Holmans Wood Holiday Park: Well laid out site, with trees and flowers around the pitches

General

  • Award-winning and friendly park in south Devon
  • Spotlessly clean amenities; buses outside to Exeter and Newton Abbot
  • Covering 12 acres among hills and hedgerows, a mile from Chudleigh

'Easy to get to and easy to explore from' is the main theme at award-winning and family-run Holmans Wood Holiday Park – it has easy access to the A38, is a mile from ancient market town Chudleigh, and has buses stopping outside on their way to Exeter, Newton Abbot and from there the whole of the south west.

Friendly and accommodating Holmans Wood is a 12-acre site among south Devon green hills and hedgerows, and a wild woodland walk.

It has immaculately-kept toilet and washroom facilities with free constant hot water, a fully-equipped launderette, picnic tables and an undercover washing-up area.

A well-stocked shop is five minutes' walk away.

Please note

Tents are not accepted at this park.

No electric for one cold night with no on-call electrician which was a surprise for a site of this size. An apology wouldn't have gone amiss from the staff for inconvenience caused.

The site was very nice, clean toilets although showers still closed, but that was fine. Pitches are nice and big, dog walking areas very good, a good garage with shop just up the road. We arrived quite early, but no problem pitch was ready and waiting. We did leave a day early but that was our choice, bad weather was coming in and by the time we got our awning down and packed away we thought we might as well go home, husband worried about the wind while towing. Would recommend and return again.

    Disliked:

We had a power cut on our 3rd evening about 7.30 pm, realised it was the whole area we were in, so we went to bed early but got up with no power in the morning still, eventually came on again about 9.30 am, by then we were packing up for home. It would not put us off returning, power cuts happen.

    Disliked:

We were given a basic pitch but we paid for a premier pitch and on querying this the office said they had to get intouch with head office for an £8 refund!!. The touring site was tired and on talking to a staff member they intend to get rid of the touring side and just have the very expensive mobile homes.

Have stayed here a few times as love the easy bus ride to Exeter.
The site is as always clean and well maintained, we had a service pitch for our motorhome so electrics and water fill up/drainage all very easy.
The site is very quiet and secure with helpful and friendly staff, highly recommend!
Not able to use showers due to covid restrictions but from previous trips all were very clean.

Quiet clean park. Toilet blocks were clean and barely used. Obviously showers not in use re covid but looked nice shower block.
Ideally located for short drive to Haldon Forest and Dartmoor and beyond. Chudleigh with all amenities was very close by and probably walkable if happy to walk next to main road. Site is not particularly geared for kids but seemed to be no issues with my boys riding around on their bikes exploring.

    Disliked:

Road noise at night might bother some people.
Fully serviced pitch was laid out weirdly as grey water drain was at the front of the pitch, no where near caravan outlet so had to purchase waste water boy.
Very tight pitches to get caravan on. Thankfully no one staying on pitches opposite as we wouldn't have got on or off!
Advertised woodland walk is a very short walk between two hedges but boys enjoyed the stepping stone logs for a few minutes. (Walk not so interesting to two farm boys spoilt by West Dorset countryside 😉)

Really great, clean toilet facilities with hand sanitiser to use before and after entry. Obviously currently the showers are out of bounds due to Covid restrictions. There are laundry facilities and the fully serviced pitches were all problem free and nice and level.
It's a great place to stay if you want to go exploring different areas as it's very near the dual carriageway - giving easy access to many routes.
There's a sweet little dog walking woodland trail which is a nice touch.

    Disliked:

Apart from some very sweet country lanes with the most amazing cottages and gardens to look at - there isn't an awful lot to visit on foot from here.

Local attractions

The position of Holmans Wood Holiday Park near the A38 means it's conveniently placed for piles of south Devon things to see and do as well as many holiday resorts and seaside towns. Both Exeter and Newton Abbot are easily reached by the buses that stop on request outside the park.

Sandy beaches are at Dawlish, Paignton, Shaldon and Teignmouth; see also the old fishing village of Brixham, Torquay and its Kents Cavern, and popular Devon attractions like Paignton Zoo and Living Coasts.

Inland, have a day or two in Dartmoor, starting off at its gateway Bovey Tracey (home of the House of Marbles) and winding up at well-known village Widdecombe-in-the-Moor in Dartmoor's heart. Nearby Haldon Forest has 3500 acres of woods with walking, cycling and butterfly trails.

A day on the South Devon Railway, the longest railway in the south west, will take you along the River Dart valley from Buckfastleigh and Totnes among steamingly spectacular scenery; hop off at any stop to see more and make time for the museum at Buckfastleigh before setting off.

More very vintage Devon can be seen at Canonteign Falls, Powderham Castle and many historic houses and gardens, or take the kids along to a day they'll remember at Go Ape, Pennywell Farm or the Crealy Great Adventure Park in Exeter.

Must see

  • Exeter Cathedral - Church of Saint Peter (7.5 miles)
  • Crealy Great Adventure Park (9.5 miles)
  • Castle Drogo (11.4 miles)

National Trust

  • A la Ronde (7.9 miles)
