Acres of private fields for you to camp on at the hop farm
Camping by the woodland
Ehu hardstanding pitch

  • Spacious park spread across 500 acres of Kent countryside
  • Five minutes' drive from Paddock Wood station and trains to London
  • Access to the River Medway for canoeing and fishing
Set in 500 acres of open fields and woodland, The Hop Farm is a huge site with plenty for guests to get stuck into. First of all, the river Medway flows through the park – so arrive by canoe if you like, or stick around on site for fishing and kayaking. Second, it has a friendly on-site pub with a nice and familiar menu full of pub classics. What else is there to like? Well, the site has a stunning backdrop of historic oast houses, the largest collection of Victorian-era oast houses in the world. It's easy to get to, being just a five-minute drive from Paddock Wood station and trains to London. Local shops and amenities are five minutes away by car too. Kent (aka The Garden of England) has many beaches, historic towns, forests, castles and stately homes (and gardens). The very scenic town of Royal Tunbridge Wells is 15 minutes' drive away from The Hop Farm. Tonbridge, a market town with a castle, shops and restaurants, is also 15 minutes away. The on-site facilities include a modern shower and toilet block. Dogs are welcome on site for an additional fee. You're welcome to bring your own barbecues and raised firepits to use here, as long as the ground conditions are good. The on-site shop also rents out firepits and stocks firewood (both are limited, so subject to availability).

What customers say

Vast pitches, river access, and friendly staff get a thumbs up, though facilities can be a trek. Some miss kid's activities and find electric spots tight, with occasional noise.

Liked Quite flat

Disliked No shops near me
Chinese doesn’t do takeaway
Nothing to do

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: There is a local shop 20 minutes walk or 2 minute drive, paddock Wood is less than 3 miles away and for a supermarket like Asda it is about a 15 to 20 minute drive.
When you look to book on Pitch-up we do not advertise as having any entertainment or play park, there are country and river walks from the campsite and the emphasis is on being outdoors enjoying each other’s company.
There are takeaways and restaurants in the area that deliver to the touring barrier, menus on display in the reception/shop.

I would definitely go back but needs more facilities to be a 10/10

Unpowered grass site

Liked Freedom to pitch up wherever you want to.
Location for easy access to river.
Lovely and clean
Fab walks
We stayed on the non electric pitches

Disliked The site needs more toilets and definitely more water points. To have a site that big with only one block of toilets and showers and one water point is really not good

From the manager: Thank you for choosing to stay with us and for taking the time to leave a review.
There are 2 toilet and shower blocks which are located next to each other and 7 water points.
We look forward to welcoming you again.

Unpowered grass site

Liked Large open spaces so you can pitch up away from groups. We stayed in the second field with no hook up so away from the loo block and it was very quiet and peaceful. Plenty of space to get away from everyone else. The electric hook up area was busy.

Also the direct access to the river to allow for paddleboarding was excellent.
Toilets & showers were clean - we initially felt it a little odd that there was security locks with access codes but it wasn’t a problem and probably stopped a lot of messing around.
The lady who checked around the site each day was super nice and friendly.

Disliked The man at check in didn’t ooze friendliness and welcoming vibes which was a bit disconcerting but it was the evening and he was probably fed up with staying open later!
The lady on the quad bike made up for it!

Tim was the only one checking in over 100 pitches the day you arrived and has a lot to explain especially with the fire ban, he stays in the office until 9pm which is not an issue for him however he is not a talkative person even to his own family but is working on it.
We look forward to seeing you again.

Liked Friendly site

Disliked Showers were awful, very small, unable to put clothes in a dry space, no seat/shelf, just a hook on the door which was hanging off. One block of toilet/showers for all fields. No bins for dog waste and so lots of dog waste on fields. Nowhere to empty water waste. Given wrong information of pitch, had to agree with another guest which pitch we would both use.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: In the larger toilet/shower block there is 1 hook on the inside of the showers for towels (shampoo etc.. would have to be placed on the floor as shelves would reduce the amount of space in them) and 1 hook on the outside to hang clothes or a bag on. The smaller shower block has space inside the cubicle for changing and hanging clothes on. There is a seat in the disabled shower for limited mobility guests.
There are about 10 dog waste bins around the site which get emptied frequently.
The chemical and grey waste is in a separate building with lots of signage right next to the showers and toilets.
You were given C4 (C4 & C5 share the same water tap and is clearly marked on the pitch) your pitch number was written on the front of your check-in card and a map of C field highlighting your pitch and shown where the bridge to the showers and toilets are (in-between pitches C7 & C8). C5 was occupied by regular guests who have used this pitch several times.

Local attractions

Kent has 350 miles of coastline, with watersports and those famous white cliffs at Dover. Whitstable and Herne Bay are popular with oyster eaters, anglers and jetskiers. There are umpteen options for families in the area including play centres, farms, horse riding and days out. Try Howletts Wild Animal Park in Canterbury, home to gorillas and operating experiences for visitors such as junior ranger days. Penshurst Place and Gardens has historical re-enactments, children’s trails, an adventure playground and special events during the school holidays. Both Leeds Castle at Maidstone and Hever Castle near Edenbridge are family-friendly and packed with activities and events. There’s a Go Ape! at Leeds Castle as well as two mazes, boat trips, falconry displays, underground grotto and the Knights' Realm Playground, a scale model of the castle (and a golf course and golf instruction for the grownups). Hever, the childhood home of Anne Boleyn, has a yew maze and water maze, award-winning gardens and a topiary. Back with the big folk, the old market towns of Tonbridge, Maidstone, Sevenoaks and Tonbridge Wells are close by for shopping and sightseeing. Bluewater shopping centre is in Greenhithe (rival Lakewater is just over the Essex border at West Thurrock).
