General

  • Campsite adjacent to Cardigan Island Coastal Farm Park: free entry
  • On a scenic headland with sea views
  • Friendly farm animals and a llama, emu and wallaby on site

If you'd like to go nature spotting in Wales, consider Cardigan Bay and the nature reserve Cardigan Island. And if you'd like to stay in the Cardigan Island vicinity, go to Cardigan Island Coastal Farm Park, a campsite adjacent to the popular and family-run farm park of the same name, set on a scenic headland with views of Cardigan Island and the dolphins below.

Cardigan Island, 200 yards offshore and visible from the campsite, has thousands of nesting seabirds to see, a flock of wild Soay sheep (originally from the Scottish Isle of Soay, south of Skye) and a colony of grey Atlantic seals breeding in the many caves below the farm park cliffs (you and the kids should be able to see them every day of your stay). The bay's bottlenose dolphins also frequent these waters, particularly on calm days when they swim closer to the shore and can be seen from the farm park.

On site, there's a variety of friendly animals to meet including pigs, sheep, goats, rarebreed cattle, ponies, chickens, rabbits, ducks, geese and a donkey, and a llama, emu and wallaby representing non-natives. There's also an adventure playground and sandpit for the kids, and a large visitor centre (open daily from 10am to 6pm) with a café, gift shop and plenty of play equipment.

The campsite itself is on a gentle slope with spectacular views over the farm park and out to sea, and has showers, loos and dishwashing facilities on site. Other loos and a baby changing area are in the visitor centre when it's open.

And yet another cracking thing about staying at this Cardigan Island campsite? Entrance to the farm park is free for guests.

Please note

A charge of 50p applies for the use of shower.

As a first time camper I wasn't sure what to expect.
I picked this site because of its sea view and also the fact that you have free entry to the farm park meant that there was definitely something to keep the kids entertained. It was also only a short distance to the seal viewing area where we were not dissapointed
Check in was simple and the staff were friendly and helpful.
Toilet and shower facilities were also clean and well stocked (with toilet paper lol).
It is also well situated near to the town so you can still 'pop to the shops ' to get everything you need.

What a lovely campsite! Amazing views, welcoming people and great facilities. We came on our own for 2 nights whilst travelling Wales but we will be back with the children next year. Highlight of the stay was seeing the seals and dolphins. Thank you for having us 😊

    Disliked:

Obviously it can't be helped but the gusts of wind were quite bad - if you have an awning or tent I'd advise to be prepared for all weathers - storm pegs next time!

Absolutely loved this site. Pitches on a slight slope but not really a problem. Showers 50p for 7.5 minutes, even my daughter and her friend had enough time to get clean off 50p! Washing up facilities had lovely views although the water did take some time to heat up this was no great hardship. Play park is lovely and kids had access after it had closed to the public. Animal farm was great fun and we saw seals by the rocks on a daily basis. Fantastic short break, will definitely return but for longer next time

    Disliked:

Only negative is the shop didn't sell essentials such as bread or milk. There is a Tesco, Aldi & B&M a couple of miles away so not a major problem.

Amazing views, lovely family run site. Very clean facilities. Children loved the play areas, feeding the animals and seal spotting.

    Disliked:

No on site shop selling the necessaries such as milk and bread, this would be useful as there are no shops within walking distance. This is the only fault we could find with this amazing place.

This is the second time we have stayed here and enjoyed it both times, the site is clean and views are stunning. The grand kids loved the animals and the park.

    Disliked:

The showers could be a bit more user friendly as there was no where to get changed in private.

Lovely views enough to do for 2 days, walked into Cardigan via coastal route easily more than 3 miles though. Lovely farm/shop to visit walked to spot sea lions which we did and photographed. Loads of red kites also. Site excellent just a big field with hook ups. Toilets/showers clean (porta cabins). Staff in visitors centre local and very knowledgeable. Good access to site

    Disliked:

Paying 50p for showers when really we were only on grass pitch should have been included. We paid £46 for 2 nights!

Local attractions

After a day at the farm park, several cracking and family-friendly beaches are in the area: have days at Mwnt (and the Church of the Holy Cross), Aberporth, Tresaith, Penbryn, Llangrannog, Newquay and Poppit Sands for smashingly scenic sands.

Shoppers, pubbers and restaurant goers will find plenty of picks in Cardigan town, as well as a golf club, swimming pool, the Theatre Mwldan and the Custom House shop and gallery. Then lace up the walking boots, as both the Ceredigion Coast Path and the Pembrokeshire Coast Path are accessible from Cardigan: take either path to Amroth about nine miles away for more spectacular scenery of Cardigan Bay.

Cardigan Bay stayers could also check out some Welsh history at St Dogmaels Abbey, Cilgerran Castle and the National Wool Museum, splash around Cenarth Falls and the National Coracle Centre, and see yet more animals at the Welsh Wildlife Centre, with nature trails, willow maze, water buffalo and giant willow badger.

  • St Davids Cathedral (29.6 miles)
