What customers say
This is a lovely, peaceful campsite with spacious pitches, often by a river, praised for its cleanliness and friendly, helpful staff, particularly Jay. Guests appreciate the natural setting and quiet atmosphere. Facilities are generally described as basic but clean, though some noted a lack of hot water for washing up and a shortage of toilets during peak times. Some visitors mentioned issues with taxi access and signage.

Open fields unlike some other sites.…
Non-electric grass touring pitch
Liked Open fields unlike some other sites. Nice see animals in adjoining fields. Spotted goat; unusual but nice. Very relaxing. Staff very friendly. Portaloo Toilets very deceiptive but they have fully flush system and running cold water. Only 2 toilets and 3 showers. Open air kitchen with fresh but only cold water. Some Campers managed to fish and canoe in the river.
We managed to locate the site easily using Google Maps.
Access to Camp site is through the farm. This may cause confusion. Also large motorhomes have to navigate carefully from access road and through farm to get to camp site.
Disliked Is it value for money when compared to other sites. I've camped at other sites paying £25 per night that included electricity and gas better kitchen and washing facilities with running hot water.

Cheap, laid back vibe, no road…
Non-electric grass touring pitch
Liked Cheap, laid back vibe, no road noise. You can choose your own pitch. Just turn up and pitch up as long as you have booked first. As a solo female traveller, it was nice to see other solo travellers there as well as a nice mix of families. There was a friendly swan which wandered onto the dire from the river which was nice to see.
Disliked I wasn't a fan of the mixed sex toilets. At one point in walked in on a man who was in there and hadn't locked the door. He was also smoking in there which was not pleasant.
Would be nice to have separate washing up sink from where people clean their teeth, and for a campsite this size, I'd hope for more than one sink.
Lastly, not a criticism of the site at all, but when I put the address and just code into Google maps, it took me to a different Home farm in a nearby village. Google maps did not seem to recognise Home farm Thornton, not sure why. In the end I used just the postcode, rather than "Home farm" which worked.

Non-electric grass touring pitch
Liked I have no words to describe how good we felt in this place. When we arrived, we had an incident with our car, and James helped us solve the problem with a camper who was our guardian angel.
The place is perfect for getting away from the noise and the city. If you enjoy wild camping but with basic, well-maintained, and clean equipment, don't hesitate to come.
My family camps around the UK all year round and we've been to over 50 campsites but we've never had a host who treated us with such patience and care.
Thanks James. See you soon.

Lovely Peaceful site by the river
Non-electric grass touring pitch
Liked My view from my microcamper was by the river and I was surrounded by wildlife of butterflies, birds and sheep, it was lovely and peaceful.
The facilities were clean and well kept with portaloos, drinking water and outside showers.
James was friendly and helpful and got about on a quad bike and took all my details.
Has some nice local walks along the cornfields. Had a lovely sunset in the evening.
I thoroughly enjoyed my stay.
Thank you.

Disliked Had a bit of difficulty finding the campsite as the sign said caravanning and camping for members only. It would be helpful to have a sign near to that saying Riverside camping.

Liked The site was lovely! We were greeted on arrival and the farm hand was brilliant. It was peaceful and everything me and my partner needed! The toilets and showers were brilliant too, flushing toilets rather than standard portaloo's. We will be back!

Enjoyed a three day stay, great area.
Non-electric grass touring pitch
Liked CL tucked away through a farm. Great access to river and walks. James was lovely and helpful. Although the facilities look a bit basic they are absolutely fine.
Disliked Lack of signage on entrance, no campsite name. A bit of a tour around, through and past the farm to the actual site. Could just do with some better signage with arrows. Just a bit disconcerting when towing a caravan.
