Park setting

  • Friendly well-maintained park on the banks of Wooler Water
  • Lounge bar, restaurant and entertainment in peak season
  • A 10-minute uphill walk from the medieval market town of Wooler
Avoid the crowds crawling to the southwest coast and breeze your way to Riverside Leisure Park on the edge of the Northumberland National Park instead… This is a friendly, well-maintained site on the banks of Wooler Water, with plenty to appeal to the whole family: perhaps pottering around the riverbanks and stunning woodland, splashing about in the indoor swimming pool, setting up for a bit of fly fishing, or a few rounds of pool in the games room. The park has good essential amenities, including a lounge bar and restaurant with Sky Sports and BT Sports, a launderette, play area and entertainment over peak season. It's also only 10 minutes' uphill walk away from the centre of Wooler, a medieval market town with restaurants, coffee shops and lots to browse around.

What customers say

Loved for its scenic riverside setting & friendly staff near Wooler. Spacious pitches are a plus. However, outdated restrooms need an update. Some noted tight pitch spacing & amenities across a busy road. Still, good value, many would revisit.

Liked Not a lot.

Disliked Too busy compared with other sites we stayed at. Children tearing round on bikes with no lights. CHILDREN CHASING AND TEASING THE DUCKS WHO HAD DUCKLINGS WITH THEM. Not a site we would visit again. Might have been due to it being Friday night.

Liked Friendly reception staff, good facilities with bar, bar food, sandwich shop, swimming pool, close to Wooler village. Showers and toilets were very clean.

Disliked Only thing I can think of was pitch a little tight, with neighbours both sides, luckily we didn't need awning out.

Liked Location in Northumberland

Disliked Touring pitches flet cramped with not enough space between pitches.
Toilet, shower and dish washing facilities were limited given the number of pitches. 3 showers, 3 toilets 3 washbasins in total. Showers were too hot and temperature could not be changed. The shower ran for 5 seconds, requiring constant pushing of the valve - very old fashioned - and the cubicles were cramped and no seat. For dishwashing there were 2 sink, but one sink was out of action due to hot water tap not working. As for recreational facilties it's the only site I've been to where the pub etc is not located in the actual site, but across the main A697 road some 350 yards from the main reception area and double that if you're further along in the site.

Liked The location of the site, a short walk to the Town.
The ducks and ducklings on the site were lovely to watch.

Disliked Large groups of adults on the site.
Children riding up and down the roads of the caravan park which is apparently not allowed.

Liked Friendly/helpful receptionist; close to town( uphill walk); Bus station beside Bull Hotel to get to Berwick upon Tweed ; ducks & ducklings.

Disliked Small shower cubicles; nothing to mop floor with in shower block; pitches very close together; noise from road; no privacy ( i.e. pitches not separated by hedges very expensive to wash & dry clothes (£9); charge for Wi-Fi.

Recommend to friends Visit again

Local attractions

Trip-trap over the bridge from Riverside Leisure Park to Wooler, a pretty medieval market town with some alluring eateries, pubs and shops, and the ideal starting point for walks into the Cheviot Hills and the Northumberland National Park. Cycling, fishing, golfing and horse riding fans will also find rich pickings nearby. If you haven’t explored the Northumberland coastline before, you’re in for a treat. Expect atmospheric ancient edifices in spectacular surroundings, such as Bamburgh Castle and the Holy Island of Lindisfarne; seaside villages like Seahouses, where you can jump aboard a sea safari boat to the Farne Islands; and miles and miles of nature reserves and wide sandy beaches. You can follow Hadrian’s Wall westbound from its start point in Wallsend, stopping off at Roman forts in scenic settings as you head in the direction of Carlisle; travel along peaceful country roads to explore the Scottish borders; or south to visit Alnwick Castle and the Alnwick Garden, contemporary gardens with one of the world’s biggest treehouses. For city lights, hit the A1 for an easy ride to Newcastle and Gateshead, both buzzing with culture (try the BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Art or a gig at the Sage Concert Hall), museums, football, restaurants, nightlife and shops; or head further north for a day trip to the many-splendoured delights of Edinburgh.
