Snap up a last-minute festival break

Jun 9 2012 Posted by Lewis Shields

The clouds have darkened and the wellies are out - summer has arrived! And this can only mean one thing - the festival season has begun! Visitors aren’t always guaranteed a pitch at their favourite events, so Pitchup.com has put together a last-minute round up of the best options on the UK festival calendar this summer with tickets still available, complete with accommodation options for whatever the weather throws at us:

Deep in the heart of the English countryside, the original independent dance music festival returns to a brand new home this summer. Glade Festival originally started out as a stage at Glastonbury Festival, and is described by many as 'Glasto for dance music fans' – it has carved a niche in the UK dance scene as a flat-out four day party that combines highly credible music with impressive art installations, circus, cabaret, a healing area and high quality sound systems.

Where to stay: Restore weary limbs after the mayhem at Nature's Path Tipis and Yurts, where you can swap damp canvas for the luxury of soft sheets and double beds. The yurts and tipis are also equipped with cosy wood burners and sheepskin rugs for chillier nights in the great outdoors. The yurts and tipis sleep up to five people and are priced from £250 for three nights.

The first of several summer events on the Isle, the renowned Isle of Wight Festival is welcoming rock legend, Bruce Springsteen, to the main stage, as well as Jessie J, Feeder, Tinie Tempah and Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds.

Where to stay: For a little more space and great facilities away from the festival site itself, stay at Ninham Country Holidays, a beautiful camping and caravanning site just a short distance from the sandy beaches of Shanklin. There is a heated outdoor pool too so revellers can relax poolside after the festivities. Pitches are priced from £10 per night for two people.

Relentless NASS (National Adventure Sports Show) is the UK’s only action sports and music festival – revellers can witness the world’s best in action sports (BMX, Skate, FMX and Inline), take part in real competitions, bring their own bikes or boards, and when the sun goes down it’s time to party…hard.

Where to stay: Carry on the action and stay at Wimbleball Lake Campsite - the lake offers an amazing range of watersports (sailing, windsurfing, kayaking and rowing). Make the most of the July sunshine (fingers crossed) and chill on the lake’s shores after NASS - pitches priced from £13 per night for two people.

The Latitude Festival takes place in Henham Park, Suffolk and is said to be the most similar event to continental European festivals. As well as a super impressive bill of musicians, bands and artists across four stages, the festival comprises elements of theatre, art, comedy, cabaret, poetry, politics, dance and literature.

Where to stay: Visitors can escape the hustle and bustle at the end of the festival and pitch up at Bardwell Manor Equestrian Centre, a quiet orchard campsite that doesn’t just welcome ‘horsey’ guests. With new showering facilities, guests will find the site the perfect place to get clean, chill out and bed down under the stars for the night. Pitches priced from £12.50 per night for two people.

Join the waiting list for tickets to this one…. Launched in 2004 as an alternative to the established mainstream music festivals, Secret Garden Party – an annual independent arts and music festival – is 2012’s most sought out festival this summer. Undoubtedly one of the most beautiful and magical festivals ever created, the Secret Garden Party is set in a 10 acre landscaped garden, bordering a river and a lake in the tranquil countryside of Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire.

Where to stay: Last minute campers can stay at the Tall Trees Leisure Park where the onsite farm shop provides guests with some tasty treats and spacious pitches - with excellent shower and toilet facilities - are available from as little as £8.25 per night for two people.

The little known Deer Shed Festival is the one for festival-loving families this summer. Set in rural North Yorkshire countryside, it’s fast becoming THE family-friendly event of the season, helped by incredibly reasonably priced tickets. There are hundred of activities for kids, and the party mood for grown-ups picks up as night falls and the music kicks off. No adults in the sand and soft-play tent we’re afraid…

Where to stay: Glamp it up a little at The Hideaway at Baxby Manor a small, relaxed and friendly site in the heart of North Yorkshire offering chilled-out camping that's in tune with nature and doesn't cost the earth. There are brand-new log-cabin-style showers, and despite being off the beaten track guests are only a stroll from the village shop and pub. Pitches priced from £18 per night for two people.

The Edinburgh Festival Fringe is the largest arts festival in the world, taking place every August for three weeks in Scotland’s capital city. Each year sees thousands of performers take to stages all over the city to present shows for every taste, including theatre, comedy, dance, physical theatre, musicals, operas, music, exhibitions and more…

Where to stay: The perfect vision of a Scottish hideaway, Balgair Castle Holiday Park sits outside of the city in Stirlingshire. Rivers bursting with salmon, hills and dales a-plenty, this holiday park has great new facilities for summer including a brand new outdoor pool and on-site bistro. Pitches are priced from £20 per night for two people.
