The hosts were very friendly and helpful. The pool and games area were great and the site itself was well laid out with great pitches and lots of greenery. Pitches were flat and offered a good degree of privacy. There was plenty of hot water with good pressure in the showers and the toilet and wash facilities were adequate in number and kept clean. We were there for 13 nights and we never had to wait for an available shower. There are also plenty of glamping options at the site.

    Disliked:

It would be great if the wash areas had some hand soap and towels / drier. The nearby grain drier was sometimes a bit noisy depending on the wind direction.

    Beautiful, comfortable yurt
Quiet, private pitch set next to a wooded area
    Hot, clean showers
Electric sockets in kitchen area and in washrooms to charge phones or power hairdryer etc.
Very tasty pizzas on Thursday and Saturdays
Delicious fresh bread and croissants from bread van most mornings
Tennis, basketball, table tennis and mini golf activities
    Close to many tourist attractions.

    Disliked:

Nothing to dislike this is a lovely site in a beautiful setting.
One recommendation would be to invest in a couple of composting loos for the furthest glampers.

Absolutely everything! 3 night stay was brilliant. The location was nice and central, but quiet. The pitches were huge and naturally divided by ferns and trees, the toilet/shower block was nice and clean, pool was fab and the owners were friendly. We enjoyed the stonebaked pizza, the bar was not extortionate and the minigolf was a fun little addition. One of the BEST sites we have ever been to.

    Disliked:

Having to leave - we had already planned to move on to another site on our little tour of France and were left very disappointed at the next sites we visited. Nothing compared!

This is a really well run campsite. Great facilities, pleaseant surroundings, the owners are pleasant and friendly, and the young lady working in reception and at the bar was extremely charming!

The showers and toilet facilities were well maintained and clean, and the owner seemed to have a mop and bucket from early morning to the evening. The pitches are spacious, and aside from the odd root, level and comfortable for ttents. We were able to choose our own, which meant that we could predict the path of the sun and choose the extent of shade which suited us. There's also an appropriate amount of shrub and young trees around the pitches to provide some screening and privacy without feeling enclosed.

The woodland situation means that the site has a lot of wildlife, lizards scurry around, an if you are a bird spotter, there is much to see and hear. I heard a Nightjar, several owls hooted overnight, and the previous week a black woodpecker had been seen. Other reviews refer to the low level noise from the local grain processing plant. I must say that I couldn't hear it, but you do get the noise of lorries arriving on the narrow lane to deliver grain from 0500. I know this because I was already awake, listening to the silence and the nocturnal birds!

My sons really enjoyed the pool and were in it almost constantly! Their bar has a few beers on tap, bottles of cider, and wine. They may have spirits too, but I didn't sample them. There are themed food nights, with pizza on Saturdays. I'm sorry to say that I didn't stay on a Saturday, but we had chips one night when we arrived after 8pm and they were lovely. Locals also stop by for a drink and a chat.

Although we only stayed two nights, as we were en route to Spain, but there fellow campers who were staying for the full two weeks. There wasn't enough to keep me occupied for that long, but if you want a relaxing, quiet holiday with a pool I don't see why not.

I'm already considering staying again next year.

Local attractions

Wine and cognac, old old towns, and theme parks featuring the past and the future are what you might like to dive into first around Camping du Bois de St Hilaire, along with the many local marked paths for walking and biking.

A couple of other early stops should be the Poitou-Charentes capital of Poitiers for its medieval centre and nights in its many student-friendly pubs; and the old fortified town of Parthenay, also with a medieval centre as well as ancient town walls, a 13th-century gateway and medieval timber-framed houses. The old port city of La Rochelle is an hour and a half away on the west coast.

The theme park of Puy du Fou will let littlies feel they're in the past at its medieval town, Viking fortress and replica amphitheatre; to feel what the future might be like, take them to Futuroscope about 30 kilometres from base.
