What customers say

This is a popular, basic campsite offering a true "wild camping" experience with stunning views. Guests appreciate the freedom to choose pitches, the quiet atmosphere, and the friendly, helpful owners. While facilities are described as basic, they are generally clean and functional, with flushing toilets and a water tap. It's a great base for local walks and is a short drive from Bakewell. Some mention pitches can be sloped and advise bringing own toilet roll and soap.

Non-electric grass tent or motorhome pitch

Liked No check in on arrival, just pitch up anywhere and in his own time the owner comes round to tick you off the list and show you round.
Very basic campsite.
Views are gorgeous.

Disliked Didn’t have the best experience, not to do with the facilities but with another camper parked opposite was not respectful of all around him and was playing with his border collie all evening from 5-10pm and kicking the ball and shouting. My dog was stressed. The signs clearly said please be respectful of others so I think the owner needs to be a bit more strict and do rounds to check.

Non-electric grass tent or motorhome pitch

Liked Beautiful views

Disliked The only thing I didn't like was having to buy firewood and had to wait till about 7pm to get the wood, whereas would have liked to have put the fire on much earlier. Would have liked to have just used my own and have the choice

Non-electric grass tent or motorhome pitch

Liked From booking it was clear what to expect “Wild campsite” which is exactly what we wanted and it was spot on.
We spent two days here, hours walk to Bakewell and lovely walks in Lathkill Valley.
Everyone was very friendly on the campsite and my two children (7&9) had lots of fun climbing the trees and playing on a rope swing.

Disliked If you did more than a couple of nights camping it may be a bit much with the facilities however for us a couple of nights it was spot on.

Local attractions

A Peak District break should always include a visit to Chatsworth House (20 minutes’ drive). This country house has over 25 rooms, including a painted hall and sculpture room, and the grounds are just as splendid – here you can take the kids to meet the pygmy goats in the farmyard, and play at the adventure playground, eat according to the season at the estate’s restaurants or take a buggy tour. Haddon Hall (15 minutes) is another nearby historic house, with a medieval park that can be explored on guided tours. And there’s Matlock (20 minutes) close by too – it was once an ancient spa town and now a gateway for bike rides, hikes and the lot. If staying active is high on your priorities, a visit to the Hathersage Swimming Pool (25 minutes) is the place to practise your backstroke under the open sky. You’re bound to get in some steps around Alton Towers (40 minutes) too, running between rides. Dovedale (30 minutes), of course, is a place for more traditional hikes – the valley is almost three miles long, and there are stepping stones to cross on your way around this scenic stretch of land.
