A gem of a site, with friendly owners and great size pitches17/08/2020

Me, my wife and my 14 year old daughter had an amazing stay at this little gem of a site. Super friendly owners who could not be more helpful. The site has everything you need for a relaxing break. We were only stopping for 4 nights but could have quite easily cancelled our next booking to stay longer.

The swimming pool was perfect, the bar was great, the pizza's fab, the pitches were huge and could easily have got 2 camper vans and awnings in them with space to spare but it was nice to just spread out in your own area.

Fresh bread and pastries delivered to site 6 days a week, local boulangerie and shop in walking distance along with other services we didn't need but knew were available if needed was most welcome.

We cannot wait to be able to get back next year with the rest of the family and spend even longer.

Just don't go here if you are expecting a Haven / Butlins / Centre Parcs type experience because it just a chillout, family friendly, laid back experience where they are not trying to suck the cash out of you at every opportunity.

In summary a very honest campsite, that is not over commercialised, big on getting the basics right and perfect for the majority of peoples needs.

Good location , convenient for poitiers. Friendly staff. Good facilities in pleasant surroundings. Plenty to do for kids etc. Nice sized pool. no charges for lots of the on site activities.Highly recommend as a few days stopover.

    Not dislikes more comments.
There isn't anything you can just stroll to out of the campsite, it's pretty much self contained.
Whilst the pool is great , better signage is required in the pool area. regarding use. i observed teenagers throwing balls around and hit a child. upon on inspection it's only mention is in a sentence on the gate on the way into the pool. Nor is the non use of balls in the area enforced by staff. ( who did observe it happening)

Lovely, peaceful, friendly little site run by an English family. Spacious pitches with sun and shade. It has a small bar and pool. We were doing a quick stopover on route to elsewhere so didn’t get chance to use them, but we’ll definitely be using the site again!

Wonderful wooded site with lots of room around the pitches. Fantastic for kids with badminton, boule, a pool to splash around in, fire pit, ping pong and airhockey so plenty to keep everyone entertained. Fellow campers were friendly and very respectful no loud music. It was great for the kids to have a bit of a sense of freedom and all the facilities were spotlessly clean. A great spot to stay over for a few days or even longer to explore the coast.

Local attractions

Wine and cognac, old old towns, and theme parks featuring the past and the future are what you might like to dive into first around Camping du Bois de St Hilaire, along with the many local marked paths for walking and biking.

A couple of other early stops should be the Poitou-Charentes capital of Poitiers for its medieval centre and nights in its many student-friendly pubs; and the old fortified town of Parthenay, also with a medieval centre as well as ancient town walls, a 13th-century gateway and medieval timber-framed houses. The old port city of La Rochelle is an hour and a half away on the west coast.

The theme park of Puy du Fou will let littlies feel they're in the past at its medieval town, Viking fortress and replica amphitheatre; to feel what the future might be like, take them to Futuroscope, about 30 kilometres from base.
