If you’re camping in Brittany, come prepared for coast. If you’re camping in Finistère, come prepared for coast beaucoup: this department of Bretagne is one of the most coastal in all of France, with around 1,250 kilometres of rocky headland and beaches taking in the sands around Roscoff, the thermal baths and thalassotherapy of seaside resort Benodet, the Glénan and Molène archipelagos, the fine surf and scenery of Baie de Trespasses with the Pointe du Raz and Pointe du Van – and the massive marine park of Oceanopolis just outside Brest. It’s also the most westerly department in Brittany and has the most westerly points in France: if Brittany is Cornwall, we declaim, then Finistère is Land’s End…
Come additionally prepared for drinks and medieval quirks in the ancient cider region of Cornouaille and its capital Quimper (be sure and dress up in trad Breton costume on the last day of the annual Festival de Cornouaille), walk the cobbled streets of Pont-Croix, or cruise around the Glénan archipelago from Bénodet… some of the Brest things to see and do in Brittany are around Finistère campsites…
