Camping Estrella De Mar: Play football with your friends

General

  • Five kilometres of Med beach just 400m away
  • Fifteen-minute drive to Barcelona
  • Pool, paddling pool, free wifi and snack bar

What a super setting has Camping Estrella De Mar in the municipality of Castelldefels. Here come the numbers… five kilometres of sandy Med beach and ten kilometres of promenade are just 400 metres from the site; it's five minutes from the kitesurfing, canoeing and sky surfing of the Canal Olímpic – and it's a paltry 15-minute drive/40-minute bus ride to splendid Barcelona. And here's a numero uno too, for the site is in a woodland setting, in one of the biggest pine forests in Castelldefels.

The friendly team here goes out of its way to help ensure guests have a smashingly relaxed Spanish holiday among tiptop levels of customer service and modern facilities: there's a paddling pool as well as a main outdoor pool, a snack bar for bites and drinks, free wifi and a play area. Guests can order bread for brekkie the next day.

Camping Estrella De Mar's well-kept amenities include toilets, rainfall-style showers, a launderette, disabled facilities and a washing-up area.

Please note

No cars/motorbikes by the pitch/unit. All cars must be parked in the designated area.

The outdoor swimming pool is open between 23/06 and 15/09 (subject to weather conditions).

Facilities/activities including basketball court and football pitch are subject to extra charges payable on arrival.

Reception is unmanned after 9 p.m.. Please inform the site while on your way there should you expect to arrive after this time, so that the team can provide information about your unit/pitch.

Friendliness of staff, Covid precautions (temperatures taken on every entry to the site). Convenience to beach. Family atmosphere. Good 24 hour security on the gate - permits checked every time.

    Disliked:

Pitches are shared and impossibly small. We booked a spacious caravan pitch and we’re told we must share the pitch with another unit. Absolutely impossible to fit even two tents plus cars, let alone two caravans plus awning and cars on a pitch the size we were given. On our own until the final night when a tent pitched beside us. We had about 20m/2 as the people sharing our pitch parked their car over half of our space. There was nowhere for our table and chairs except behind their car. There were other pitches available but we were VERY squashed. Thinking it may have been a misunderstanding, before writing this review, we wrote to the site in both English and Spanish, but no response in over a week.
Only cold water available at washing up and laundry sinks. Noisy (although it was a weekend in high season).

24hr manned entrance and exit. Dallas greeted me with huge smiles (behind a mask) and nothing was a problem at 2am arrival. Helped me to no end with passport photocopy and antigen test. Guided me and my campervan via bicycle to my pitch. Showed me all of necessities on site.
Reception in the morning, again, nothing was to much to help with. Booked me a taxi to my clinic in Barcelona for my antigen test and more. All were happy and helpful. The site was very quiet at night. Plenty of showers and toilets, never had to queue. The café/restaurant was chilled and more than enough. Site swept and cleaned every morning. Even within a global pandemic... made my travels easy and stress free.
Also, very easy to find with a satnav.

    I'd happily stay here again.

    Disliked:

Bring ya own toilet paper. Not a problem but at 2am arrival... I was... er... caught short! Bahahaha not a dislike at all. Just a funny happening and lack of foresight from myself.

Maybe a little expensive. Maybe €10 less per night if a self serving campervan wouldn't go a miss.

    Convenient location to visit Barcelona.

I’m not really sure where to start here. Excluding the woman on Reception, we found the staff rude and inattentive. The man who was supposed to show us to our pitch tried to place us somewhere - until a Spanish man who was a permanent resident told us that this is where the teenagers come at night to drink and do drugs and ‘fiesta’ and that we wouldn’t get any sleep there. The member of staff moved us and we ended up in a pitch surrounded by litter, including condom wrappers. The whole site had very poor grounds maintenance, was overgrown and covered in little.
There are so many permanent residents there, who were lovely on the whole, BUT they need to be held accountable for keeping their pitches clean and tidy, as it looked like a shanty town.
The swimming pool was open on an hourly rotation due to Covid, a good idea from the staff, but non-permanent residents did not have a chance and were made to feel unwelcome around the pool.
The WiFi didn’t reach our pitch and we had poor signal.
We slept ok but, just as the man warned us, when we left the site at 6am the next morning there were maybe 30 young (maybe age 14-17) girls and boys stumbling around the site drunk from the night before. It made us both very uncomfortable. We won’t be returning. After travelling for over two months, it’s the most expensive and worst place we have camped. Avoid.

Local attractions

As enthusiastically mentioned, Camping Estrella De Mar is in a super setting, whether you want to lounge around on a sandy white Mediterranean beach, get (slightly) active in a sporty or watersporty manner, or have cultured (and nightclubby) days and evenings out in busy Barcelona.

A short walk away are five kilometres of beach and ten kilometres of promenade for strolling, skating, jogging and sitting watching the sunset through one's cocktail flagon at one of the several beachside bars and restaurants. If you fancy an indoor/till ringing day, a shopping mall is a short drive from the site.

Within five minutes of the site is the Canal Olímpic, host to the canoe sprint events of the 1992 Olympics and now a venue for all sorts of sports of water and air: take to the canal for canoeing or kitesurfing, or skid above it Marty McFly-like for a spot of sky surfing among the clouds.
