  • Spacious park spread across 500 acres of Kent countryside
  • Five minutes' drive from Paddock Wood station and trains to London
  • Access to the River Medway for canoeing and fishing
Set in 500 acres of open fields and woodland, The Hop Farm is a huge site with plenty for guests to get stuck into. First of all, the river Medway flows through the park – so arrive by canoe if you like, or stick around on site for fishing and kayaking. Second, it has a friendly on-site pub with a nice and familiar menu full of pub classics. What else is there to like? Well, the site has a stunning backdrop of historic oast houses, the largest collection of Victorian-era oast houses in the world. It's easy to get to, being just a five-minute drive from Paddock Wood station and trains to London. Local shops and amenities are five minutes away by car too. Kent (aka The Garden of England) has many beaches, historic towns, forests, castles and stately homes (and gardens). The very scenic town of Royal Tunbridge Wells is 15 minutes' drive away from The Hop Farm. Tonbridge, a market town with a castle, shops and restaurants, is also 15 minutes away. The on-site facilities include a modern shower and toilet block. Dogs are welcome on site for an additional fee. You're welcome to bring your own barbecues and raised firepits to use here, as long as the ground conditions are good. The on-site shop also rents out firepits and stocks firewood (both are limited, so subject to availability).

What customers say

Spacious fields, great river access for water fun. Facilities clean, staff friendly. Some electric pitches are a bit cosy, and facilities can get busy. Great country walks nearby.

Liked Huge campsites. Big sites. Big river to have fun off.

Disliked Only one utility block in whole campsite

From the manager: Thank you for choosing to stay with us and that you enjoyed yourselves.
We have 2 toilet and shower blocks which are right next to each other, if in one of the outer fields it is advisable to bring a toilet tent especially when dark and if you do not want a long walk or drive to them.
We hope to see you again soon.

Unpowered grass site

Liked Open spaces, plenty of availability at last moment.
Beautiful location.

Disliked • Toilet block a long way away from the furthest camping fields.
• No signposts as to where the river actually is, hard to find, despite being given a map.
• On Sunday morning, there must be a nearby shooting range, we counted over 100 shots being fired by 10.00, which was too loud.
• The nearby pub was hard to find and closed at 7pm on a Saturday night.

From the manager: I am sorry you did not enjoy your 1 night stay.
The non-electric pitches are unmarked and you choose where to stay including near the river when you have checked in. There are a couple of signs and the map does show the entry/exit points to the river which also says No Camping or Parking in this area. Many guests bring toilet tents to be in the further away fields so they do not have to drive to them at night.
The nearby pub (the Brewers Fayre) is opposite the check-in office behind the soon to open Chinese restaurant, had you asked we would have directed you there.

Powered concrete and grass site

Liked Location is ideal for planning trips to London
Large amount of toilets and showers (all very clean)
Pub on site along with a car boot on at the weekends
Plenty of space for kids to ride bikes run around and play

Disliked Found dog mess on the pitch that wasn’t disposed of properly (had been there for a few days)
Lack of space to change when showering
So you have a communal space only to change in !!
Some of the caravan owners where emptying there grey waste at the pitch near to ours

NONE OF THIS IS A REFLECTION ON THE OWNERS

Liked We love this campsite for a lot of the reasons people moan, yes there are two toilet blocks only in the first field, there are seven or 8 fields to choose from we like to pitch away and just enjoy title peace, we spent most of our summer here last year and Oman to do the same, staff are lovely and helpful whilst continuing to provide you space, no harm in cycling or driving to the main shower block, can get dirty after the evening rush which I would class as standard over campsites but generally is kept nice and clean, we enjoy all of the freedom hop farm allows us, little shop and pub on site, perfect for being a bit more off grid, the kids and the dog love it, there’s so much space it never feels busy or cramped

Disliked Nothing really maybe some bins on the extra fields if I had to give an answer

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you for your loyalty in choosing to stay with us and for leaving a lovely review.
Maintenance did put extra bins in Medway and Big Monkton last year, I will ask if they can put them out again.
We look forward to welcoming you again.

Unpowered grass site

Liked Basic price for 2 people in a single camper/tent/caravan is relatively cheap

Disliked Shower and toilet block needed a deep clean and/or make over... They were generally pretty unwelcoming and smelly.
The washing up area was also dirty and their was litter strewn all over the site.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: I am sorry you did not enjoy your 1 night stay.
The toilets and showers have regular cleans, however being toilets and the nature of what they are used for they may be smelly at times. The majority of our guests say how lovely and clean they are which can be seen in many reviews. Our mobile number is printed on the front of every check-in card which is to be used for any issues whilst staying on site.
Maintenance were out on site the day you arrived and left they clear up litter as well as general grass cutting etc. perhaps it was a windy day and a few bits of paper got blown around the field.

Liked Space, so much space! Peaceful and beautiful and did I mention how much space there is!

Disliked Mosquitoes- but that’s not the campsites fault!

From the manager: Thank you for choosing to stay with us and sharing your photos.
I wish there was a way to eliminate the mosquitoes, a campfire helps.
We look forward to welcoming you again.

Local attractions

Kent has 350 miles of coastline, with watersports and those famous white cliffs at Dover. Whitstable and Herne Bay are popular with oyster eaters, anglers and jetskiers. There are umpteen options for families in the area including play centres, farms, horse riding and days out. Try Howletts Wild Animal Park in Canterbury, home to gorillas and operating experiences for visitors such as junior ranger days. Penshurst Place and Gardens has historical re-enactments, children’s trails, an adventure playground and special events during the school holidays. Both Leeds Castle at Maidstone and Hever Castle near Edenbridge are family-friendly and packed with activities and events. There’s a Go Ape! at Leeds Castle as well as two mazes, boat trips, falconry displays, underground grotto and the Knights' Realm Playground, a scale model of the castle (and a golf course and golf instruction for the grownups). Hever, the childhood home of Anne Boleyn, has a yew maze and water maze, award-winning gardens and a topiary. Back with the big folk, the old market towns of Tonbridge, Maidstone, Sevenoaks and Tonbridge Wells are close by for shopping and sightseeing. Bluewater shopping centre is in Greenhithe (rival Lakewater is just over the Essex border at West Thurrock).
