WeCamp San Sebastián: Pitches for motorhomes and campers

General

  • Five kilometres from the foodie and festival resort of San Sebastián
  • Shuttle bus to town every 30 minutes
  • Restaurant, bar and barbecue area on site

Right. Firmness is probably needed here. If you're in the habit of holidaying fairly regularly in Spain and you haven't yet been to San Sebastián in the Basque country, it's a firm fact that you really should, and soon. San Sebastián is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Spain and has been described as the country's 'most elegant and fashionable seaside resort' (high praise indeed…)

And you might want to stay at WeCamp San Sebastián too: it's only five kilometres from the resort's gorgeous Ondarreta beach, in a sublime setting between the mountains and the sea, and – how super – runs a shuttle bus to San Sebastián every 30 minutes. Hurrah!

WeCamp San Sebastián is a family-friendly site with modern facilities, including an up-to-date amenities block with plenty of showers and loos, hot and cold water all the day and night long, and coin-operated washers and dryers. Lockers of varying sizes are to hand so guests can keep their stuff snugly secure.

For eats, tasty local meals are dished up at the site restaurant and a roomy barbecue area with picnic tables is available for guests' use. Thirsts can be slaked at the WeCamp San Sebastián bar and supplies sorted at the on-site supermarket; shops and restaurants are just over half a kilometre away.

Pitches are tight to get on and hedges badly needed cutting. Most annoying was the pool was closed and it was very hot and sunny. This is such a disgrace.

Great facilities, nice private pitch, staff friendly, location close to bus stop

    Disliked:

Steep hill to get to wash facilities or reception, but this cannot be changed, it at least provides some interesting views for the pitches.
I thought the bus route would be complimentary private shuttle bus, it was actually a paid for public service... but at least this was low-cost and regular services.

If you staying in a mobile home or rented tent the toilets and showers are really nice brand new vanity units refurb building and lovely housing units ,BUT if you have a motorhome or touring caravan the toilet block is dated, I sat on the loo and it was loose, bolts to floor had snapped , pressed flush lever a small type of hydraulic switch ontop and water came squirting out of that as well as flushing the toilet , the pitches are tiny and have a chamfered kerb to get onto them so without a caravan motor mover you will struggle to get caravan over them and onto your tiny pitch, luckily other campers came to help us push , can't do it with a car as road too narrow, I think they have possibly put so much effort and resources into mobile homes and safari tent which are very impressive that they have possibly neglected touring pitches and have many weeds and uncut grass areas that will take a lot of work to get under control ,

Camping Igueldo was a great find and we were able to enjoy the clean shower and toilet facilities, as well as enjoy an evening out in San Sebastian. There is a bus that runs from the site to the city, though as we didn't have masks to use on it, we ended up having to take a taxi in once we'd found our masks, but it was well worth it. Our motorhome just about made it on to the pitch, though I think we were at the maximum size it could accommodate. The wifi was good and there was a bar and restaurant up near reception had we stayed at the site. We were a little out of season so didn't attempt to use the pool which looked nice.

Local attractions

San Sebastián city centre is 15 minutes’ drive from WeCamp San Sebastián – or do get that 30-minute shuttle bus... Once in town, firmly recommended are scenic strolls along its three beaches: La Concha, the surf centre Zurriola, and Ondarreta, a family-friendly and large stretch of sand also known for its surfing and bodyboarding.

San Sebastián is quite the foodie city too – many inhabitants are members of the local gourmet clubs – and has heaps of well-renowned restaurants at which to sample Basque and other cuisine.

It's a cultural place as well, home of the San Sebastián International Film Festival and of Jazzaldia, the longest continuously running jazz festival in Europe; small wonder that, along with Wroclaw in Poland, San Sebastián was awarded European City of Culture for 2016...

The city is also (sí, there's a whole heap more) famed for its pintxos, the small bars of the region serving tapas alongside its drinks. Head to the San Sebastián Old Town to try the best of them: another reason this city is a must is that it has the highest concentration of bars in the world.
