Acres of private fields for you to camp on at the hop farm
Camping by the woodland
Ehu hardstanding pitch

  • Spacious park spread across 500 acres of Kent countryside
  • Five minutes' drive from Paddock Wood station and trains to London
  • Access to the River Medway for canoeing and fishing
Set in 500 acres of open fields and woodland, The Hop Farm is a huge site with plenty for guests to get stuck into. First of all, the river Medway flows through the park – so arrive by canoe if you like, or stick around on site for fishing and kayaking. Second, it has a friendly on-site pub with a nice and familiar menu full of pub classics. What else is there to like? Well, the site has a stunning backdrop of historic oast houses, the largest collection of Victorian-era oast houses in the world. It's easy to get to, being just a five-minute drive from Paddock Wood station and trains to London. Local shops and amenities are five minutes away by car too. Kent (aka The Garden of England) has many beaches, historic towns, forests, castles and stately homes (and gardens). The very scenic town of Royal Tunbridge Wells is 15 minutes' drive away from The Hop Farm. Tonbridge, a market town with a castle, shops and restaurants, is also 15 minutes away. The on-site facilities include a modern shower and toilet block. Dogs are welcome on site for an additional fee. You're welcome to bring your own barbecues and raised firepits to use here, as long as the ground conditions are good. The on-site shop also rents out firepits and stocks firewood (both are limited, so subject to availability).

Generous space and lovely river spot for paddling/walks. Facilities clean, staff friendly. EHU pitches tight, non-electric spacious. Can be noisy, but quieter further out. Great for exploring.

Liked Large fields, freedom of pitch location, loads of space between pitches in the camping pitch

Disliked Large groups playing loud music into early hours of the morning, would not recommend for people seeking relaxing stay or with young children with early bed times

From the manager: I am sorry you did not enjoy your 1 night stay due to noisy campers not adhering to the site rules.
We did a drive around the campsite from 9pm until 1130pm, there was one large group playing music and we asked them to turn the music off and to be respectful of other campers. It would appear that they turned the music back on, had we been called out we would have gone back to them, our mobile number is printed on the front of the cards which everyone is given when checking-in.
This is not a regular occurence and many guests enjoy their stay and return.

Liked The ladies toilet blocks and showers were clean
Nice area and not too busy

Disliked Stated on rules given at check in that there was a 10pm noise curfew. No one enforced this and on the first night we had kids screaming and shouting and flashing torches everywhere at 1am and the next night blasting music until gone midnight.
Also fire pit hire was available but they had no logs so had to go to the local coop to get some instead.
Lack of children’s play area - would be great addition to have a play park somewhere on site.
The men’s facilities were not as well kept as the ladies

Unpowered grass site

Liked The Americas field is a great space for all, being right on the river
All the toilet, shower, washing, rubbish and water facilities are also good

Disliked The unmade road access to the Americas field it disastrous for those vehicles other than off roaders, come on Hop Farm a little gravel to fill in some of those enormous pot holes and roller coaster highs and lows is surely affordable

Unpowered grass site

Liked The large area to choose from of where to set up. If you don't like being to close to large groups you can find somewhere quiet.

Disliked Didn't like.how small.the shower cubicles where and the fact you had to keep your hand on the tap to keep it working. very limited places to put your clothing in there so clean stuff had to be placed on the sink area

From the manager: Thank you for choosing to stay here and for leaving a review.
There were 2 shower blocks open, the smaller wooden ones have a changing space in-between the door and the shower curtain with the shower behind. The brick building showers have a hook on the outside and a hook on the inside of the door and without a bag to place clean clothes in there is very little room.
I can understand the frustration of having to keep pressing the showers on however without this they could be left switched on which is a waste of water and costly.
We look forward to welcoming you again.

Liked Clean and right on the river.

Disliked They just tell people where to pitch without having designated spots for camping and people just camp right next to you were the guide ropes are nearly touching and camping is all about enjoying your own company unless you’re with friends and family.

From the manager: Thank you for choosing to stay with us and for taking the time to leave a review.
I am sorry someone camped so close to you.We have several non-electric fields and guests are given a map when they arrive so they can choose where to pitch up. With such huge fields I do not understand why some people choose to go right next to someone who has already set up camp that they do not know, surely leaving even a few feet in-between would be the sensible thing to do.
We look forward to welcoming you again.

Liked The Hop Farm is a wonderful place for camping with family and friends. There is a huge area with plenty of space, so you can choose the perfect spot to stay. We loved how spacious everything was. There are places to swim, rope swings for children and adults to enjoy, and everyone was very friendly.

The staff do a great job of keeping the site safe and pleasant. Music is allowed until 10 pm, and they make sure the rules are followed. They also monitor speeding to keep everyone safe.

We really enjoyed the location, the atmosphere, and the large open spaces. We had a fantastic stay and would happily visit again. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Disliked The only downside was that we stayed at the far end of the campsite, and the toilets were located at the front, which meant a long walk or drive every time we needed to use them. It would be much more convenient if there were toilets and shower facilities available at both the front and back of the site.

It would also be nice to have more trees or shrubs around the fields to provide some shade and protection from the sun, especially on hot days.

From the manager: Thank you for choosing to stay with us and leaving a lovely review.
Many returning guests bring toilet tents to use when it is dark and they do not want to drive which is an excellent idea.
The areas that are shaded with shrubs and trees do get taken very quickly, perhaps the owners will look at adding some more in the future.
We look forward to welcoming you again.

Local attractions

Kent has 350 miles of coastline, with watersports and those famous white cliffs at Dover. Whitstable and Herne Bay are popular with oyster eaters, anglers and jetskiers. There are umpteen options for families in the area including play centres, farms, horse riding and days out. Try Howletts Wild Animal Park in Canterbury, home to gorillas and operating experiences for visitors such as junior ranger days. Penshurst Place and Gardens has historical re-enactments, children’s trails, an adventure playground and special events during the school holidays. Both Leeds Castle at Maidstone and Hever Castle near Edenbridge are family-friendly and packed with activities and events. There’s a Go Ape! at Leeds Castle as well as two mazes, boat trips, falconry displays, underground grotto and the Knights' Realm Playground, a scale model of the castle (and a golf course and golf instruction for the grownups). Hever, the childhood home of Anne Boleyn, has a yew maze and water maze, award-winning gardens and a topiary. Back with the big folk, the old market towns of Tonbridge, Maidstone, Sevenoaks and Tonbridge Wells are close by for shopping and sightseeing. Bluewater shopping centre is in Greenhithe (rival Lakewater is just over the Essex border at West Thurrock).
