General

  • Five kilometres from the foodie and festival resort of San Sebastián
  • Shuttle bus to town every 30 minutes
  • Restaurant, bar, barbecue area and free wifi

Right. Firmness is probably needed here. If you're in the habit of holidaying fairly regularly in Spain and you haven't yet been to San Sebastián in the Basque country, it's a firm fact that you really should, and soon.

Haven't been to Spain yet at all? This is a topping spot to make your first: San Sebastián is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Spain and has been described as the country's 'most elegant and fashionable seaside resort'. Cor.

And you might want to stay at Camping Igueldo too: it's only five kilometres from the resort's gorge Ondarreta beach, in a sublime setting between the mountains and the sea, and – how super – runs a shuttle bus to San Sebastián every 30 minutes. Hurrah!

Camping Igueldo is a family-friendly site with modern facilities, including an up to date amenities block with plenty of showers and loos, hot and cold water all the day and night long, and coin-operated washers and dryers. Lockers of varying sizes are to hand so guests can keep their stuff snugly secure.

For eats, tasty local meals are dished up at the site restaurant and a roomy barbecue area with picnic tables is available for guests' use. Thirsts can be slaked at the Camping Igueldo bar and supplies sorted at the on-site supermarket; shops and restaurants are just over half a kilometre away.

Camping Igueldo also has free wifi.

    Not a lot really.

    Disliked:

Good place to stay if you are a mountain goat or a sardine. Access to the site isn't great and when you get there it is very steep and access is, again, very tight and the pitches small. In fairness we do have quite a large rig with a Navara and a Coachman Laser 650. There is no way we would have got in there without a motor mover. It really only suits small rigs and small Motorhomes. They are called grass pitches but they are, on the whole, mainly mud with geotextile matting put in place the keep them from rolling down the hill.
Also we found the staff rather rude both when we arrived and when we left.

Great spot for visiting San Sebastian, bus stop was 2mins away and cost 1.70Euros and took 15 mins to get into the City. Some decent restaurants within walking distance as well. Shop was a bit bare but we were there at the end of September and it wasn't at all busy. A bit disappointed the pool had closed but to be honest it was so quick and easy to get into San Sebastian and the beautiful beaches there it didn't really matter in the end. Very clean and good amenities. Reception staff helpful

The pitch was quite hard, but other than that - no problems. Perhaps they need more staff on the reception desk. Only saw 1 person and she was swamped!

Swimming pool was lovely shame it closed while we were there.
    Lovely walks on camino trail.
Having regular bus service into San Sebastian until late .
Use to walk in and bus back.
    Campsite clean .
Don't follow sat nav to site...you will be on a mountain road not to be repeated in a motorhome !!!!.
Thought I was going to need a defibrillator
By the time we arrived at site .!!!

    Disliked:

Waiting to speak to the receptionist she was in a conversation with 1 of the cleaner in a friendly chat.
I am a patient person and waited my turn there was nobody else in the queue but was shocked when instead of acknowledging me after the cleaner left the receptionist went back to her computer with me standing in front of her at the desk.!!
I then just walked out I was flabbergasted
She needs training in customer services.

Local attractions

San Sebastián city centre is 15 minutes’ drive from Camping Igueldo – or do get that 30-minute shuttle bus... Once in town, firmly recommended are scenic strolls along its three beaches: its best-known La Concha, the surf centre Zurriola, and Ondarreta, a family-friendly and large stretch of sand also known for its surfing and bodyboarding.

San Sebastián is quite the foodie city too – many inhabitants are members of the local gourmet clubs – and has heaps of well-renowned restaurants at which to sample Basque and other cuisine.

It's a cultural place as well, home of the San Sebastián International Film Festival and of Jazzaldia, the longest continuously running jazz festival in Europe: we reckon tis small wonder that along with Wroclaw in Poland, San Sebastián was awarded European City of Culture for 2016...

The city is also (sí, there's a whole heap more) famed for its pintxos, the small bars of the region serving tapas alongside its drinks. Head to the San Sebastián Old Town to try the best of them: another reason this city is a must is that it has the highest concentration of bars in the world..
