  • Luxury tourer park with a pool complex in Goethe State Forest, Florida
  • World Equestrian Center – Ocala half an hour’s drive
  • Horse riding and carriage rides; complementary electric golf carts
Calling equestrians and all outdoor lovers… It’s time to get yourselves to Florida’s Black Prong Resort, set 10 minutes’ drive from the small town of Bronson in the 53,000-acre Goethe State Forest. Guests have access to miles of trails in the forest that can be explored on foot, bike, horseback or by horse-drawn carriage. The resort has facilities for holidaying with your horse (strictly by prior arrangement), and is also half an hour by car from the World Equestrian Center – Ocala. But there’s more to this peaceful, leafy spot than horse riding. By day, guests can also relax in the pool or hot tub, and work out at the fitness centre. Black Prong provides luxury amenities for your four-legged friends too: they are welcome to run and play in the secure dog park, which is provided with water and benches. You can dine very well at the Black Prong Whiskey Bar & Grill, which serves up craft cocktails and a dinner menu showcasing local steak and seafood in an elegant dining room. And other thoughtful extras to enhance your stay come in the shape of electric golf carts to get around the property, as well as complementary e-bikes for exploring further afield.

Local attractions

Goethe State Forest awaits for hikes and cycle rides straight from the resort. It’s an area of wetlands and ever-shifting dunes, and if you go carefully, you may see Florida black bears and bald eagles on your adventures. Black Prong is also a handy base for exploring Florida’s Nature Coast, stretching along the Gulf of Mexico from Pasco County to Wakulla County. You can go manatee-spotting in Homosassa (55 minutes’ drive), take the kids to see the mermaid shows at Weeki Wachee Springs State Park (an hour and 15 minutes) and cycle or hike along the paved and scenic Nature Coast State Trail. Closer to home, you can go scuba diving among limestone formations in underground caverns at the Devil’s Den Prehistoric Spring, and wander around the lush neighbouring Cedar Lakes Woods and Gardens (both 20 minutes), built into a century-old limestone quarry and planted with tropical vegetation endemic to Florida. Other unusual local activities include watching the night sky at Rosemary Hill Observatory (15 minutes).
