Lifton, Devon, England
Non-electric grass campervan, tent or trailer tent pitch
Liked I stayed here for two nights and a rest day on a long-distance cycling trip. Rewilding Coombeshead is by far one of the best campsites I've ever stayed at. Kim and the staff are lovely and really look after you. There are options for vans, tents and glamping; a well-equipped campers' kitchen; a barn with sofas, a piano, and games; and the best part is that it the rewilding isn't just a name they have chosen - they genuinely are rewilding the land and native species, and you can book talks and activities, such as going to see the beavers they have rewilded! The site is also in a fantastic location - somewhere you can really relax. I visited just after they had had their annual conference about rewilding and I will definitely be booking to go next year. I will also definitely book this site for a camping trip in the future.

Lyme Regis, Dorset, England
Non-electric grass pitch
Liked We had a lovely stay at Penn Farm in May 2024. The has a lovely feel to it - the camping ground is situated on a farm, close to Lyme Regis. The hosts are very friendly and welcoming. The showers, toilets and washing-up sinks are sizeable and clean. The site could accommodate many more pitches; however, the hosts are sensible and maintain the number of pitches relative to the toilet and shower facilities available, meaning that despite there only being two showers, there is never a queue. There is a very handy charging shed with several plug sockets for you to blow up your camp beds and charge your phone. The site felt very safe and secure and so we left our devices charging for several hours and returned to find them where we left them as we had expected. There is also a fridge and freezer for quests to use - both were very, very clean as if brand new. The views from the lower field are lovely and the site has a rural feel despite being very close to tourist attractions. We would definitely recommend this site and we will return in the future.
Disliked Nothing - the site gets five stars from us!

Electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch
Liked Used the campsite as a base for the motorhome while visiting Edinburgh during the festival season. Located close to the city (35 mins from Hermiston Park & Ride). Friendly welcome and helpful warden on site. Clean facilities. We enjoyed our stay.
Disliked Not an issue as the site was quite a bit cheaper than others around, but campers should be aware that showers require £1 coin per 6-7 minutes. There were slightly too many pitches for the facilities available meaning that there was often a queue, but I wouldn't say this was much of an issue. Play park was central, which is great for those with young children as it means they can be in sight of all pitches, but for those without young children, it was a little on the noisy side.

The Paddock non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch
Liked Stayed on this site for two nights as it was close (30 mins drive) to the Edinburgh park and ride for the Fringe fest. Well located site - close to local amenities but still has a very rural feel on the drive in. Great views of the nearby towns and the fells in the background. Very friendly, helpful host. Site and facilites were very clean and tidy. We enjoyed our stay!
Disliked Lower field for camping was a little water-logged in places because there had been a lot of rain, but you just need to choose your pitch carefully. During drier periods, this won't be a problem.

Tintagel, Cornwall, England
Non-electric grass tent pitch
Liked My friend and I recently enjoyed a week with our children and this site. Great location - close to Tintagel and less than half an hour to Bude, Port Issac and Polzeath (all of which I would recommend). Excellent walks nearby. Great views of the sea from every pitch on the site. Quiet, relaxing and safe. Sally, the host, was very friendly, welcoming and present - checking on the campers each day and making sure the facilities were spotless, especially in the poor weather when they would be likely to becoming muddy and grassy. When the weather was poor and the entrance to the field was at risk of becoming slippery, Sally arranged for it to be sorted before it became a problem, so we were able to get our cars up the slope with ease. I will be using this campsite again in the future and would 100% recommend. Very good value for money.
Disliked Nothing.

Fully-serviced hardstanding touring pitch
Liked Very close to Carlisle (12 mins) but still feels rural. Easy to find. Very friendly staff - family feel. Large, level pitches. Great views. On a working farm so surrounded by animals, which would be lovely for campers with young children. Very clean facilities. Sizeable toilets and shower units with enough space to change comfortably. Great showers. Facilties close to pitches. Helpful signage.

Electric optional grass and gravel touring pitch
Liked Lovely location on the river with quiet, private pitches in the ground of a chateau. Friendly staff. Great facilities, including a tennis court. Shower block was clean and tidy.
Disliked Not an issue but guests should be aware that arrival must be before 7pm. I turned up at 7.15pm and the chateau was shut. The owners had left a number for emergencies on the door, which I called and they came straight down.
