General

  • At the edge of the wooded Ardennes
  • Play area and resident donkeys
  • On-site pond for fishing

Nature spotters are rather fond of the area around Camping Le Relais. As are hikers, mountain bikers and climbing, for it's in the Wallon region of Luxembourg and at the edge of the wooded Ardennes. (As you might expect, this is in a greatly green part of the world.)

The site is also just the spot for families with young kids as it has a well-equipped play area, resident donkeys and a one-hectare pond for fishing, basking on its pier or kayaking. There's also a barbecue area, tennis courts, volleyball, basketball, football and a pétanque court. Pitches are large and set over an area of 12 hectares.

For eats, Camping Le Relais has a restaurant near the site entrance and is close to the town of Marche-en-Famenne. Bread and pastries can be ordered from reception for the next day.

Large pitch, quiet site 22/07/2016

The site was virtually empty so we had a huge pitch. I am not sure what it would be like on busy days. The lad who met us was lovely and showed us where everything was. 2 cockerels and a turkey were wandering about which was great. The motorhome pitches were separate from the rest of the campsite so it was a little walk to the showers. 3 toilets and 2 showers for each. No queue. The reception block sold coffees and beers.
Very reasonably priced and I would recommend it. We only stayed one night on the way to the ferry.

    Disliked:

The road noise went on all night from the N4. You have to pay €1.50 for a rubbish bag , fill it up and hand it in.

Pretty surroundings, cheap pitch fees 06/06/2016

The pitches were a very generous size, although I could imagine if the site was busier then pitches would be half the size.

The facilities were clean and the location was convenient, close to Marche en Famenne for shopping.

Quiet site - on the motorhome side - most people seemed to use the site as an overnight stop. We had the site to ourselves for 3 days without any other visitors.

The bread ordering service is a good idea too. And the pitch prices are really low.

    Disliked:

Toilets and showers were the other side of the site - next to the tourers and statics. Not great when you have a child and have to walk over there, especially at night when the path wasn't lit too well.

Nothing was open except toilets and showers. We were only pre-warned the restaurant wouldn't be open - but the play area on the motorhome fields was closed, the play area up by the statics needed a lot of TLC, it was mostly broken. It seems most of the site is geared to open during the Belgian holidays.

The lake for swimming - it didn't look suitable to paddling or swimming. Maybe to use a dinghy. It wasn't great. Mainly men fishing were sat around it.

The on site "shop" in reception, was very expensive compared to Carrefour in Marche.

Wouldn't stay for a full week again bit would consider using the site for an overnight stop.

Local attractions

Camping Le Relais is just at the wooded Ardennes area in the Wallon region of Luxembourg, a pretty perfect place for hiking, cycling, mountain biking and climbing. It's a short drive from Wallonia's capital Namur, the medieval city of Liège and the small provincial capital of Arlon.

The town centre of Marche-en-Famenne is a short walk from the site and well worth a look for its shops, restaurants and cafés as well as its St Remacle Church, Carmes convent and several museums including the lace museum and the Famenne museum, sketching the history and culture of the area.

Also take a trip to the nearby Durbuy to see the world's biggest topiary park, covering over 30,000 square feet, and a viewpoint over the countryside from the top of the cliff close by. The Ourthe river and its valley are a short drive away.
