General

  • Five kilometres from the foodie and festival resort of San Sebastián
  • Shuttle bus to town every 30 minutes
  • Restaurant, bar, barbecue area and free wifi

Right. Firmness is probably needed here. If you're in the habit of holidaying fairly regularly in Spain and you haven't yet been to San Sebastián in the Basque country, it's a firm fact that you really should, and soon.

Haven't been to Spain yet at all? This is a topping spot to make your first: San Sebastián is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Spain and has been described as the country's 'most elegant and fashionable seaside resort'. Cor.

And you might want to stay at Camping Igueldo too: it's only five kilometres from the resort's gorge Ondarreta beach, in a sublime setting between the mountains and the sea, and – how super – runs a shuttle bus to San Sebastián every 30 minutes. Hurrah!

Camping Igueldo is a family-friendly site with modern facilities, including an up to date amenities block with plenty of showers and loos, hot and cold water all the day and night long, and coin-operated washers and dryers. Lockers of varying sizes are to hand so guests can keep their stuff snugly secure.

For eats, tasty local meals are dished up at the site restaurant and a roomy barbecue area with picnic tables is available for guests' use. Thirsts can be slaked at the Camping Igueldo bar and supplies sorted at the on-site supermarket; shops and restaurants are just over half a kilometre away.

Camping Igueldo also has free wifi.

Arrived 8-30 at night was expecting To be turned away but was pleasantly surprised at receptionist who was very helpful and by 8-45 we were on our pitch albeit a little tight to get in there at 8.5m long but all amenities were there water and power not so sure in high season how that would compare. We took the bus which was 1.75e each down into the town and enjoyed a day there missing the last bus back at 10-30 so jumped in a cab which was only 17e so no drama. Would definitely stay there again.

Bus service very 30 minutes to town. Cleanliness of toilet block. View from pitch 127 across the valley.

    Disliked:

Bloody difficult to negotiate steep turns with moho and trailer. Very tight bends. Pitch size very small. Shower blocks no heating - freezing (water hot though). Entrance has poor gradients- you’ll ground your tow out. Bloody dogs barking all night. Shop is a lean to with sod all in it. No atmosphere to bar. One of receptionists is miserable and unfriendly. Local attractions

San Sebastián city centre is 15 minutes’ drive from Camping Igueldo – or do get that 30-minute shuttle bus... Once in town, firmly recommended are scenic strolls along its three beaches: its best-known La Concha, the surf centre Zurriola, and Ondarreta, a family-friendly and large stretch of sand also known for its surfing and bodyboarding.

San Sebastián is quite the foodie city too – many inhabitants are members of the local gourmet clubs – and has heaps of well-renowned restaurants at which to sample Basque and other cuisine.

It's a cultural place as well, home of the San Sebastián International Film Festival and of Jazzaldia, the longest continuously running jazz festival in Europe: we reckon tis small wonder that along with Wroclaw in Poland, San Sebastián was awarded European City of Culture for 2016...

The city is also (sí, there's a whole heap more) famed for its pintxos, the small bars of the region serving tapas alongside its drinks. Head to the San Sebastián Old Town to try the best of them: another reason this city is a must is that it has the highest concentration of bars in the world..
