If you're looking for a place to camp near Bogotá to escape the daily grind, breathe fresh air, and spend a few days surrounded by nature, Camping San Francisco is an excellent option. This site is located in Guatavita, Cundinamarca, approximately 50 km north of Bogotá, which means driving there should take less than an hour and a half under normal conditions. It's also possible to arrive by public transport and complete the final leg by hiking along a trail.
Being within easy reach of the capital makes this a great spot for weekend getaways, romantic escapes, trips with friends or just some time out in the open air without too much travelling. Make the journey here and you'll be rewarded with a peaceful setting, mountain scenery and plenty of space to relax.
Site facilities include a play area, a mini football field and other recreational facilities such as a volleyball net and 'tejo' courts. You can also use the hot showers at no extra cost, rent grills for your outdoor cooking and buy firewood for a campfire evening. The site has views of the Tominé Reservoir, the surrounding mountains and Montecillo Hill, a good hiking location.
