General

  • Five kilometres from the foodie and festival resort of San Sebastián
  • Shuttle bus to town every 30 minutes
  • Restaurant, bar, barbecue area and free wifi

Right. Firmness is probably needed here. If you're in the habit of holidaying fairly regularly in Spain and you haven't yet been to San Sebastián in the Basque country, it's a firm fact that you really should, and soon.

Haven't been to Spain yet at all? This is a topping spot to make your first: San Sebastián is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Spain and has been described as the country's 'most elegant and fashionable seaside resort'. Cor.

And you might want to stay at Camping Igueldo too: it's only five kilometres from the resort's gorge Ondarreta beach, in a sublime setting between the mountains and the sea, and – how super – runs a shuttle bus to San Sebastián every 30 minutes. Hurrah!

Camping Igueldo is a family-friendly site with modern facilities, including an up to date amenities block with plenty of showers and loos, hot and cold water all the day and night long, and coin-operated washers and dryers. Lockers of varying sizes are to hand so guests can keep their stuff snugly secure.

For eats, tasty local meals are dished up at the site restaurant and a roomy barbecue area with picnic tables is available for guests' use. Thirsts can be slaked at the Camping Igueldo bar and supplies sorted at the on-site supermarket; shops and restaurants are just over half a kilometre away.

Camping Igueldo also has free wifi.

Sanitary block excellent, pitches small and poor quality. 10/21/2017

Clean shower and toilets, good supply of hot water in showers.
Good bus service to San Sebastián.

    Disliked:

Pitches in use at this time of the year (at the top of the hill) looked like they had not see grass (except under low hedges) for a long time.
Pitches are quite small and due to narrow roadway could make it a bit tight for larger vehicles.

The surrounding area. We had a wonderful walk around the nearby lake/reservoir.

    Disliked:

Each pitch has restricted access with numerous trees planted marking them. Many have scars of collision that are a permanent reminder to take it easy- all very well if you arrive in daylight! The restaurant although the tables were dressed impressively was let down by the food served. The Fillet steak we ordered arrived as entrecôte. The mixed fish ordered arrived as one piece of fish which was fried along with mussels sqid and prawns. Just the one fish then?

    Disliked:

Not dislikes but need to be aware.
Pitches for touring caravans are very tight to manouvering in to.
Facilities were clean but not sure how they would be when the campsite was at capacity.
The bus does come along every 30 mins and takes about 40 mins on a very scenic drive into Santander.
Unless you are a frequent hiker or vey strong cyclist you would not be using either as a form of transport as you are situated at the top of a steady but lengthy incline.

Location, although out of san sebastian was good, despite the rain everything drained really quickly.
The pitches are terraced which is nice & feels very secure - they lock it at night.
Really really clean - brilliant bathroom facilities

    Disliked:

Muddy pitches, but we arrived at the end of the season so probably not much that could have been done here.
Also, difficult to check out before 9 (September) - I suggest there needs to be a key drop box obvious, the gates were open but it was hard to tell where to drop our key card off!

Lovely clean site with great facilities and location 08/27/2017

Reviewer's country: United Kingdom Jenny D. Confirmed

  • Liked:

Really lovely clean site with great facilities, including a fantastic pool, the best campsite showers I have ever experienced, a bbq area with picnic tables, little playpark for the kids, drinking water and bins at the end of every row of pitches. We also loved the close proximity to San Sebastian with a regular bus service from very close to the park.

    Disliked:

Nothing, although another couple had to leave a day early as the site wouldn't let them leave before 8am the next morning to catch their ferry. Someone else also said their tent wouldn't fit on their pitch although ours was fine for our tent, car and a small sitting/cooking area.

Local attractions

San Sebastián city centre is 15 minutes’ drive from Camping Igueldo – or do get that 30-minute shuttle bus... Once in town, firmly recommended are scenic strolls along its three beaches: its best-known La Concha, the surf centre Zurriola, and Ondarreta, a family-friendly and large stretch of sand also known for its surfing and bodyboarding.

San Sebastián is quite the foodie city too – many inhabitants are members of the local gourmet clubs – and has heaps of well-renowned restaurants at which to sample Basque and other cuisine.

It's a cultural place as well, home of the San Sebastián International Film Festival and of Jazzaldia, the longest continuously running jazz festival in Europe: we reckon tis small wonder that along with Wroclaw in Poland, San Sebastián was awarded European City of Culture for 2016...

The city is also (sí, there's a whole heap more) famed for its pintxos, the small bars of the region serving tapas alongside its drinks. Head to the San Sebastián Old Town to try the best of them: another reason this city is a must is that it has the highest concentration of bars in the world..
