  • Dog-friendly pitches; animal encounters available; barbecues allowed
Fancy taking a breather from daily life and heading to the Buckinghamshire countryside? Make a beeline for the family-owned Penn Meadow Farm, set in 145 acres of the Chiltern Hills National Landscape, where you can set up camp on a dog-friendly, tree-sheltered meadow with spectacular views over fields and forested valleys. Happy to hang out at the farm? The kids will probably love the chance to meet the resident pigs, sheep (with their lambs in spring) and alpacas, as well as Bobby the border collie. There’s plenty to do in the local area, too, with lots of public footpaths going straight from the pitches, red kites to watch soaring overhead and several golf courses within 20 minutes’ drive. If you feel like a foray into London, Marble Arch is just an hour’s drive away, but when your offspring find out that LEGOLAND® Windsor Resort is just 40 minutes in the car, chances are you’ll have no peace until you take them there. Back on site after your daytime expeditions, you’re welcome to have a small campfire in the evening, and the farm owners can supply wood. Alternatively, the site is five minutes’ stroll from Britain’s oldest free house, the half-timbered Royal Standard of England, where you can sample local ales and enjoy delicious roast dinners.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked: Lovely fields in nice quiet location.
3 Fancy showers with not too much demand. + two portaloos (not sure if any others)
Staff onsite were very friendly on arrival and laid back about where to pitch our tent.
Plenty of space for everyone to spread out.
Nice rural walk to the Royal Standard pub down the road.
Communal kitchen shed with tea and coffee etc, Kettle and stove. With washing up area behind.
Glamping belltents for people who want pre erected options.
Can see wildlife like Red Kites
Farmers field next to us had Pigs and goats.

Would happily stay again.

Disliked: Could do with a few more water points.

We could only get cold water at the washing up sink but we solved that by boiling the kettle in the little communal kitchen.

Unfortunately a rather noisy family of football fans spoilt it by being selfish and loud throughout the night on the Saturday but this isn't the campsites fault.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked: Lovely location, it feels very rural when actually you are surrounded by busy Bucks but it’s all hidden by hills. It’s a very short walk to the Royal Standard pub which was charming.

Disliked: You already know the plumbed facilities are limited; it is what it is; this should not stop you staying here! Unrelatedly, it was very difficult to get pegs more than 3 inches into the ground due to stones but such is life.

From the manager: Thank you so much for taking time to leave a review it means so much to our team who really love what they do. It is so beautiful and like you say it feels so much more rural than it is. Thank you for also understanding about the limitations we have on adding more facilities, we are working on this as fat a the council allows.

Beautiful scenery at this campsite, great, clean facilities.

Liked: A beautiful camp site, the children made lots of friends and loved making a campfire.
Facilities were great and kept clean, including showers, portaloos, washing up area and kitchen area with fridge, kettle, hob and toaster.
We had a fantastic time locally and walked down to the royal standard pub which was only a short walk away from the campsite.
The farm dogs were so lovely and the children really enjoyed playing with them.
Thank you for a restful stay!

Disliked: Difficult to find a flat pitch. Toilet is full and not clean I am not going they next time.

From the manager: Thank you so much for your time, We are indeed in the Chiltern hills as advertised, It is what give our incredible 360 Views, which I can see you have enjoyed. We do have a live in team who clean the toilets, shared kitchen and other areas, throughout the day and work hard, as is reflected in all of our other reviews.

I believe your low score for customer service may be the interactions with our wonderful team working to maintain our family friendly setting with music at reasonable volumes and explicit language not being used towards other campers or staff members. We are so proud to be a hot spot for family's looking for a safe and relaxed place to re engage with nature, something we will continue to maintain.

As the team also requested you not to return, we do we quite agree that you will not be joining us on your next trip. We hope you find a location that can facilitate your needs in the future.

Would highly recommend

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked: Friendly campsite, lovely views, you can pitch where you want. Loved the sheep dogs, such playful characters and we enjoyed visiting the sheep and alpacas. Bank holiday so fairly busy but a large space so still feels spacious.

Disliked: Not much you can dislike, a bit busy if you want a shower in the morning but it was a bank holiday weekend!

Liked: The area. The kitchen area and the visiting food trucks. Also liked the shower facilities although not enough of them.

Disliked: There were not enough showers or toilets. The portaloos were so dirty it was not possible to use them.

We are in an area of outstanding beauty which i can see you enjoyed, this does however limit our ability to build additional facilities as we need to navigate permissions.

Local attractions

Surrounded by ancient woodland, National Trust - Hughenden (20 minutes’ drive) was the country home of Victorian prime minister Benjamin Disraeli and an RAF nerve centre during World War II. Check out the art collection and library inside the red-brick mansion, then take a stroll through the manicured gardens, with their pristinely maintained paths. See how our ancestors (both remote and recent) lived at Chiltern Open Air Museum (20 minutes), where reconstructed historic buildings range from an Iron Age roundhouse with mud walls and a thatched roof, to a 16th-century oak-framed barn, as well as Victorian structures and wartime prefabricated huts. Children will think they’ve hit the jackpot when they realise it’s not just LEGOLAND® Windsor Resort that’s within fairly easy reach from the site, but also Thorpe Park Resort (45 minutes), with its thrill rides (such as Nemesis Inferno, with an inverted vertical loop) and Chessington World of Adventures (one hour), which includes a zoo.
