General

  • Family-run site right by the sea
  • Eight kilometres from ancient Paestum
  • Restaurant, café, football pitch and pétanque court

Views, views and yet more views… you may want to stay at Campeggio La Foce dei Tramonti to soak up the scenery for some time. (And the ancientness: it's all only eight kilometres or so from there to the fab old temple ruins of Paestum.)

Set in the Salerno province and run by the Guerra family, Campeggio La Foce dei Tramonti is right by the sea and prettily placed between its waters and the delta of the Sele river, with first-rate views over the Gulf of Salerno.

The site has a restaurant dishing up regional recipes and stonebaked pizzas; a café for morning tea and coffee, and a small grocery shop selling essentials during high season. Sports tournaments, gym classes and a kids' club are among the many activities and entertainment events held in July and August.

Other facilities include a pétanque court, a five-a-side football pitch and a volleyball court.

Please note

Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

The site caters for families (immediate members) and couples only - bookings from all other forms of groups are not accepted.

Peace, quiet, location and the amazing Fernando who couldn't have been more helpful. Pizza in the camp restaurant prepared by Anna was wonderful and very reasonably priced.

    Disliked:

Noise from gun range but nothing serious.

Everyone on site made us welcome and involved at this site, food served as good if not better than local pizza or Italian restaurants, Fernando the site manager and maestro pizza man, pointed us to local places of interest such as markets and shops.
We where so taken with this site we seriously considered leaving our caravan here as a base for future holidays and exploring this region which is relatively untouched by the tourist industry.
We had according to Fernando the formula 1 pole position pitch, any further forward and we would have been in the Med with the local fishermen.
Fab sunrises and dreamy sunsets all enjoyed at no extra cost in deckchairs and umbrellas provided by manager.

    Disliked:

Was not well signposted signs are faded by sunlight, entrance to sight narrow not well illuminated but we did arrive late.
Main site entrance splits into three separate approaches to three campsites but there is signs to Campeggio La Foce dei Tramonte and reception office.
Free showers only after midday ( sun heated showers ) but you can pay to us electric showers.

Local attractions

The scenery here is spectacular, but the history around Campeggio La Foce dei Tramonti is rather fab too: it's near the ancient archaeological sites of Paestum, the remains of the major Greek city that mostly centre around its city walls, amphitheatre and three well-preserved temples over two and a half thousand years old. The tale of all is told at the Paestum National Archaeological Museum.

Salerno is also a main Campania region for the production of buffalo mozzarella, the white cheese made from the milk of the Italian water buffalo. Several cheesy tours are available in the area for those who want to investigate this (and the local wine) further.

For city days out, Salerno is about 25 minutes away and well connected to Positano and Capri (as well as to the Amalfi coast), and Pompei, Vesuvio and Naples are all within an hour's drive.

Swimming, snorkelling and other watersports are available close to the site in the Campania coastal waters.
