  • Spacious family-owned site in the Cotswolds
  • Five minutes' drive from Cirencester and 25 from Cheltenham
  • A 15-minute drive from Bibury and the start of the Thames Path
A getaway full of fab scenery, peaceful wanders and historical streetscapes… and bringing the dog along for the journey? It’s a cinch at Mayfield Park, a family-friendly and family-owned Gloucestershire site five minutes’ drive from the market town of Cirencester and the pretty village of Bibury. This is a top spot to use as a base for explores of the spectacular Cotswolds. Overlooking the Churn valley, the site has easy access to plenty of local walks and scenic villages – just ask in reception for recommendations – and the long-distance Thames Path (so long it’ll take ramblers all the way to London) starts about 15 minutes’ drive away for lengthy treks. Exploring without needing to use feet or pedals is simple round here too: the bus route for Cirencester and Cheltenham passes the site and there’s a stop about 100 feet from the entrance; otherwise pile everyone into the car for the five-minute ride to Cirencester or the 25-minute canter to Cheltenham. Be sure to head back to the site in time to catch the sun setting over the fields, then settle in for an evening of barbecues as canine pals stretch out in the grass. Want a break from cooking? Sniff out one of the local pubs serving local eats to get a taste of Gloucestershire.

Electric grass pitch (sloping)

Liked: Absolutely awful site the showers are a joke you may get 30 seconds of like warm water then cold while you keep pushing the button hopeless, the 2 male staff members tell how to park you van and apparently according to the one joker you have to face up the slopey pitch or down i was told I couldn't park parallel to the sunset what an idiot he was I didn't end up staying and will give them the review the deserve the site is dominated by long term residents that are all just a few feet apart, avoid this place there are so many better sites with sensible staff, honestly it's really crap

Disliked: Everything the staff members especially the one who tells you how to park face up the hill or down total fool

Fully-serviced hardstanding and grass touring pitch

Liked: Good hardstanding space for a winter stopover. Very clean toilet and shower block. Electric hook up used. Well kept tidy site. Friendly welcome. Dog field. Perfect site for an overnight stay...we were on our way to stay with friends. We visited Crickley Hill and Stow on the Wold.

Disliked: There is traffic noise from the nearby A road, but we could see it on the map and it didn't deter us for a one night stay.

Non-electric grass pitch (sloping)

Liked: The warden Kevin very polite and friendly great customer service skills very hard working warden come out after hours to help us with the washing machine

Disliked: On arrival the barrier intercom was broke so the receptionist couldn't hear what we were saying and had to repeat ourselves they said it has been an ongoing issue Kevin told us to park outside reception and go in to be allocated our pitch upon getting out of the car another warden come running towards us and rudely asked My husband is this car a hire car or a company car before my husband had a chance to answer he looked at me and said does he understand English my husband is black and I'm white he was being racist , as we are in a company car we had to park in a car park when we spoke to the lady in reception she was very helpful and allocated us a pitch close to the car we then asked where the toilet was as we had been travelling he told us to go to reception and check in then we could use the toilet in an hour as was closed for maintenance and he very rudely demanded we get in the car so he can show us to our pitch which is on the top field very far from the toilet block we walked straight back down to wait to use the toilet and were then shown after watching him for 5 minutes walk up and down to look busy to a family room where there is a toilet that was open the whole time and we could have used when we first arrived this felt like a punishment his attitude towards paying customers is disgusting he shouldn't be doing this job he clearly has no customer service skills as well as being racist the owner spoke to my husband and gave him a few pound for the dryer as the washing machine didn't spin on a wash and flashed up out of order so clothes come out full of water

We spoke to a few people who stay on the site and they were very friendly nice to have met them

Liked: Really friendly welcoming staff at the site, pitch for the campervan was pretty level with all EHU and water. We dropped on an organized bonfire with fireworks at this site, with baked potatoes and non alcoholic mulled wine thrown in, all for free!
Site showers and toilets are good, clean, plenty of hot water.
Has a big field area for kids to play safely, also dog friendly with off lead areas fenced off

Disliked: There is some road noise from the nearby dual carriageway

Non-electric grass pitch (sloping)

Liked: Great, flat pitch. Toilet/shower facilities were clean. Welcoming owner and reception sold a few essentials. Playing field with goal posts was great for the kids. We were only staying one night en route to Devon, so really appreciated that single night bookings were accepted.

Disliked: Only slight downside was no WiFi on at the pitches, but there is WiFi near reception.

Local attractions

With Cheltenham racecourse a mere 30 minutes’ drive away, this site is a prime pick for horsey types – but if the gee-gees don’t have the family galloping for joy, there are other four-legged, fleet and feathered options at the Cotswold Wildlife Park and Gardens, also half an hour from base. If the Cotswold Gardens grow enthusiasm for stately houses and grand designs, there’s plenty else hereabouts to entice: Chavenage House, Berkeley Castle, Bowood House, Sudeley Castle, Newark Park and Dyrham Park are all within an hour for old piles, and Westonbirt Arboretum and the gardens at Highgrove (Charlie and Camilla’s royal digs) are definitely worth a turn half an hour away. For more urban explores, start 15 minutes from the site in the scenic village of Bibury to have a poke around the Chedworth Roman Villa, travel on to Bourton-on-the-Water (20 minutes) for Birdland, a maze, a motoring museum and a model village, then take things up a notch in Cirencester, where there are Roman remains, museums, markets, parks and a manor house all waiting for visitors. Keep things soothingly low-key with a spin on the Swindon and Cricklade steam railway, 25 minutes away, or get a bit more active with watersports, paintball, fishing and horse riding at Cotswold Water Park or an adrenaline-fuelled day at the Gloucestershire Rally School, both within 20 minutes.
