Turn a day at a theme park into an affordable holiday with Pitchup.com

Jul 29 2013 Posted by Samantha Marsh

As Daily Mail* writer Toby Young highlights what we’ve all been thinking, that a day out for the family can stretch to as much as £500, Pitchup.com has come up with an alternative suggestion.  The outdoor specialist recommends trying lesser-known theme parks around the UK, many of which have on-site or close by camping as a cheap way of accommodating everyone, turning what could be an expensive day out to a low cost extended holiday.

Affordable fun-filled theme park

Take the family to the Isle of Wight this summer where Blackgang Chine, favourite of Harry Potter actor Rupert Grint, is a theme park that will capture the imagination of the whole family.  For £55 for a family of four there are six themed worlds including Cowboy Town, Pirate Cove, Fairy Land and Nursery Land.  Nearby and fun-filled Grange Farm is the perfect choice of accommodation, as the site is set within a rare breeds working farm.  Here visitors can get interactive with water buffalos, alpacas, micro pigs, birds, small pets and much more.  Even better, it’s all free!  Grange Farm features pitches for tents and caravans plus camping pods.  Overnight stays cost from as little as £25.60 per night in August with a minimum three night stay.  Grange Farm is just a few miles drive or walk from Blackgang Chine.

Pay while you play

Five-star Trevornick Holiday Park at Newquay, Cornwall, is located right next to Holywell Bay Fun Park, a park that is entirely free to enter and where visitors simply pay as they play, whether racing go-carts or panning for gold.  All guests at Trevornick Holiday Park will receive a pass providing them with excellent savings at the fun park.  Trevornick also has plenty on site to keep everyone entertained, especially in the high season. Facilities include free children’s club, evening entertainment, outdoor pool, spa and onsite bar and restaurant.  Pitches in August cost from £23 per night with a minimum two night stay.

Wild and farm animals

Cardigan Island Coastal Farm Park is great for families with smaller children who enjoy watching and interacting with animals.  This new site is located on a spectacular headland with panoramic views out to sea.  Atlantic grey seals and bottlenose dolphins are regular visitors to the surrounding waters while on the farm there are a host of lovely animals including pigs, sheep, goats, cattle, ponies, chickens, rabbits, ducks, geese and even a donkey.  There is also a playground for children and a café and gift shop.  All campers receive free entry into the farm park which they are welcome to visit as many times as they wish.  Pitches at the site this August start from just £15.80 per night.

Total adrenaline

For older children who might be looking for total adrenaline then Adventure Camping in Devon is the perfect choice.  Located within the Ultimate Adventure Centre this site offers a range of accommodation from tent pitches to cabins and tipis.  Accommodation prices range from £15 per night for a tent pitch and from £50 or £60 per night for a cabin or tipi.  The Ultimate Adventure Centre is located right behind the campsite where visitors can try out an assault course or learn more action packed activities such as coasteering, mountain boarding, climbing or kayaking.  At the end of the day there are barbecues and firepits for families to sit around and warm up or enjoy an evening meal.

Jumping pillows and a magic castle

The Hop Farm campsite is set over 500 acres of woodland and open fields at one of Kent’s most popular visitor attractions.  The Hop Farm Family Park offers funfair rides, a driving school and giant jumping pillows with something for children of all ages.  The theme park also has an animal village, outdoor adventure playground and a 4D cinema.  Electric grass pitches at Hop Farm start from £23.50 per night in August.
