A nice site, pity about the traffic noise!

Jul 2026

Liked Very clean and pretty toilet and shower facilities, including a few spare tolietries if forgotten your own. At night the site is lit with multi-coloured solar lights. Given a file of useful information about local amenities, walks etc, to keep for the duration of our stay.

Disliked The road noise from the A38. Almost constant, even during the night. Made sleeping very difficult - as did the heat! A bit tight driving to and from the pitch, careful to avoid decorative stones & solar lights.

Looking dated now

Aug 2022

Liked A bumper crop of blackberries & apples (also damsons but we didn't get any) ripe for the picking! Quiet site most of the time.Spacious pitch, clean facilities. Convenient location from the A1. Very reasonable site fees.

Disliked Dated facilities, need an upgrade. Only 1 washing up sink, outside, no space for dried plates etc, sink can be full of dead (or living!) insects. No recycling facilities. If want to use the washing machine/tumble dryer, have to ask, as the laundry room is kept locked & has become the owner's personal laundry room. Didn't bother with Wifi as it's £2.50 per day. On my PAYG phone I can get 50MB for £1 per day, so I made do with that.

A lovely site, would be happy to stay again

Aug 2019

Liked Clean facilities, friendly staff, both water & drainage available on our pitch. Also appreciated the information shed, with books & DVDs to borrow & exchange. We did both!

Disliked Bit of a trek to the gazebo which was the only place where the free wifi was available, but once there it was comfortable seating & pleasant surroundings. There was a lot of road noise (only drowned out by the occasions of heavy rain on the caravan roof!) but this didn't really bother us.

From the manager: Thank you for your lovely comment really glad you enjoyed your stay despite the weather. Look forward to seeing you again

Very peaceful, very clean site, just what we wanted

Jun 2019

Liked Very peaceful, clean & tidy site. As it was midweek there were hardly any other caravanners staying, so virtually had the facilities to ourselves. Electric gate entry via a keypad. Had a chicken visit our pitch shortly after arrival! Didn't see it after the first day, but we did see a pheasant on site & another bird we couldn't identify that ran very fast! Extraordinary! Takeaway fish & chips available at the nearby Ingram Arms, very reasonable price & sachets of tartare sauce & a slice of lemon included - a nice touch.

Disliked Ineffectual hand dryer in the ladies. Showers in ladies drain slowly, probably due to hair blocking) but mentioned to owner & promised to get the plunger out (again!) Traffic noise didn't really bother us (possible exception was 'Trevor the Revver' doing circuits on his motorbike!. WIFI £2.50 per night or £5.00 for 3 nights. so didn't bother with it. Would have done if it had been free.

A lovely site, would love to visit again.

May 2019

Liked We were in the smaller touring area which seemed to be for mature couples and couples with young children, so quieter than the larger area. In this section, access to the hardstandings didn’t mean crossing the grass. Generous sized pitches. We found it very peaceful! (Frequent trains run alongside the site but didn’t bother us). A giant draughts set was next to the reception area & for those with children, a separate play area seemed popular, as was the 5-a side football pitch opposite. We walked around the fishing lake (nobody fishing at the time) & it was very quiet; just the wind in the trees, the birdsong … and the trains! Part of the nature walk runs parallel to the railway line & there is a picnic table at the end, so trainspotters can enjoy to their heart’s content! We picked this site for a long weekend & not too far from home; it has passed the test & we hope to visit again in the future.

Disliked Didn't appear to have very many toilets & showers for the size of the site, though only had to queue for the showers on the departure day. Wifi was £5 for 2 days (and I think £7 for 5 days) so I didn't bother with it.

A lovely site, so peaceful, tidily presented & all immaculately clean.

Jul 2018

Liked We were given a spacious pitch with its own water tap with a waste water drain, very convenient. The washing up area is at the side of the toilet block, semi undercover, with 4 sinks & drainers; washing up bowls, sponges, j cloths & dish brushes provided for campers to use – very thoughtful. There are 8 sinks, 8 toilet cubicles in the ladies’ & 4 shower cubicles. There is a shower curtain to prevent sprays on the floor, and I liked the fact that a non-slip mat & a hand rail was present in each cubicle (it’s an age thing!) plus a seat & a plastic duck-board in the changing area. Two hooks on the wall, could perhaps have had an extra one, but not really an issue. A baby’s bath was hanging up on the wall in the ladies’ if needed & since our previous visit 12 years ago (when we were in a tent & our children were with us) then the radio is piped into the toilet block – yes, you can sing along as most of the time I had the place to myself! In the laundry room there are 2 washing machines; one looks similar to a domestic front loader & the other is an industrial top loader; both take 3 £1 coins. The industrial dryer takes 20p coins but I didn’t use it so I don’t know how many coins would be required. There is a shed with tourist information & a small freezer for cool blocks (we didn’t use), plus a selection of board games, jigsaw puzzles, books & DVDS. I did a swap of one book I brought from home & took a couple of my other books down there when I’d finished reading them. Another plus is the free WiFi! We were eventually able to walk into The Meadow, for old times’ sake, which is where we camped 12 years ago, but from this season the site is not taking tents at all. The site has new owners since earlier this year (now part of the Haufryn group); it appears that the site is gradually becoming one for statics only. We saw the arrival of 3 new statics, with wooden cladding which looks different to the other statics on site. Another camper told us that these new statics are intended to be put in The Meadow; the gateway will need widening & hardstandings put down etc before that can happen though. Just before we left I asked whether they will continue to take tourers & was told that probably for the next 2 years or so. There is a wooden play area in a dip; Our children played there 12 years ago! However I noticed some poles in front of the area which weren’t there on our arrival, so maybe the play area will be fenced off & reduced in size – more room for statics? We saw plenty of rabbits (just like 12 years ago!) & there are several birds to identify if you are able. I did see a robin! Yes, you can hear the traffic from the nearby A38, but it didn’t bother us – we managed to block it out; we’ve heard worse! We had a lovely, peaceful stay, just the antidote to the stress of a busy life & work, and it helped that the weather was fantastic! There is a community-run, outdoor swimming pool in Chudleigh, which is only a car ride away. I was able to swim 40 lengths x 20m there & it wasn’t too busy either - £4 admission. If you are looking for a site with lots of entertainment provided, a clubhouse etc, then this site is not for you. Don’t come here – leave it for people like us who loathe the sort of site you’re looking for!

A lovely weekend break! Level pitch & clean facilities.

Liked Peaceful, relaxing stay, clean facilities, friendly owners.

Disliked Not too keen on other campers' children running around between pitches; parental responsibility to teach respect for others' pitches.

A lovely site, friendly staff & welcoming

Apr 2018

Liked Private sink cubicles as well as showers. Lots of hooks for hanging items in showers & sink cubicles. Very peaceful site, clean & tidy. Level pitches & a good size.

Disliked WiFi wasn't free, but at least lasted for 24 hours, from the time you accessed it. A different site we stayed at it expired at midnight, regardless if when you started it.
