  • Peaceful Tuscany site next to the Sterpaia Coastal Park
  • A five-minute drive to Piombino ferries; half an hour to Bolgheri
  • Swimming pool and kids' pool on site; close to a railway station
Spend some time close to the Tuscany coast with a stay at Agricampeggio Vento Etrusco, just next to the Sterpaia Coastal Park and about five minutes’ drive from Piombino. This peaceful place is a handsome spot for a family holiday or a break with your other half, and makes a great base for various excursions as well as laidback beach days. Some of those excursions could be taken on two wheels, as there’s bike hire on site; there’s also a railway station about three kilometres away for times when you’d like to venture further afield (to Pisa, Florence or Grosseto, for example). If you’d rather stick closer to home, you may like to know that it’s just under two kilometres (through the nature reserve) to reach the nearest beach, a natural stretch of soft sand and dunes backed by oak trees. And if you’d rather stick even closer to home, then it’s likely you’ll be able to while away many happy hours on site, using the swimming pool (with a kids’ pool) or soaking up the views from a sun lounger while the kids play at the playground. You’ll be allowed to bring a barbecue along for cooking, and there are various handy amenities provided on site including wifi, a chemical disposal point and bathrooms with baby changing and accessible facilities.

Fully-serviced pitch

Liked: Large hardstanding pitch with power and water. Private shower room with toilet and plenty of hot water. Lovely, friendly, helpful staff/owners on site. Felt very secure. Lovely countryside. On an olive farm with its own vineyards. Good walking for the dog.

Disliked: Nothing to walk to other than a scruffy beach . No shade could be a problem in hotter months.

Local attractions

Coming to the coast for a bit of beach time? As well as the sands next to the site, you’ll have several other options, including Baratti beach (15 minutes’ drive), where you’ll also be able to seek out the ‘fairy hole’ named after a local legend. The ‘singing sands’ of Calaviolina beach (25 minutes) are also worth a visit, accessed only on foot or by bike along a 1.5-kilometre woodland path. You’ll be able to take a dip in the sea at either of these beaches, but if you fancy a bit more water-based activity, try out the madcap GeoMare WiBit inflatable water park (10 minutes) or head for the slides of Acqua Village Follonica (15 minutes). Back on dry land, you may like to take wanders around some of the area’s historic villages – both Suvereto (20 minutes) and Bolgheri (half an hour) are worth the trip – if visiting the latter, don't miss the drive along the five-kilometre avenue of cypress trees. For other history-tinged days out, visit the Baratti and Populonia Archaeological Park (15 minutes) or get down to Piombino (five minutes) for the ferry to Napoleon’s hideout on the island of Elba.
