General

  • Opposite the beach in a small fishing village 8km from Porto
  • Within easy reach of Mindelo and the vineyards of the Douro Valley
  • Pool, paddling pool, shop and restaurant

Everyone off to Porto: Portugal's second biggest city is a place of world-famed wines, gorgeous port (of course), the bars and restaurants of the Ribeira area, and old old sites like the Palácio da Bolsa.

To stay within simple reach of Porto and say Pah to big city prices, have a break at Parque Orbitur Angeiras, eight kilometres north of town. It's a peaceful and green Porto spot, surrounded by trees and bushes and opposite the beach in the fishing village of Angeiras. A bus stop is close to the site.

Spectacular Portuguese sands, the dunes of Mindelo and the vineyards of the Douro Valley are all easy to get to from here; on site, there's a pool and a paddling pool, a tennis court, a multisports pitch, a playground and a TV room. A mini market is also to hand, but you'll probably prefer to have bites to eat at the restaurant, popular with Angeiras locals.

Amenities include washrooms with showers, toilets and disabled facilities. The site has free wifi.

Please note

The outdoor swimming pool is open between 01/06 and 07/10 (subject to weather conditions).

Dogs are not allowed in the accommodation units.

The site does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Dangerous Dogs Act and/or any of the following: Staffordshire bull terrier, American Staffordshire terrier, Rottweiler, any Mastiff or Tosa.

Large pitches, easy access, swimming pool, great atmosphere, close to beach. Pool attendant extremely helpful especially with older people and children, handing out swimming noodles and extra chairs.

    Disliked:

Showers were good but did vary in temperature. Bread was baked on site, bit doughy and overpriced €1.10

Some lovely residents and the location is good but they need to work o 28/08/2018

The place. Good sized pitches. Plenty of water taps. Quiet, considering what a big site it is. It's location on the outskirts of Matosinhos gave plenty of scope for visits out.

Our neighbours, mostly long term residents, were delightful. Their welcome was the high point of our stay.

    Disliked:

There are not enough toilet/shower blocks for such a big site. We were just about as far away as you can get. Also, they need to be refurbished. They were certainly clean but showing their age.

The young lady who booked us (and checked us out) was not welcoming. Clearly at check in there was some crisis which involved whispered conversations between my check in and another, while I was ignored. All rather rude. Our lady did smile and wish us a nice stay but it was rather forced, as if she remembered late in the day to be nice to the customer.

The restaurant was disappointing. We had to wait around 45 minutes for our main course. When it came, my sardines were delicious but my wife's fish was overdone, having sat waiting for mine to be cooked. I had the impression that we had been forgotten about but there was no apology for the delay.

We stayed for 5 nights here booking through pitchup.com,
The site is very easy to find as it is well sign posted and only a few km off the autoroute.
It’s a large site with a relaxed feel about the pitching areas, we chose a shady spot due to the heat.
The facilities are kept very clean, the showers are hot and we never had to queue for them.
We didn’t eat at the restaurant but did get a takeaway pizza from there which was really nice. The on-site pool is nice and big, not particularly warm but my kids didn’t mind. The staff here are really friendly, the guy in charge of the pool was really helpful.
There is a small play area for the kids, tennis courts, basketball, and crazy golf and also a room for older kids to hang out in. There is a continente supermarket in the town which is about a 25 minute walk away or a smaller one about 5 minutes away, there is a really nice beach is about 5 minutes from the site entrance (beware of the strong currents on this coastline).
The bus stops right outside the entrance and runs quite regularly, it goes into Porto, it takes over an hour but it’s easier than driving. It also only costs €1.60 each way, if you want to stay later in Porto you can get a taxi back easily enough, we got an Uber that cost €19 and took about 25 minutes. Porto is a must visit and is one of our favourite cities we have ever visited. This is certainly a site we would use again when we come back to Portugal , and would also make a good stop off point for a few days if heading north or south.

Near to the sea, friendly reception staff, near good restaurants .

    Disliked:

Toilet and shower blocks ran out of toilet paper and needed cleaning more often than was done. Pool had very loud music and not enough sun beds. Some loud mowing and gardening starteted at 8.39 in the morning.

Friendly and helpful staff, including the groundsmen who helped us move pitches to a drier spot. Toilet and shower block were immaculate though I'm told the ladies ran out of loo roll at times. Very good on site restaurant: I live in France and the steak from the camp-site restaurant was the best I've tasted in many years. Proximity to very good and reasonably priced fish restaurants on the front (about 10 minutes walk away). There's a good little mini-market about 5 minutes walk away - turn right as you leave the parque then follow the bend around to the left and continue straight on. There's a good little local restaurant/bar ( see pics) just before you reach the mini market too - 5 Euros for a jug of wine, bread, coffee, main course and soup - absolutely brilliant!

    Disliked:

Proximity to airport - 'planes begin taking off around 6 a.m. and if you're a light sleeper, you'll hear them.
Take the bust timetables with a pinch of salt; we waited over and hour for two buses to Porto and they never appeared so we gave up that day, and the one from Porto the day after left ten minutes early. Go figure.
On site mini market was still not open by mid June ( see above for a better, cheaper alternative).
Some pitches were still overgrown in early June though to be fair Portugal had had some lousy weather in the preceding weeks and so they must have been a few weeks behind.
A lunatic off-site neighbour was playing trance music throughout one of the nights.

Efficient check in. Cabin had everything our family of four needed. Heating was essential as it has been cold! Kitchen was well supplied with necessary items, extra blankets etc available. Lots of little touches had been thought of, such as a washing rack for drying clothes. Bathroom was great and an excellent shower. We only stayed one night and the weather was terrible so unfortunately we aren't able to comment on the park's facilities! Good Wifi!

    Disliked:

These little cabins are noisy, as soon as the kids are up in the morning you hear every little noise! Car park a little way from cabin, I much prefer a layout where the car is right outside.

Local attractions

Several beaches are close by, including Angeiras beach opposite the site, Labruge beach two kilometres north and São Paio beach within three and a half kilometres in the same direction. The dunes of Mindelo are also worth their eight-kilometre trip for a flit around their ornithological reserve.

Take the bus from outside the site to reach Porto in about an hour, to mooch around its many attractions including the Palácio da Bolsa, the Fundação de Serralves and the historic Ribeira area, with its many bars dishing up local cuisine.

The city's most famed of course for its port wine (the clue is in the name), so wander around the plentiful port cellars too, to see how it's all made and to sample the many different and mighty tasty varieties.

If you now have a thirst for learning more about Portugal's wine, take a day trip to the Douro Valley to visit the vineyards there surrounded by their spectacular scenery.

Other destinations for day trips include the lively city of Braga and its 12th-century cathedral, and Guimarães, to take a cable car ride over the historic streets. Both cities are around 50 kilometres away.
