing-up area and facilities for people with disabilities. Wood can be purchased at the park for the firepit.

Non-electric grass tent pitch (four person)

Liked Great cafe and bar, ran by very friendly staff. Was live music playing during our visit which was a nice addition.

Disliked The shower blocks were quite dirty from people wearing muddy boots, which wasn’t ideal when getting dry. A way to give it a clean pre/post shower would be good.

Non-electric grass tent pitch (six person)

Liked A fantastic location, a great operation and friendly staff.

Disliked It’s a working farm - you’ve got to keep that in mind when it’s not purpose built camping. That said, men’s toilets could do with a refurb. Hot water for washing dishes also ran out one evening. No issue at all - still a fantastic site!

Non-electric grass tent pitch (four person)

Liked Lots of space. Great site for parking up and heading off on the Monsal Trial for a walk. Showers were very clean and with 4mins for £1, it kept the que down. Nice bar on site with live music on Saturday night. High up in the peaks. Very windy when we were there. Ended up teathering the tent to the car.

Disliked Only 1 drinking water tap that I could find working. A long walk away if your in the top field.

Non-electric grass campervan pitch

Liked The toilet block was clean and roomy. The pitches were spacious and had a view of the hills

Disliked It was a very expensive site. The add ins totalled an extra £15 pounds. The site had no electric and the showers were £1 extra. The farmyard was untidy with equipment obscuring the view.

From the manager: Hi there,

Thanks for your review, we are glad to hear that you appreciated our views over the Derbyshire Dales. In terms of the add ons mentioned, I presume this refers to our hiring of fire pits, which we advertise at a cost; campers are more than welcome to bring their own at no charge! All of our pitches are named as 'non electric' on Pitchup, and our showers are coin operated due to past misuse, which is all explained on our Pitchup listing and welcome sheet. We try to be as transparent as we can with all of our information prior to booking.

Many thanks,
Beltonville Farm

Local attractions

Squidged between Bakewell and Buxton (15 minutes’ drive from either), Beltonville has a nifty location near two of Derbyshire’s most popular towns. Make a foray to the former for River Wye wanders, passing by the medieval arched stone bridge, and the latter to see around some stunning architecture. Highlights on the heritage trail around Buxton Spa include the Georgian-era crescent, the Roman baths and the cupola-topped Devonshire Dome; for older buildings, the village of Castleton (25 minutes), lying in the lee of Mam Tor, has the Norman ruins of Peveril Castle to peer at. This spot’s also the gateway to the Blue John caves, the only places on the planet where the semi-precious Blue John stone can be found. Cast your eye over the largest intact piece ever mined on display at Treak Cliff Cavern (25 minutes), which also has some rather sizable stalactites and stalagmites for geologist types to gaze lovingly upon. Those aiming to give their walking boots a good workout here have plenty of choice: it's well located not just for the Monsal Trail and Millers Dale but also Chee Dale, Tideswell Dale and Winnets Pass.
